That meme lead me to discover all their stuff was being reissued on Domino Records ... and it all 1. sold out immediately and 2. wasn't shipping to any of the Americas. So irritating ... there's obviously a huge pent up demand.

(Some discovered they could get shipping to at least North America from the band's official site, but their quantities also sold out immediately.)

Someone on reddit hooked me up with a link to Juno records, where I was able to score a deluxe Loveless for cheaper than the mbv website was selling it. They seem to be sold out there now too :(

I was able to get a standard LP from the mbv site, but chose not to because the shipping was absurd and it felt dumb to spend more when the deluxe was the same price.

Aw, just saw on Facebook that Dion & Lia left A Place to Bury Strangers. They're replaced by Sandra and John Fedowitz from Ceremony East Coast with whom I am not (yet) familiar.

I just watched Parks & Rec for the first time, and I laughed so hard at Ben being a successful prom DJ playing R.E.M.

I did a search for the word on the last page and this in addition to skimming the posts. Has blankenberge been posted about? They're kind of doing that whole explosions but with words and russian thing I wish I could pull off but alas I'm a home recording goon. Their album cover looks like little big planet which is also kind of a goony thing to think.

i don't have any specific memories of it but i'm sure they did. they played other 'gazey stuff, Curve, Lush. 120 minutes was where i first encountered them.

Love the whole thing, but if you're only in for one make it Prism. That song might just be an all-timer.

Their later albums are mostly dreamy, but this one specifically has that crushing jet fuel guitar sound I really crave. Let's bring back heavy shoegaze

I recently found this topic and it has been a great resource for finding new things to listen to, like

I've listened to the two albums by Vacant Gardens extensively since their releases just before and during the pandemic, and really love the vocals/guitars: https://fwymusic.bandcamp.com/album/obscene. "Whorl" from Obscene and "Open Air" from Under the Bloom are good places to start for those not interested in hearing a whole album.

I kind of like the songs. I wasn't a fan of the stuff before so I'm not the target person to care but i've enjoyed the direction this album is going though I guess they've been trending this direction since the last album? I'm not a metal dude so it kind of loses me.

I've posted once before in the thread about my music so hopefully I don't go too far into self promotion only posts but I released an album. https://starlithues.bandcamp.com/album/lifting-off-the-ground-3

It's not the traditional mbv whammy bar gaze - I don't have a whammy bar - it's more the going blank again style with some post rock stuff going on. Basically an album written from the soundscape of the ride song called grasshopper. It's on spotify and apple music monday but I made it live on band camp early. I spent too much time on this inbetween coffee life stuff and feel that although I'm not kicking down new sound doors or getting 5 star pitchforks reviews from 2012 it's probably going to make some old goony dudes happy there's someone making something. Would be neat to play some shows or keep writing so I guess if you feel inclined it would be neat to make it into a playlist so the algorithms pick it up. Any suggestions on how to self promote also welcome. I last played in bands in Bush 1 term so my general feel for this is kinda old school.

As an aside I found this band from the gaze facebook page. It's more in line with my soundscape but they're called twen and the track to listen to is called damsel. They sound like they sat on that song for a long time and had some money behind the production too!

Thanks for the rec. They have some of the most amazing vocals I've ever heard, even though they're almost completely incomprehensible. The guitar distortion on the title track knocked me out of my seat. Overall it's like Cocteau Twins and Constants (or Junius) had a baby.

Possibly not much considering Loveless has been re-pressed to vinyl several times since 2003.

Find the version/catalog number you have on discogs. Then search ebay for it (be sure to check "sold items" on the left nav menu [scroll down a ways to find it]).

It just came out today, and it's so full-on shoegaze that I can't even justify posting about it in the metal thread.

It's pretty good, but I've heard better from the styles it's aping, which is to be expected if a genre switch isn't your band's forte. I think the vocals could use some dreamy reverb, and not be quite so high in the mix - George almost sounds, I guess "uncertain" at times is the best way to phrase it. Musically it's somewhere between a late 90s alternative album, and a more crisply produced Slowdive album without as many effects. I expected more of a cavernous sound though; like it should sound bigger than it does.

I can definitely see where you're coming from with regards to the vocals, but I'm still liking the album a lot anyway :shobon:

I think for a band that had post-rock/shoegaze elements already, they were poised to do the genre shift well and they pulled it off with good results IMO
