I had lots of people claiming they had cash in hand. Well I told people to meet me in a parking lot beside a police station. The police station is right there but its blocked from view of the road by the other building. Oh man what a great car buying experience for that kid. “Great deal on car, got paid 100 bucks to watch a fight, a++ would buy again”

Facebook is only good at showing you what it thinks you want to see. If you want to lazily scroll through bad memes and pictures of your friends doing nothing it’s great at that, which is what most people want. Trying to find anything specific is usually impossible. This experience is consistent across all parts of using it, from shitposting to marketplace. I hate it so much and I wish that it wasn’t the de facto communication tool for most of my friends.

How in the hell are Fiero kits still around? How many donor cars can there be at this point? Like, it kind of made sense when a clean Fiero was easy to come by and cheap, but at this point most of them are rusty basket cases if they are still driving. The thought of tearing into one of those is nauseating.

Doesn’t Facebook restrict the price range you can set for vehicles? I found somebody selling a pretty nicely done GC8 Impreza L wagon track car with a built EJ255 and 6 speed. He said he couldn’t list for his (in my mind, fair) asking price of 11,000 because Facebook wouldn’t accept that value, so he had to list it for 1100 and put the real price in the ad text. On the other hand, I see people post stuff for 123,450 dollars all the time. Also, the fact that everything defaults to automatic if you don’t select a transmission type, and search sucks, really makes me hate FB market place. But it gets a ton of eyes so people use it.

Octopus Magic posted:Was there any "retro styled" american cars that were actually considered "good"? The SSR, HHR, Prowler, Thunderbird, PT Cruiser, they all sucked in numerous ways. The PT cruiser is the butt of many a joke but it was a huge sales success and AFAIK fairly reliable and cheap to maintain for what it was. I personally am not a huge fan of retro styling but the Charger is great at being what it is, a big silly muscle car that looks good. The Mustang and Camaro are well regarded of course but IMO they look so much better now that they have gotten away from retro styling a bit. I was interested in a used fifth gen Camaro as a platform for a track toy but looking at the pre-facelift ones made my stomach churn. God they’re awful. i own every Bionicle fucked around with this message at 17:50 on Aug 26, 2020 |

The oil, block, and exhaust system all should get to full temperature to burn everything off the catalytic converter and evaporate condensation and unburnt fuel. Cats these days are much better at heating up quickly, but oil dilution from unburnt fuel is still an issue if the car never gets all the way up to temp.

Coredump posted:Larry I can't agree with your choice of paint job for an auto NB1. It might be a manual, Facebook market place defaults to auto if you forget to select what the transmission is when you post it. Reminder: Facebook market place is objectively terrible and the only reason it has taken over Craigslist is because it force-shows listings to people who are otherwise sharing conspiracies or life hack videos. The car looks like it is in very good shape besides the flames and Original Character Do Not Steal on the hood, what a shame.

Lightbulb Out posted:I've selected manual and for some reason it has still showed up as automatic when I have sold on FB before. Yeah my favorite is the arbitrary pricing restrictions. Rare WRX color and option combo in nice shape with low miles? No, you can’t list it for 8,000, that’s too much, it’s just an old Impreza. Guess you’ll have to list it for 1,234 and put the real price in the description. And that makes people spend more time looking at listings so that probably skews facebook’s metrics and they think it’s good. I have no idea why they do it, there’s no conceivable way it could reduce scamming. And yeah Craigslist’s fee was probably a way to reduce scamming and has definitely wiped out a ton of listings.
