I've installed TCOM and it worked beautifully... with one hitch. There are named guards wandering about the Imperial City (and elsewhere) which I think may be a part of City Life (but I'm not sure)... and their helmet and sometimes curiass meshes are invisible. So I have a lot of bald guards with invisible chests walking around.

I'll try to get a screenshot, but I thought I'd post this before I go to bed.

I have tried my best to install TCOM, however I keep getting a crash on a new game load or a save game load. I know it works up to MOBS Fix 1.2.2 in the TCOM install guide. Trying to get everything else installed is a pain though. I noticed that I don't have "++ Cobl Filter Late MERGE ONLY.esp [Version 1.53]" But it's listed in the guide. Where does this get installed from / how?

And I am still getting this error when making a bashed patch.

Load Error Mods
The following mods had load errors and were skipped while building the patch. Most likely this problem is due to a badly formatted mod. For more info, see Bashed Patch: Error Messages.

• Adventure Pack 1.esp

Edit: I give up I tried disabling every mod and the game still will not run.

Did you try deleting oblivion.ini in Documents\My Games\Oblivion? Sometimes that fucks poo poo up and prevents the game from even starting. (It's weird like that.)

Ok, so the problem is Oblvion XP. When I take out this mod then the game runs perfect. Whenever I install it, I get a crash at newgame load. I have no clue why it is doing this since it is fully compatible with FCOM and I figured it would be fine to use with TCOM. If someone could guide me in the right direction of using this with TCOM instead of Kobus Character Advancement that would be great.

If you're looking to mix it up a little or skip the starting area completely, try Tungol's Starting Options. There are like 45 places to start or placed at randomly.
You can also select some equipment options, though it isn't as thorough as some of the ones for Morrowind.

It'll clash with anything starting quest related, obviously and if you use TCOM you'll need to disable the quickstart omod.

When I installed oblivionxp into tcom I disabled KCAS, Kobu's Health Whatever, and Kobu's Jack of All Trades. I didn't try it before disabling those three.

I also put it at the absolute rock bottom of my load order.

Ok, so you have to install Oblivion XP after Darn UI or else you get some crash issues.

Does this let you skip ahead in the main quest as well? I don't feel like the game is really started until I've escorted the prince to the home of the blades (kind of the same deal with Fallout 3 and getting the dish for Three Dog)

Probably don't have to spoiler tag those things but oh well

It seems like you have to go through the prison sequence to start the main quest.

Yes, Oblivion XP makes a few changes to the UI (stats and level up menus). If you make any UI changes you will want to reinstall Oblivion XP.

I get that part. I guess what I'm looking for is an advanced advanced start. Basically I'd like to be able to start a new char and have the gate popping up as if I have completed through Kvatch or whatever the trigger is.

I'm sure you can use quickstart and put in some console commands to make the game think that you have completed the story line quests. I have no clue what the commands would be but I know it's possible.

I'm guessing the answer is probably no, but is TR0LLs mod pack hosted anywhere else besides a torrent? Ever since I've moved and changed ISPs I've had a lot of problems getting torrents to work right, so I thought I'd ask on the offchance they were hosted somewhere else as well.

You sons of bitches.

I thought I was free of this game. I did everything, explored everywhere. I had moved on.

Seriously thanks a lot for the detailed OP. I have installed and played Oblivion probably 100 times since release. It looks like some really nice mods are out and finally stable enough to invest some time in without worrying about my save file getting corrupted.

One question though: Does TCOM do anything for the feel of combat? I always hated how stiff, lifeless and unresponsive it felt to swing a sword, like there was some delay between hitting the mouse button and your weapon actually moving. Not to mention the actual feedback from a weapon hitting left much to be desired.

Also a thanks to the seeders, many of whom I'm sure are from here. I'll be sure to stay on and seed for a while, at least until this thread drops to page 3 of the forum.

I don't wanna come off as a dick, but if you're installing TCOM and following the guide it's pretty straightforward.

As for them not launching properly, we'd have to know which tools and what version of Oblivion/OS you're running to help.

Deadly Reflexes is a part of it which I'm sure you're familiar with. I also use Unnecessary Violence which helps out combat a whole lot for me, but as for the weapon feel I'm not sure it changes that. You might want to look into Symphony of Violence, it's just a sound mod but adds a whole lot to the experience of combat.

As for seeding, I've uploaded 370 GB total on the TCOM torrent, there is a lot of people playing your pack Tr0ll.

Uh.
I really hate how Bethesda did the exact same thing they did with Morrowind where instead of making their expansions/DLC work in an organic way with the core game, they just have you bombarded with notes at the beginning of the game that let you do it at level 1. Some of the good mods do this as well (archaeology guild one, I think its lost spires?)

I understand that in Oblivion vanilla you can do everything at level 1 anyway, but it feels really stupid playing for the first time to have you inventory filled with notes and your quest log filled with quests before you've even seen civilization.

Except when it doesn't work, and it becomes one gigantic clusterfuck.

Now I can't even get a clean installation of Oblivion into a different directory to start, it just crashes out after showing the 'e' in Bethesda. One of those utilities dug itself in and is messing stuff up now, I'm having a fun time manually removing it all one by one :(

On this note, I've been playing Lost Spires and it's really bloody good. It's a mite heavy on the rewards ("You picked a lock and spoke to me, congrats, here's 5k worth of magical swords.") and the voice acting is really poo poo at times, it's mostly bearable but a couple of characters you just read the text as fast as you can and skip the voices. (Oh hey Teav, can you talk any slower and in an even more grating tone?)

Thank god he dies.

Other than that it's brilliant.

Gaaah, I installed the TCOM pack and everything's dandy but I can't seem to figure out two things. One, most of the chests I find just glow purple when I try to use them, no error-- nothing. Second, I can't seem to fast travel.

If anyone can help me identify/understand what's going on that would be great, browsing through the add-on descriptions isn't providing much help.

TCOM disables fast travel, but you can place marks and teleport to them with magic.

To pick chests, you have to be stealthed or have your weapons sheathed. Otherwise, it'll glow purple, meaning you can attack it to try to force the lock.

You can hotkey them (hold down the number key (1-9) that you want to bind, and then click what you want to bind to that key). You can do this with weapons too.

How does that work? There's gate mark and gate jump, as well as partner ring and a partner warp ring. The partner ring doesn't seem to do anything and the warp ring teleports me to the imperial market. The gate spells don't seem to do anything at all. Do you know which mod added those in? I'd check the readme but I have no idea where to look.

Midas Magic has the spell.

I can't remember what exactly it's called, but it's the very first spell in the book. Something like Astral Portal?

Gives you a markable location to teleport to for every gem type. Very useful if you don't use fast travel which I honestly, really recommend you don't. I finally turned it off just to see why people like it, and i'm tripping over ruins and caves I would have never seen otherwise.

I just wish the horseback riding controls weren't utter loving garbage.
