So my college instructor is selling a project he funded for the school last year because he needs funds to build a junkyard 401 into a 500 hp drag motor for his gremlin. I figured I'd post this here because if anybody has a need for a twin turbo lsX S10 it would be goons. http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-Twin-turbo-LS-V8-engine-1997-Chevrolet-S-10-Pickup-Truck-W0QQAdIdZ542325427

No joke, I had a friend that bought a motorcycle from an ad like that. The dude was asking what he had paid when the bike was new six years prior, and my buddy stepped right up against my protestations and was like "Yes, take my money" right in front of the dude's wife. My friend isn't the best with his money. I think he rode the bike less than five times.

I have no use for a winter beater, but given that they can sell for less than this (KBB is actually 2.5, not that it matters), it'd be fun to consider trashing an 5MT XType around like you don't give a drat. I used to work on those and they are just a really dolled up ford contour. I did not see a lot of manuals. My concern would be the computers, as there are maybey 6? Of them and if one goes out you've basicly totaled it. I have would check the oil really well as jag owners tend to skip the maintenance and just trade it in.

Those things caught a lot of poo poo for being badge engineered but they really are not bad cars at all. Overpriced, when new, for sure. Frankly, if a Camry can be an ES300 than the Mondeo can be a Jag. At $5k I cannot think of a better AWD car. [I just know someone is going to post something like a clapped out All-Trac in response]

I'm pretty sure it was bad for reasons that are entirely unrelated to it being a Ford and almost 100% related to it being a Jaguar. Why did JLR go bankrupt? Because their cars were too reliable? $5K AWD? An old Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute exists, and while not a particularly "good" car is almost guaranteed to drive further and more often without the need for a tow truck than any Jaguar.

Its popular with 80 series Landcruisers (91-97) as well since when the fender flares inevitably get ripped off it leaves holes down the side of the truck that go through to inner layers. Usually you pull the flares off, mask where they used to be, and fill it in with bed liner.

I've seen this before, but I always wondered just how durable that stuff is, and how long it holds up for. Is it really more permanent than a proper paint job with clearcoat?

Does it hold up to branches and keys attacking it relentlessly? Absolutely. Can you touch it up with a rattle can. Yes.

I've seen it done on motorcycles too, which makes good sense because it's easy to scuff up the plastic on a bike. Once you've hosed up the factory paint a bit, you just hit it with the bed liner and now it looks ok and will hold up better.

There was a series of TV ads too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Sblq-CwzEY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn8N6H4ZyJY I have to give Ford the benefit of the doubt here, not having driven either cars. I really doubt the Mercedes of that era were really anything to write home about either. IIRC European cars of that era were much more sparsely equipped and comparatively much higher priced in real terms (before the advent of $299/month lease deals), and so their market share was much smaller. I can believe that the Ford was probably just as good. I guess I'm just a skeptic when it comes to Euro car marketing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GjFZ_3_si4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FutjQexOgA
