Tubelord have announced they're breaking up, after one last show. Almost everyone hated their 2nd album but their first and the EPs are some of the best math-rock albums ever made. I chose to go and see another band instead of them earlier in the year, now they're another of my favourite bands I'll never get to see live :(

They're still playing 2 more shows before they go, I'm looking hard at going to Kingston just for the evening so I can see them before they're gone. As a second album Romance really grew on me the more I listened to it, now I actually like it almost as much as their first, albeit in a completely different way.

In good news though This Town Needs Guns new album is out so soon, I'm not sold on their new singer yet but I'm still massively looking forwards to it. The bits they've played at their shows have been pretty drat good.

Colour are pretty much pinnacle math pop so you have good taste.

Try listening to some This Town Needs Gunshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhPljk5EZ0Q who are pretty drat good and happen to have a new album just out. Pretty much anything on their Animals album is good, especially Chinchilla.
You might also like Tubelord who have sadly just broken up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWgPtPy7IYE.

Some other good bands you might like are:

Invalids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2wcZsxM-d0
Look Mexico https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bgLGtlrBaA
Bear Cavalry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npuxHHE2sWA
Lions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEBBXPkerqM
Pela https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6HHvk4zElc , who are also sadly de-funked but went on to form
We Are Augustines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDVo57p8EnI

If you like any of these I can probably think up a few more recommendations.

I'm absolutely gutted I missed them in the UK a couple of years ago, it'll probably be a while until they come anywhere near again.

On a semi-unrelated note are any other UK goons heading to ArcTanGent festival this weekend? It's the same chilled people as the guys who run 2000trees and the lineup this year, its first year, is pretty insane. 65dos, ASIWYFA, TTNG, Yndi Halda, Rolo Tomassi, Johnny Foreigner, Brontide among others, it's pretty much the festival of my dreams. :swoon:

I'm not as much of a fan of him as I was of Stu, though I thought he was fine when I saw him at a small venue. He was pretty disappointing on the main stage at 2000trees though this year, having problems with hitting some of the notes in the earlier songs and just general issues with his voice which was a little worrying.

Anybody seen TTNG live? I just moved to Chicago and live within long walking/short bus ride distance of the venue where they're playing.

I've seen them at least ten times live, it's always worth it especially if it's in a nice small venue where they can chat to everyone watching. I still miss their old singer(s) but they're still great and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere.

I was there too, it was great. I was the guy walking around in the red cape on the Saturday with lights running down my arm later at the silent disco. Incredible atmosphere as usual and good performances from everyone I saw. Rollo tomassi and talons were probably the highlight for me.

I managed to go to the first one as well and that was equally good, seriously if you're in the UK it always has an amazing lineup and everyone is super chilled.

I won't be at Arctangent this year sadly, Boomtown is this weekend and I tried to do both last year but it was far too much for my body to really handle. The line up is drat good though as always, particularly American Football and MMISL.

If Giraffes? Giraffes! ever came across the pond I'd be there in a heartbeat though.

Unfortunately they don't really travel that much. They're from western mass and it's a rare sight seeing them in even eastern mass. Although I think I got the ball rolling for them to play in Lowell soon!

Idk if they realize how much of an online/international following they have. They usually are the familiar local opener for touring math rock/whatever bands

Yeah, I've been saddened for years by their lack of travelling but it is completely understandable. One day I'll get over and see all the US bands that never tour, Look Mexico managed to have a gig the day after I left Florida which I'm still smarting about!

There's a new American Football album coming out too which is pretty drat exciting, and a preview track already here. After seeing them already this year I'm pretty drat excited for some new music and more touring.

And for those of your returned from ArcTangent, have they changed the silent disco playlist on the last night yet? I'd be happy for them to keep the Mars Volta channel but having the main channel just play the same tracks every year was starting to get to me last year.
