Sorry if this is a repeat, but I have no previous experience with RC stuff. I want a onroad (maybe 4x4?) electric car thats 1:8 (unless you talk me into another size.) This will be for having fun with and teaching myself. what companies/models would you suggest?

Not averse to a light truck chassis that cam go over grass/mild dirt, but not looking for a rock crawler. Id like a LITTLE ground clearance.

If you want to start with basic stuff to learn RC, go with 1/10th scale. 1/8th will be mega expensive to deal with for beginner stuff

Okay, then, 1:10. Whats a good kit with upgrade paths/lots of support and isnt a pos?

Is there any good writeup/whatever that will tell me exactly everything I am going to need to buy to build one of these things, or is literally everything included in these 'kits?' Sorry, I;m a retard, but gotta start somewhere.

Most kits are the body & chassis of the car, a cheap motor, and maybe a speed controller. You will need some simple tools (e.g. a screwdriver), a radio set (transmitter, receiver, steering servo), a speed controller if you didn't get one in the kit, paint for the bodyshell, battery pack and charger for the car, batteries for the transmitter. Most shops will do you a combo bundle with a kit so you get everything you need bar some AA-size cells for the transmitter and the paint.

A reason I recommended Tamiya is that their kits are really easy to build and generally good quality.

Edit: Do you have an approximate budget?

Let's say $500 I want to get something nice, y'know

Forgot to mention, I want no RTR. half the point of this is me building it is something to do. So Ill have to buy tools/remotes/whatever. I mean 500s not a hard limit, I can go higher if theres something real cool. Keep in mind, while mechanically inclined, I know 0 about RC stuff and have no idea what gidgets make these run.

Is there any primer online for people that know nothing and want to get into this? I have no idea what lexan paint or scissors or why Id want a JIS screwdriver, and I dont think this thread needs me posting hundreds of dumb questions.

Went and lost my mind and bought this. Tamiya TT01E. Guess I'll play with it until I get bored and the upgrade bug bites. I'm a bit confused as to what size/type bodies I can use, and the relation of motor size and ESCs, and a bunch of other stuff, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Planning on getting into drifting it because that seems more entertaining than having a rocketship, so I'm sure I'll end up fiddling nonstop.

EDIT: Hope this has the JIS drivers I'll need.

Well, just got this TT01E in the mail, and jeez, thing is fun to toy with. Guess I'll enjoy it until I break/wear something out. Actually who am I kidding, I am going to browse for parts, I can already tell I'm not happy with the poo poo rates of the front shocks, and and and....

edit: Oh god looking at towerhobbies for less sticky tires and suspension parts has me crosseyed; need to read more so I have a clue before just tossing money out on parts that won't be what I want/not even compatible.

So, I think I've figured everything out barring the pinion/motor and spur(unsure if right term, or if I'm looking for differential here?) gears pitch. Anyone have a guide or something about what pitches/toothcounts are usable in a tt01e?
Taking the drat thing apart and reassembling pretty much cleared everything else up.

This is a good start, but I have no idea where to purchase compatible gears. I think a 18T/58T would do mw fine

So, I'm buying upgrades from rcmart.com I think. Still can't suss out what gears I need, I know stock is 19t pinion, 61t spur, but I don't know if they're 48 or 64 pitch in a TT01E. Any idea?Aiming for a 18/65 or so for a lot of low torque, high speed means little to me. I am getting a 10.5 or 8.5t motor, though, how much will that affect all this?

So, I figure I should take advantage with ebay/Craigslist and get poor suckers old gear for a pittance. After playing with this bone stock tt01e, I went and bought these, which I'm pretty sure I stole (specially the Subie, since he's replacing the broken gears, giving me the lipo, and switching all the connectors out to Tamiya standards (which I use.) The Escort guy is switching connectors too. All for free on top of my bid. ANYWAY, I bought:

and

Took some back and forthing through best offer, but did I steal these like I think I did?

I found a ABC 190 or 200mm clear body I want (1990 Z32 300ZX), but have no paint skills. Who here was an awesome painter and did it for money? How much would that cost me?

Seems like a fair enough deal on the TT01.

