Discogs apparently hasn't been updated. Guerssen put out legit (-ish?) reissues of a bunch of period Manco LPs:
http://www.guerssen.com/catalogue.p...ield_text=baris

Forced Exposure has most of them in stock. They're all well sourced and good quality (or at least close to the OGs, some poo poo's hot/blown out a bit.)

Both of those records are pretty goofy at best iirc

Second one is lame, first one is super amateurish but earnest and reaches beyond its grasp. I like it, and if it were a US psych private it'd still be sweated but it def rode the afro hype wave.

(full disclaimer, i own OGs of the first one and I got it as like a deal add on while splashing out for a (better) different afro hype lp)

I guess this means I should probably invest in some cleaning materials. I don't typically mind it since I'm only paying $1 for most of what I've got.

For dollar / flea records you really just need a spray bottle and a couple of old tshirts and it'll make a big difference:

Unless you're going to pony up for a vacuum cleaner / VPI of some sort the best bang for your buck is just the super simple alcohol solution: %25 isopropyl alcohol (91%), %75 water (distilled if you're on the spectrum), and like one or two drops of dish soap to act as a surfactant. Apply w/ a spray or squeeze bottle, rub circularly with microfibre cloth, repeat a couple of times, let air dry for like 30 seconds.

Stoked to finally get a copy of the best BR looks-like-but-isn't-inept-thrash LP:

How does a diamond, literally the hardest substance on Earth, “wear” against plastic?

It's normally poo poo in the grooves like dust the slowly abrade the polish and basically round off the tip a bit. It takes a long time and depends on the record being played, but it happens. The cantilever suspension also wears out (depending on the rubber at the base, etc), which will change the strike angle of the tip and expose new edges to catch more poo poo, etc.

So the plastic's not really the culprit, it's the collected poo poo in the groove. Clean your record, occasionally your stylus, and a good cart will last well past the 1k "average" unless there's mechanical failure.

My site archives eBay sales / auctions for the last 5 or so years: https://gripsweat.com

Sounds like you bought a tub of 78s. Grading / shipping them is a bit specialized so read up if you're going to try selling any.

It's VMP Announcement Day and I must say this could be my favorite month to date.

They also released an exclusive for De La Soul is Dead, but it crashed the site and I think they are taking it down and re-releasing tonight. I managed to grab one though so I am stoked!

You used to be able to just email Miller and buy a copy of Oriental Jazz since he had a bunch of dead stock. You'd get a package with the LP and like 20 CD-R's of just random stuff he'd recorded and a couple of burned DVDs of his TV appearances. It was a pretty cool package, but I ended up just giving the CDs and poo poo to other people.

I think he still randomly posts copies on eBay every other month or something.

Can anyone give me recommendations for good psychedelic rock or psychedelic jazz from the 60's and 70's?

If you're looking for kiiiinda similar outish-jazz-but-with-drums/back beat then there's stuff like:

For moody-loops stuff, there's a lot of lesser-known rhodes and private press LPs floating around:

also every Howard Hanger LP has a sampleable moment and those are all pretty unknown outside of digger nerds.

Dusty fingers / MPC fodder jazz poo poo is a long worn genre.

Gotta get that Teenager of the Year.

Legit reissue of Alice Clark is cool, maybe the Roots Radics everything else is the usual ehhhh. If anyone's into soul it's pretty essential and hard as hell to get OGs of:

also if you like Alice Clark, there was reissue last your of Ruby Andrews - Black Ruby which was also a pain in the rear end to get:

e: Actually, this is pretty cool. The Parliaments 45s on Revilot are all good, nice to hear unreleased stuff https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/10834

Yah it's honestly not a bad total price including international shipping. Might have to pull the trigger.

Speaking of 45's above, does anyone in here actually collect 45's? A big portion of my collection is actually 45's and I have been spending a lot of time with a collector buddy who mainly focuses on 45s. Its almost a whole new world of record collecting compared to LP's.

I've probably got ~400 45s, mostly funk/soul. Most heavy soul collections end up being mostly 45, just because you end up in the weeds. I did a soul/funk night for a while and it was a LOT easier to carry a flight case of 45s than a bunch of 12s.

If you don't care about rare-spotters then you can actually put together a decent set w/ cheapies, might take awhile to find clean copies. Here's a bunch of random ones that I'd play out, just flipping through the first bit of my case:

e: bummer, cut off. the bottom right is darrow fletcher - way of a man. one of my faves.

Also, because I was usually playing to a punk/divebar crowd that like the music but didn't know much about soul I'd do a chunk of songs well known as samples / covers to get people onto the floor and always got good response. (_everybody_ knows the intro to Harlem Shuffle and the bridge from Lyn Collins - Think)

here's the ones that were in the case:

Jico makes a Shure M44 drop-in replacement that's pretty much the exact same as the discontinued Shure stylus: https://www.jico-stylus.com/product...roducts_id=1740

Shure M44s are awesome for kind of off-condition 45s, probably track too heavy for styrene (especially if you're back queuing it). I never set mine at the recommended 3g, either.

How much can you make off this stuff that it would be worth standing outside for a whole day in the snow and possibly rain? A lot of stores have a one per customer policy too so it's not like they can buy multiple copies of whatever the thing is to sell for maximum profit. People are morons.

People without access / opportunity for RSD junk will happily pay a premium:
