Is it ok to post old commercials here? From the "It was a good idea at the time" Department, I present to you: Ayds Diet Candy. Ayds was a very popular product in the 70's and early 80's, promoted as a tasty weight-loss candy. It had quite a large market share in the "weight loss products" department. That was before the discovery and classification of the AIDS disease in the early 80's. Suddenly, people didn't want AYDS anymore. The company stubbornly refused to change the name of the product even after their sales dropped by 85% and quickly went out of business.
