Isn't extracting spinal fluid extremely painful but very possible, especially considering shifters have a healing factor? Not all the titans, just the ones in the zeppelin so he could force shift them and slightly control them. They had been making titans for years and letting them lose on paradise island.

The whole story prior was actually this new shifter processing all the new memories, and them getting mixed up when it's a memory of Eren remembering someone else. I would actually be more fine with this then them "butterfly effecting" the story
