He's not fired because to the corporate suits life is literally nothing. Verhoeven's satire does not operate through being subtle. He's the kind of guy who makes NPH throw on a Gestapo uniform to point out that maybe Starship Troopers is a book that has a slight fascist slant possibly.

These are people who killed Charlie's mother, have kept her and her father prisoner, kept her separated from her father, and pretty much are going to kill her father as soon as his use runs out. These people have no issue torturing or shooting civilians, lying and imprisoning a little girl, or with her eventual murder, but molesting or raping her is where they draw the loving line? It's totally fine morally to kidnap, imprison, and do terrible things to a kid, but the scientists would have balked if John wanted to touch her.

Rape and murder are pretty different, man. I mean, you can murder for justice or for the good of your country. Testing, kidnapping, and even killing psychics makes sense because they are dangerous with a capital D (Or at least so the scientists tell themselves.) Rape doesn't figure in to quantifying or controlling for the good of the nation, so standard rules of society apply.

(The real reason is that he's a mythocomplex character but that only applies when Grant Morrison is writing him because no one else gets it.)
