For some reason I find pretty much any car, no matter how poo poo it is, to be attractive when it's basically a time capsule and looks mint like that car.

I have this car in my "saved ads" just because I like to look at it once in a while and think about buying it. Of course I always come to the conclusion that for over $3k (lol) it's an hilariously bad idea to by a car that is rust prone and very hard to get parts for. But there is a certain coolness to 70's / 80's Hondas. I really like the front.

Aleks_r posted:This italian heart breaker is what i drive every day. I had a B5 Passat Variant 1.8T before i bought this one, and although i thought it was cool as hell it was getting a bit long in the tooth (160.000 miles on the odometer), and i was tired of changing the oil and filter every 5000 miles. There are rebuild kits for the M32, places that rebuild it, and cheaper refurbed gearboxes to be had. I've got a MiTo with the very same M32 gearbox. No problems so far, and I'm pretty confident that I can replace the bearings myself for a couple of hundred bucks if the dreaded telltale signs of whine / vibration / in 6th gear ever occur. A top tip is to replace the gearbox oil at decent intervals and use what the specialists recommend (Fuchs Titan Sintofluid if I remember correctly). First thing I did when I bought the car was to replace the engine and gearbox fluid as I don't trust dealers / workshops to know enough about it (even if it's a pretty Fiat Punto with many shared parts). I enjoy my little 155hp monster. It looks great and always stands out (I think I've seen 3 other MiTos in my town of 300k people). People seem to enjoy looking at it as well. Sadly it isn't really what I'm looking for in a car long term. It's great for driving around town, but is tiring as hell when driving at motorway speeds. I can't decide whether to keep it until we know how reliable the Giulias will be, or to get something bigger in between. I wish they'd release a 6 cylinder non QV one. Edit: Also, I don't know where you are located at (Looks like northern Europe?), but ebay.de/co.uk has good prices on Alfa Parts. Edit: VVV Yeah who am I kidding. The only thing that I dislike about it is that it's either all the way to QV for a 6 cylinder, or it's 4 cylinder turbos. I'd love a 350hp V6 in a non QV spec (and cost). Aleks_r posted:Yes i am aware of that. However, none of the garages i spoke to did rebuilds anymore. Something about the pre-tensioning of the bearings that was very hard to get right, and it would be just as bad again within half a year they said. I trawled the internet for local specialist shops that would rebuild manual gearboxes, but all were specialized in automatic gearboxes only. I then tried to contact a used parts dealer in the UK (where there are plenty more 159s than in Norway, where i am situated) but they never really responded. As you probably can understand, removing the gearbox and having it shipped internationally was not really an option since i needed the car to get to and from work (i live in the boons). So I finally had to bite the bullet and accepted an offer from a small garage that specializes in italian cars. Good thing i did too, because they found that the thrust bearing/slave cylinder needed to be replaced as well. I would have put money on that it was Norwegian scenery in the picture If spares / fluid prices are as over inflated in Norway as they are in Sweden I recommend Opie Oils for getting the fluids. Cheap and nice delivery (at least to Sweden). Interesting about the pre-tensioning on the bearings, I'll have to look into it some more. Worst case I'll get a gearbox from Germany and do it myself as fortunately I'm not dependent on the car. Fingers crossed it I'll be spared. Hopefully your new gearbox has the redesigned endplate that allows more oil to reach the 6 gear bearing. Apparently there is no problem with the M32 gearbox according to the manufacturers, yet it was redesigned it to fix the problem.... I'll be changing my oil yearly as well. It's a cheap insurance.

What's wrong with getting an LS? On par with the Germans in terms of luxury and comfort, but without poo poo breaking all the time. I'd take it over a Jeep every day. I think comfort is very underrated. Nothing beats getting out of a car after hours of driving without feeling tired. Meanwhile in my little Alfa, I get "tired" after driving for 40min on the motorway. In a newer V70 I could drive for 8 hours (with a quick bathroom stop) straight, and arrive without feeling more tired than if I'd flown there. I kinda want to get a 3GS 450H for longer distance driving. VVV: Yeah, true I kinda omitted to think about the miles. Funnily enough (I had to check), there isn't a single LS of around that year, with similar miles that you can get for less than $20-25k in Sweden. Tremek posted:That's ... Exactly what MrOnBicycle is arguing against, or at the very least saying isn't worthy of concern. What I'm saying is that I can't understand why I keep hearing from Americans that they need "high" power to merge safely. I drove a 136hp Volvo V70 Diesel on the German Autobahn and had absolutely no problem at all going on ramps, merging and the cruising at 160-180km/h depending on the road surface. 0-100 takes 10 seconds. So what I really am wondering is: Is it poor construction of on ramps, bad drivers or some cultural thing?

I would be interested to hear more about how well it holds up with whatever your normal wash routine ends up looking like. I know meatpimp has done some good stuff DIY with his older SUV and I have considered the same for my Lexus but I think I would need to have a professional (read: expensive) apply a good coating to the M3. I am not ready to drop that many dollars for that car yet. Handwash and wax will suffice for now. To be honest, you don't have to get the $1k+ packages to get the goodness of coatings. 95% of the price is the correction of the paint (that also does 95% of the "wow" from how coatings look). On a daily driver that is bound to get brushed up against, leaned on, get small dings etc you could just slap on something like CQuartz UK 3.0 that will last years if properly maintained, but won't be a nightmare to remove. It kinda depends on what you want to get out of the coating. If it's just the easy cleaning, and you don't care about some swirls here and there, you could slap a coating on there and enjoy it.

It just becomes a void in the wheel house that breaks up the design in many cars in such an odd way. Even worse in pictures. A dark gun metal or grey or something will beat any black rim IMO. I think black rims are one of the worst modifying trends.

How do you guys find the noise levels from the PS4's? They are my top choice for when I need new tires. Haven't had a chance to try the Kumho OEM summer tires that came with my new car yet, but if they are horrid I'm thinking PS4's. Might be overkill for a car that will never see track/spirited driving/speeds above 180 km/h... but still, it's nice to know you have good and safe tires.