As far as the body, if you only want a single color (which for that awesome body would look really nice) its really not that hard at all. The most time consuming part is more the prep and cutting, especially if only doing one color. I just picked up an ABC Hobby 1993 Toyota MR2 body and it seems their plastic or whatever material they use is different than the HPI or Tamiya bodies I've seen. It is much thicker comparatively but an xacto worked fine cutting through it.

Honestly I'd rather pay for someone else to do the artistry. Kushgroove, are you accepting commissions?

How hard would it be to raise the ride hight of these tt01s? What would it require? And what chassis does that Escort look like to y'all?

Also, being an idiot, I assumed less turns in a motor made it more powerful. Am I wrong here?

No PMs, in US bit willing to pay shipping. And I'd want more than one body too since shipping will suck, best to do it all at once.

rcmart maybe, or race and drift japan, best upgrades would be front one way, rear spool, and a aluminum driveshaft, and high angle CVDs.

If you see the Yeah Racing Aluminum Conversion Kit for the tt01 please do yer-self a big favour and DON'T buy it.

What why, I was planning on it. What else replaces drive.ine/suspension plastuc from metal

Edit: Just about done....

I want a high (30+mph buggy/truck, even faster's better.) that has at least 3 inched ground clearnce [flexible, no less than 2 thoughz)

Since I'm letting others eat depreviation and buy from ebay, I tend to get previous gen stuff but I'm an amatuer basher, zi picked this hobby up after I quit shooting heroin, guess which is cheaper, more fun, MY GIRLFRIEND loves it...

Stick with plastic parts, it is cheaper, and it doesn't take long to replace an upright or knuckle or even an arm.

This makes 100% perfect sense and I didn't even think about it. Better to snap an axle than a transmission type thing, as a bad analogy. Thanks.

Who lost his mind? I did. I'm now addicted. I have 2 TB02s, one using a 550 motor and the all ENTIRELY aluminum, and like 5 TT01 variants, with oh my god so many wheels and batteries and and.

Fun as poo poo. So, time to move on, I just won:

Some nitro stuff.

And now am going to obtain a Traxxas XO1 soon, along with some form of ~30cc 1/5 vehicle. leaning Losi but idk the Chimera looks p cool. Of course I'm going to lose my loving head and buy a supercharger and bullet nitrous kit for whatever 1/5 I end up with, so I'm jut loving crazy I guess.

This is what happens when you're a 15 year heroin junkie who has an epiphany and just quits, not because of money or family or anything, and still has the good job and money and poo poo to just dive in to everything the hole in my arm made my miss. Sweet as hell. I'll get a gopro mounted on the XO1 when I do a 100+mph run

Also looking to get a good rock crawler (AX10 or so) and put some of those mattrack-like track on it. I could even use a Tamiya hi-lift and put a front axle in the rear to have rear steer. (there's a FOrd F350 hilift with a working plow on ebay I'm eyefucking right now.....)

Well there's some nitro traxxas thing tomorrow coming and then theres some boring old nitro losi on wednesday (oh and i forgot i had a nitro rs4 too sitting here, which I dilike) so let me get them all together in some sort of cash-burning pile with the onroads. I have a few light kits, one on a old m3 in neon orange and one on a subablue sti wagon. also a metallic purple 70 charger and oh god i've ended up with like ten chassis, 2-3 bodies per chassiss, and then of course 2 or 3 sets of wheels per body.

I'm going to have to dedicate a new room to this poo poo. At least we're expanding the house (and I'm getting a 2 post lift for my now >600hp 300zx (did I mention quitting heroin is the best poo poo ever, you can still waste the money just you have poo poo to show for it))
Did I mention I also went off the deep end in another way and am recieving a 4 WATT (4000mW) blue laser with a manual focus tomorrow too? That should make for some cool pictures, too. How can I mount that and a gopro on a Traxxas XO-1....

Life's been busy, but these RC things are amazing. I promise this weekend I'll make a huge pile of my RC stuff and get a pic for y'all. Haven't bought anything new, but still eyeing a XO-1. The goddamn starter motor for my Losi managed to back all three screws out and pop itsself off, and jesus christ it's a whore to remount aligned right, I may have to just take the engine out of the chassis to remount it when I get the hardware kit I ordered in. Annoying little breaky poo poo, why are you so fun.

Anyway, so, what would you all suggest for a 4wd onroad nitro car, hmmmm?
