All they have to do is look at the castlevania netflix show to see how to do dunk and egg and be successful. It’s a really similar story structure with equally compelling characters that merge into the ‘main’ story well enough to be interesting but loving lmao if anyone involved in this franchise understands what makes it good.

Glidus' videos are great, and they're really well-edited. He's fun when he gets on Preston's streams. He makes fun of people who take weird theories seriously, so it's fun to see someone push back on Preston.

Well I’m pretty sure that Preston has given up the ghost on believing that GRRM has some genius deep subtextual plot underneath the bad actual plot.

It has been fun to watch Preston go from "Dornish Master Plan" to "Prepping for Winter" to "George didn't start writing until COVID" to "I'm going to write Winds." During one of Preston's streams, he started going over a viewer question about specific symbolism in a Dany vision, and when he asked Glidus what he thought, Glidus said "I don't think any of these kinds of people have ever done psychadelics" and it was cathartic to hear.

It’s always funny to remember that the overall plot of the series has only inched forward since the year 2000.

I imagine it's pretty discouraging devoting so much of your time speculating on a series that you have become increasingly aware is probably never going to be finished.

Remember how when all was said and done she literally just walked off into the sunset and died, her mission complete and no punishment for the numerous crimes she'd committed, no vengeance for Brienne or anything remotely fulfilling?

The latest chapter! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQcoXQaEXZ4. Hahah, ah, that Alleras business, don't see much of that in this decade's fiction. Does Jon's lack of concern there keep it from being terribly regressive?

Even his blog posts are a rambling mess. Also lol at a 325 man who gets no exercise in his 70s claiming he's going to finish a book series where it appears to take him at least 5 years minimum, absolute minimum, on average, to write a book in the series, and each book takes longer than the last, and each book introduces more plot threads and characters he has to deal with, and as far as I can tell A Dance with Dragons actually moved the series further away from concluding, it was just negative progress. The lack of self-awareness in that blog is kind of sad.

Can't help but agree. I tried to read it through a kinder lens, but it's just the same excuses and waffling that you would expect of someone blowing off a lit course in college. "Um, you see, this is, like, my STYLE, teach. And there's -different- characters this time around. Yeah, totally not the same as before! Well ok, they are the same, most of them, but they have to to jive organically, maaan. It's like the universe, changing, being created and destroyed at the same time. Your phony deadlines don't work on me, man! " At this point I'd really respect him way more if he just stopped pretending. Start a Fallout fanfiction webring, 90s style. Say he is tired of living in the realm of the mind and is training for sumo.

The loving flowery language gets me. I go through doors that lead nowhere, and doors that open on marvels (thank you muse). This is the most fun he's had writing about Winds of Winter in ten years.

It's the first thing remotely resembling substance that he's written about Winds in at least 10 years, I'd say. The part that gets me is where he parenthetically reminds us that "This is hard, guys" - what? What's hard - actually writing an update about your progress for your fans for the first time in a decade? Writing a novel at a rate of fewer than 100 words a day? Running your own tiny railroad? What's so HARD about all this, George, really?

Should be noted that pretty much all the characters he named are ones that get the most attention in terms of speculation about where the story is going. Make me wonder how much time the old man spends on Reddit and other forums these days. The whole post reeks though, seems like a forerunner to a post that admits defeat.

If it were literally one decade prior I could still say "wow it's almost a sick kind of admirable that he's still sticking to his guns in spite of so much evidence that-- at best and with the most good faith possible-- we can say that his methods empirically don't work." But it's 2022 and we live in Hellworld and this man is completely delusional and up his own rear end. I'm not sure which is sadder-- the fact that he thinks he's fooling anyone or that there will always be rubes ready to get fooled.

GRRM posted:(I do fear that a certain proportion of fans are so angry about how long WINDS has taken me that they are prepared to hate the book, unread. That saddens me, but there nothing I can do about it, but write the best book that I can, and hope that when it comes out most fans will read it with clean hands and an open mind) Yeah, if only there was something you could do about the criticisms of how long the book is taking to come out. But it's not in your hands at all. (it being a keyboard to write a book). In other news check out half an encyclopaedia, 5 other tv shows, a bunch of Wild Cards books, a cinema, a railroad, my new arrangement of toy soldiers in my mancave house and *fart* etc

I feel like the man honestly believes he invented the process of “gardening” while writing a story and doesn’t understand that there have been plenty of prior successful “gardeners” who not only did it better but also finished within a reasonable amount of time.
