So who's going to Maschinenfest next year? It's not a real bad trek for me (Denmark), and I'd love to actually meet another goon in real life, particularly if they're anything like MF regulars :black101:

If I go, I'll probably find lodgings together with my friends, but I wouldn't mind hanging out with you as much as possible. Let me know come the time :)

Thanks for the link, love it, although the music video was bizarre. EBM set against a backdrop of two guys fixing up a lovely old car :psyduck:

What the gently caress did Aesthetic Perfection do to anybody? Good tunes, and they're the nicest guys.

300 bux for a 24" cotton rag with paint on it? I guess I see now why people get annoyed by Laibach.

As a former print technician, let me assure you that they are asking( at least!) triple the production costs in this case.

Yeah, it's pretty unreal. I didn't even know this many people were still into this scene, let alone able to gather in one place. And there is so loving much going on - over a dozen venues running in parallel.

Hope you can make it next year!

I've been six years in a row, so no surprise :) Just a lot of things keeping me in my home country over the pentecost :/

Cool, it's not just me then. I kind of appreciate that they got enough self awareness and irony to poke a bit of fun at the genre.

Anyone going to Kalabalik in Sweden this fall? I'm kinda tempted. Bestial Mouths killed the last time I saw them, Kælan Mikla are amazing, and Sturm Café is playing.

Also, getting into stuff like Ad:Key, Orange Sector and Sturm Cafe. Any particular albums I should start with?

Sturm Cafe's Europa album is absolutely great. I don't mean this in a bad way, but Ad:Key and Orange Sector's albums tend to be quite samey (because they have a sound and stick to it) so you can't go wrong with the most recent ones.

You might also like Spark! (their recent album Maskiner is really good)

If you want to find more bands similar to the ones you mentioned, take a look at past lineups for the Familientreffen festival. Most of the bands who play that festival have a similar sound to the three you mentioned.

Thanks! Did some digging, and I really love Europa, their other stuff not so much.

I heard the same thing about those bands, hah - must be the straight dope. I hadn't heard about Familietreffen, though - thanks a bunch!

I do find it awesome that the spooky synthwave stuff gets billing at metal festivals now, that's pretty cool.

Came to post about this, apparently I:Gorr is one of the headlining bands at Copenhell, I am going to see the hell out of that show.

E: Er, mea culpa. I:Gorr is clearly not synthwave, but it's pretty interesting that metal festivals include electronic and sample culture bands regardless.

The lineup at Roadburn this year looked like an insane mixture of metal and electronic and weird stuff. Way too much stuff I really didn't like for me to go, but still kinda neat to see really cool lineups like that.

Edit:

I always thought of Leaetherstrip as a kind of cheesy overly spooky industrial band who happen to release an insane amount of stuff and didn't pay them too much attention but holy poo poo this track from the start of the year is ace. It's got the same kind of brutal honesty as Soft Cell or something. So given their huge amount of releases - what Leaetherstrip albums are worth listening to?

Leatherstrip is one of the best Danish acts, and a really cool dude to boot.

morally adept posted:

Its obvious that Death in Rome is the only good neo folk band.

Rome is really good, but apparently they've gone dumb. Also, Death in June er dumb fash or fascist-adjacent, and not really good enough to merit attention once you know that.

Tangentially related only, but I find a lot of EBM fans love Scooter, and their live-stream from earlier today is more or less as great as seeing them live

This may be a little too electro-adjacent and if so I'm sorry, but Francoise Cactus of wave giants Stereo Total died on the 17th of october, from breast cancer :smith:

She was always kind to be around and an amazing talent who nevertheless didn't get star crazy. Honour to her memory:

Just realized a new Sturm Cafe album came out.. in February :eng99:

I really, really, really like Sturm Café, but this just doesn't seem to have any bangers. How can the folks who made Europa put out a sequel without any well-composed EBM on it? :(

Not strictly speaking only electro/industrial, but I'm pretty sure this will be some of you guys' jam.

Friends of mine from the Danish industrial scene (Ex- MOTH, Chainsaw Eaters and Kold Front) put together a pretty ripping EP:

Sturm Cafe was a lot of fun, especially in a cramped space like Lygten, København. My mate Albert Severin warmed up, and I gotta say he's really gotten his project off the ground: Really gloomy acid trance with more than a few pointers to Psychic TV:
