It's only impractical in how long it is. Everything else about that is awesomely practical. Look at all that cargo space!

Now for a bonus. That second pic has a Nissan in it that came out to our first Cars & Coffee meet last year. The owner bought it new (it's a 94 Maxima I think) and has dumped $70,000 into it. He had a book with receipts to prove it. It's a manual swap, turboed and has scissor hinges on all four doors.

Does that at least count the original purchase price?

I'd probably go $5-5.5k on it just because it looks to be in great shape and they're fun cars from all accounts (I'd never fit in one), but it's still an 80s car even if it's a cool 80s car

There was one near me at a Chrysler dealership few years ago, maybe 2011 or, sitting at $16k or so, never titled, under 30 miles on the odometer, it just kept ticking down in price. I wonder if it's still sitting there sadly.

A buddy of mine had a NA Z32 for a long time, he didn't like it much but didn't say why. I think it was just old and tired.

This isn't gold, but raises a used-car-buying theory question. What do you think one should pay for non-collector cars that have essentially zero mileage but are really old? I'm not seriously considering buying this one, but I have a soft spot in my heart for Sportcrosses and will use it as an example:

This Sportcross stickered for roughly 33k in 2002, or about 43k in 2014 dollars, making this one essentially half price a dozen years later. On one hand, the price seems reasonable for a like-new car. On the other hand, it's not really a competitive vehicle anymore - 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, 18 or 19 combined MPG.

There are other interesting ones out there. Sorting Autotrader and eBay by mileage is really interesting.

Gooberpeas once pointed out to me that Miata prices are more determined by chronological age than mileage, and I found that to be true when I went shopping. I wonder if it applies to most cars.

Yeah, "runs and drives" but doesn't need $1K+ worth of work to make it actually roadworthy around here is rare. This is coming from somewhere that does not require any inspections.

Inspections and emissions testing here, I wouldn't risk buying a car under about $4k as being turnkey ready to go without going over it bumper to bumper, and even then I'd probably want to lowball it, likely due to rust.

I don't remember the last time I used my air conditioning other than to make sure it still worked. I live in PA so rust is my major concern. If it's visible it's probably worse than it looks. Rules out just about any Subaru and older Honda :(
