I accidentally posted this to the main AI page...hopefully someone can nuke it.

This thing is so wonky-bad that I kind of like it. We're in the beginnings of buying a beach house, and I think this would be rad to throw in a garage down there.

That MR2 is way too rough cosmetically. It's all original to a fault, including broken trim pieces. It's a 3k car at most and the woman selling it thinks she's already underselling it.

I think you're right on the money at ~$3k (Probably closer to $2500). Looks like it needs a respray to correct all the paint issues, but the body is nice from what the pictures show. Tint sucks, wheels aren't tremendously desirable. Has the oem hvac/radio which is cool.

I paid $1995 for mine, and it's in a lot better shape cosmetically, but the PO was kind of aloof and farmed all maintenance out to shade-tree garages that 'fixed' a lot of things that needed to be reconditioned mechanically when I got it.

So what's up with people doing cool projects like this but (imho) missing the mark on the wheels? I get that it's really the Charger underneath there but man, those wheels should be the original ones on it.
Oh well I'm always pointing out how getting rid of the stock (or even period-correct) wheels when people resto-mod cars seems so cliche and worse for aesthetics anyway so of course I'd complain about it here.
Rad otherwise though!

I think just because it was effectively a well-executed body swap. Unless they made larger repro's of the original wheels, there is no way they'd fit over the brakes (or even have the same bolt pattern or offset?).

Most people don't I'd imagine, but I'm one of those guys that feels modern wheels really throw the style of old cars off is all. Like was pointed out it's really a body swap so it's still that Charger underneath there, so really the wheels are stock, it's the body and interior that are the accessories.

Could always do what this guy did, and have custom wheels made that matched the originals but were wider and larger diameter.

The RWD Volvos occasionally have fatal transmission problems (because they're all old and neglected) but they've got nothing on some of the cars they made from 1999 on. The T6 models with GM transmissions were basically guaranteed to fail and the 5-speed auto they used behind their 5-cylinder motors from 2001 forward had some serious teething troubles. Those two are almost certainly what Fo3 heard/read about but somehow they got mixed up on the timeframe.

I'm in love with that Benz wagon. :swoon:

From what I remember from the Swedespeed forums when I had my S60R, the automatic or, "Geartronic" ones were so fragile they torque-limited them in at least the first couple of gears.

No I don't think its any kind of long-lost gem or a factory car. Its obviously some kind of kit or hand-made custom.
Its just bugging me because its clearly a hard top and no kits I can find ever sold hard tops. The front suspension is too old to be a kit either. It looks like '50s truck. Which again, I don't think they did kit cars for those either. The clutch-based fan, casually hanging out (rusted off?) in the grill is clearly a much newer engine component too.

Pretty positive it's not a hard top and just has its carriage soft top up. Probably a strong reason why it has industrial grade trucking tarp over the top of it (to mitigate water ingress through the numerous hols in the canvas).
