I kinda like the idea of insulating the tub, seems like a good idea if you like taking warm baths. Is this actually a bad idea? I seem to recall people saying cast iron bath tubs were great for long hot baths due to their mass. I assume a tub liner with fiberglass insulation would not be anywhere near as good as a cast iron tub, surely it is at least better than nothing for retaining heat. I think the biggest thing I would be worried about would be water seeping around the tub and finding it's way to the fiberglass insulation, but even then the tub has a big lip which should cut down on that considerably. Really I think if they didn't decide to go big with a full tub and just installed a stand up shower they could have actually added value to the bathroom instead of creating a disaster.

Aw man, my takedown of that horrible bathroom never posted. Why not just put in a corner tub if baths are so important? I mean besides being a complete moron and having no concept that there are factors at play besides how something looks, which they evidently understand since they insulated the tub? You guys can defend that mud flower all you want but that bullshit on the wall is going to swell and crack. By this mythical 5 year mark that entire bathroom will literally be falling apart and mildewed, and they will never sell that thing. That tile makes me literally want to vomit. I've seen actual children do tidier work.

I can't believe no one has commented on the random 2x4 they somehow attached to the wall/clinging to hold up their shower curtain rod. I'm also real confused as to what the 2x4s they inserted into the walls are actually nailed or attached to

An L shower rod would have been perfect, as would a corner tub. Well, I don't know about perfect, but better than the half-assed poo poo she did. According to that picture of her installing the pocket over the tub, she didn't use enough studs.

Regarding secret doorways, secret rooms, etc., they always make me feel paranoid. Like, I'm worried that someone could get trapped in one, and due to the hidden mechanisms involved, nobody would be able to find/reach them. Is this really just paranoia on my part?

There's also a culture of wanting to be welcoming to everyone and avoid being judgemental, which probably derives in part from the substantial LGBTQ (or otherwise historically-repressed/prejudiced against) community in the area. It's a tough problem, because there are a lot of people that you really don't want in your community for real but hard-to-define issues, like "is a complete rear end in a top hat". Because they're hard to objectively define, though, there's no rules against them, which leads to, on the one hand, abuse by assholes, and on the other hand, cries of favoritism / biased leadership as soon as anyone tries to take action against the assholes. tl;dr naive people trying to make utopia happen run smack into people willing to abuse the kindness of strangers.

My makerspace is like a 50/50 mix of hard working trades types who just want access to cool power tools and 3d milling machines and poo poo, and tech people and engineering students and stuff. Some BO issues on the tech side but the biggest drama in the space is people not cleaning up the metal shop after they're done or someone breaking the blade on the bandsaw and not replacing it. It's actually been a great experience because there's so many really experienced trades and engineering types that are always around and happy to give you advice on your projects or tell you the actual best-practises way of building or making something.

Granted this didn't involve penetrating the drywall. My best friend in high school made a rig like that. He was a carpenter with his dad and he made a pull cord so he could turn the lights off and on from his bed. It was clever. He did it almost like that but it was same room. He used a loop of cable so he could pull it either way. It was awesome. He rigged it so that the loop was mounted right by his bed and couldn't be dropped. I just used a lamp by my bed at home but his way was more fun. Apropos of nothing, when I slept over at his house, he'd wake me up with ammonia held under my nose. Just about the worst way to wake up.
