I thought that SCEA had standards where every game release from now on had to have trophies and certain features before they were allowed to be sold or did I just have some crazy stuck in my brain?

Regardless, I'm buying the hell out of Godhand just to support it more.

For PS3 games yes that's the rule. If these were ports or HD re-releases they would have those features. There are exceptions for PSOne Classics, PS3 titles released [on disc] before that mandate and assumedly these PS2 Classics.

Guys, help me out.

I have enough money budgeted to get one game this month, and I'm having the hardest time deciding between Arkham City and Dark Souls. I know what I'd be getting from both of them, and I plan on playing them both eventually. Anyone have biased opinions that could maybe convince me either way?

Also, I'll probably trade whichever one I get in towards Skyrim, so I can kill some dragons. :woop:

Do you hate yourself? If so get Dark Souls. If you're looking for a severely challenging yet rewarding experience that has great longevity it's a better buy but it is but no means a game for everyone. I'm not nearly masochistic or patient enough to enjoy it.

What are your thoughts on Batman? If you're a fan Arkham City is loaded with fan-service. It is a nearly identical experience, gameplay-wise to AA but I'm totally fine with that since it was my GOTY of 2009. I love me some Batman and while the game is pretty easy it puts a smile on my face.

So what do you want out of your next game?

Yeah, I never imagined realistic gunplay working in an FPS, and I suppose that's where most of the confusion comes from. It's the ubiquity of guns in games that I have a problem with, where it's to the point that a gun is so often your main means of interacting with the game world.

When I talk about a game that makes guns appear to have some weight, I'm not talking about an FPS where everybody goes down in one hit. I'm talking about, say, something like Fallout 3, except where guns are powerful and super rare. The game doesn't revolve around gunplay and encourages you to utilize other means, but there's a very rare chance that you could find a gun and a few bullets, and that's a Very Big Deal; you have to keep it secret or else people would try to take it from you, you have to be careful with it because you only have a couple shots, that sort of thing. Even the act of showing it would have a big impact and have you being treated as a god among men.

But nope, most games are just about you having 10 guns strapped to your back and letting you pick up ammo off dead guys without even having to bend over.

I Am Alive seems to be closer to that idea.

Resident Evil 4 and Mass Effect 2 were both January releases. Just off the top of my head.

I know MK has a $10 online pass.

Does anyone know if I share the PSN version with a friend if we'll need to buy the passes for each account separately? That would negate any savings from sharing it since we both have PS+.

I am loving the poo poo out of the Max Anarchy demo. It's got that token Platinum insanity and is super fun. Plus the music is fantastic. I left the game sitting on the main menu for what must've been an hour. Can't wait for it to come out in July, plus according to Amazon it comes with a download code for Bayonetta, which I still haven't played.

Last night I finally got around to starting Syndicate and only got about fifteen minutes in before I gave up and turned it off. The game was completely unplayable due to the stuttering framerate, which would periodically freeze the action for two seconds and then make everything move in super-fast Benny Hill motion for two seconds to catch up to where I was supposed to be.

Is there some kind of fix for this, or is Syndicate on the PS3 really just a broken, unplayable wreck?

No no, that's not what I mean. I spent the whole series brokering peace between alien races, from the most similar to increasingly more and more different ones. Finally, I started peace between the Quarians and Geth. That was the high point of the whole series for me, it showed me that I was so awesome that I could put an end to a thousand year war, and that even organics and synthetics have common ground and can coexist. And then the glowy kid came along and told me the thing I just did, not two game hours earlier, was actually impossible, and I had no option to deny it. gently caress that ending forever and ever and it retroactively makes the rest of the game bad.

I had the Leviathan DLC spoiled for me. There is exposition that explains that plothole in so much as the Reapers are themselves a rampant AI so dedicated to that original objective of preventing new AI from being created by organics that logic is useless in the fight against them.

This doesn't however, excuse Bioware's incredibly sloppy storytelling.

Insomniac has been trying new things with the franchise a lá All-4-One and Full Frontal Assault because the truth of the matter is that the R&C games sold for poo poo on PS3. Tools of Destruction sold worse than Deadlocked iirc and A Crank In Time was even worse. I don't even think ACiT cracked a million units sold.

The primary Insomniac studio isn't even working on R&C anymore. A4O and FFA were both Raleigh studio productions.

Am I looking at this right? The PStore has a listing for Bioshock Infinite under new games, and it doesn't say pre-order. It says full game, and lists the size. 11.3 GB.

Edit: nevermind, I'm kind of stupid and the basic page is a little misleading. Once you hit the add to cart button, it tells you it's a pre-order.

For me, it doesn't even use the word "release." I was too busy searching for that or "preorder," and instead the date is just hidden in a line of text most people will skip over. Especially when they're getting excited and thinking they can download the game real quick.

It seriously just looks like this: "PS3 | Full Game | 11.3GB | 03.26.2013 | (user ratings) | 2K Games"

Granted, I should have seen that since it's right next to the file size, but it's still kinda sneaky.

Btw, that file size isn't for Infinite, it's for Bioshock 1 which you get free when you buy Infinite on PS3.

I don't think the problem is entirely in the coding. Just because it's easier doesn't mean publishers will suddenly be convinced to assign people to create trophies for these legacy games. It'll still require some investment, which is more than they're likely willing to give.

I hated Final Fantasy XII (and I blindly bought the collector's edition, too :negative:) mostly because I found it to be tremendously boring and at times frustrating. However, I suspect that the International jobs system would go a long way toward fixing that for me. Didn't FF X get a new job system in the International version as well?

FFX's International Ed. was something of an opposite to XII's if I recall, where as The Zodiac Job System created classes to play with, X-I's new Sphere grid was more open ended to develop the characters how you wanted, like Kihmari without going into other character's grids.

I don't wanna get to pretentious but Bioshock had something to say, sure the gameplay wasn't really good and the ending was lackluster but it's actually got a coherent message dammit! Bioshock 2 felt really unnecessary and incoherent with the first game. The locations in Bioshock was better, the story was much, much better and I actually liked the gameplay more than in 2.

I'm also a horribly pretentious dickhole so that might be skewing my opinion a bit.

Bioshock 2 had something to say too. The problem was the message 2K Marin was trying to send was in direct conflict with what Rapture is. Ryan was a hard objectivist and Rapture is the disaster-scenario for a libertarian utopia. Lamb however is a hard socialist but you couldn't use Rapture to adequately send that message when it had already been corrupted by the opposing dichotomy. It was an admirable effort but just didn't work as well as they'd intended. Minerva's Den works because it's not as focused on big philosophical ideals; it's a far more personalized story.
