Anyone have a recommendation for an app that wil tag mp3s based on their filename / directory structure? I am recording a bunch of LPs and cassettes, and am not looking forward to tagging every file.

The week I've had a lot of problems with the audio balance - it looks like the balance is getting thrown to the left in the Sound preference pane. I googled around a bit and saw that this has been a regular and ongoing problem, but thought I'd mention it here in case anyone has a fix or workaround. It's really odd that it just started this week!

Dictation just transcribed "well, what's the point then?" to "Old porn." So as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a cross-platform peer-to-peer folder syncing app? I've been using Windows Live So, if anyone had any other options that might work, it would be much appreciated. I like to keep my documents synced across computers, along with a family photo album.

Lexicon posted:DropBox is great, and SpiderOak is even more secure and flexible (at the cost of ease-of-use). I'll have to check out SpiderOak, thanks! I use DropBox too - but there's no option to just sync peer-to-peer for free there, I'd have to buy a ton of cloud storage space from them. Mesh was awesome for being totally free and just letting me keep all my computers synced up, and DropBox is awesome for letting me access things from public computers. edit: I can't quite tell from the SpiderOak website - is the space they charge for just for cloud storage/backup, or does it include folders you're syncing? TACD posted:Don't forget about Bitcasa - literally unlimited storage for free while it's in beta, and it seems like they intend to only charge $10/mo once it's out of beta which seems pretty reasonable for infinite storage. That's pretty cool too. I already pay CrashPlan for backup storage, so I am reluctant to pay anyone else for something I really just intend to use for syncing folders.

Has anyone else been having problems with Safari's performance lately? I've been having laggy performance (delays when scrolling, typing, loading new pages) that seems to have started with the most recent update.

I don't have any extensions enabled, but I should check console. I'll try to take a look tomorrow and see if I find anything. Thanks!

Binary Badger posted:Nah, you really need a powered hub. In my experience the USB port on the AE is just all kinda of lovely. I have a powered USB hub on it for a while, and it would randomly disconnect drives. Now I have a standalone USB hard drive, powered by its own power adapter, plugged straight into the AE and it will actually kill the whole AE if I transfer a lot of data to/from the drive. Suddenly in them middle of a transfer (ranging from copying large directories, to updating apps in iTunes) the AE will stop broadcasting Wifi, loses the hard drive, and requires an unplug-replug.

EAT THE EGGS RICOLA posted:Use crashplan's free tier to sync your stuff to all of your machines What do you mean by 'sync' here? I could see using this to push files to a backup computer, but as far as I know Crashplan's backups aren't two-way (ie the computer 'backing up' the folder wouldn't propagate files back to the 'source'). Have I been missing functionality here?

Erinyes posted:Thanks for the explanation! Is there a workaround or fix that one can apply? Looks like I should cancel my reservation at the Genius Bar - everything else works well so far for all other intensive applications (Photoshop/Indesign), just really annoyed that the experience on Chrome is less than. I almost considered returning the Pro and going with a souped up Air instead... You could try going into Chrome's settings > Show advanced settings... and way down at the bottom un-checking "Use hardware acceleration when available." I had some luck with that on a 2010 mbp which was always forced to use its discrete graphics when Chrome was open. Be sure to close all the way out of chrome, and maybe even restart just to be safe, because Chrome doesn't let go of the hardware until all of it's helper apps are also closed and restarted.

I got it plugged into a monitor in the second hdmi and the sucker keeps randomly turn back on from sleep and staying on. Power settings are fine. It's plugged in. Nothing poling USB or anything. Any ideas? How is the battery? I’ve had lots of older laptops develop some battery swell that pushes on the keyboard or touch/trackpad from underneath.
