I accidentally posted this to the main AI page...hopefully someone can nuke it. This thing is so wonky-bad that I kind of like it. We're in the beginnings of buying a beach house, and I think this would be rad to throw in a garage down there.

KakerMix posted:That MR2 is way too rough cosmetically. It's all original to a fault, including broken trim pieces. It's a 3k car at most and the woman selling it thinks she's already underselling it. I think you're right on the money at ~$3k (Probably closer to $2500). Looks like it needs a respray to correct all the paint issues, but the body is nice from what the pictures show. Tint sucks, wheels aren't tremendously desirable. Has the oem hvac/radio which is cool. I paid $1995 for mine, and it's in a lot better shape cosmetically, but the PO was kind of aloof and farmed all maintenance out to shade-tree garages that 'fixed' a lot of things that needed to be reconditioned mechanically when I got it.

KakerMix posted:So what's up with people doing cool projects like this but (imho) missing the mark on the wheels? I get that it's really the Charger underneath there but man, those wheels should be the original ones on it. I think just because it was effectively a well-executed body swap. Unless they made larger repro's of the original wheels, there is no way they'd fit over the brakes (or even have the same bolt pattern or offset?).

KakerMix posted:Most people don't I'd imagine, but I'm one of those guys that feels modern wheels really throw the style of old cars off is all. Like was pointed out it's really a body swap so it's still that Charger underneath there, so really the wheels are stock, it's the body and interior that are the accessories. Could always do what this guy did, and have custom wheels made that matched the originals but were wider and larger diameter. http://www.transamflorida.com/516%2081%20trans%20am%20455.htm

zundfolge posted:The RWD Volvos occasionally have fatal transmission problems (because they're all old and neglected) but they've got nothing on some of the cars they made from 1999 on. The T6 models with GM transmissions were basically guaranteed to fail and the 5-speed auto they used behind their 5-cylinder motors from 2001 forward had some serious teething troubles. Those two are almost certainly what Fo3 heard/read about but somehow they got mixed up on the timeframe. From what I remember from the Swedespeed forums when I had my S60R, the automatic or, "Geartronic" ones were so fragile they torque-limited them in at least the first couple of gears.
