This isn't an actual Aston Martin that you can buy its just being made for the new James Bond film. You probably won't see any new AM products for a few years yet because the VH platform isn't outdated enough yet apparently.

That's good to hear, but no matter how fantastic it is: it's still not a manual.

Go drive a 15MY Vanquish with that same ZF 8spd auto and then tell me that car would be better served with a 6spd manual.

I think it's more what the driver gets out of the car. A manual provides a driver with greater control, as he is directly dictating the ratio between the crankshaft and the wheels. Some people don't care at all about that, and some people take great pride and pleasure in that. The people that enjoy the amount of control that provides would absolutely prefer the six-speed manual, even if the automatic is faster, intuitive and wipes your butt for you as you drive.

Lol you can do the same in the Vanquish.

Are you limited to doing it sequentially? Or can you go from sixth to third directly, for instance?

Yes you can do block shifting by holding down the downshift paddle.

So if I want to shift to a particular gear, I hold the lever down for a particular amount of time, hoping that I don't fall short or overshoot the single gear I'm aiming for, out of seven possible gears...

My personal preference would be to say "gently caress that poo poo." Granted, I'm not the targeted market for Aston Martin, but still, I would refuse to purchase that automobile given the amount of real traditional manual transmission automobiles still on the market in that segment.

It will select the lowest possible gear without overreving the engine. If you are braking and still holding the paddle it will continue to downshift as vehicle speed allows. If you only want to drop 2 gears you just double tap the paddle.

Also what cars come with a manual today in the £200,000+ segment??

Our lovely Fiat 500 is fun as hell thanks to being a manual. I can only imagine how boring an auto would be.

While this is very true, my arguement is than in high end sports cars with highly tuned suspensions, powerful engines and sticky tyres, a manual gearbox will quickly become the most performance-hampering aspect of the car. To say that such a car would need one in order to be fun and pure is simply backward and ignorant

Sorry if that was too much :spergin:

Also, I'm sorry for not taking the time to do the math to figure out that a FF in 4th gear at 8000 RPM would be traveling about 84 mph which is probably too fast for any car to be traveling at on poor road conditions. Still, it would be hair raising to lose control of a car at that speed. The only reason I know that much is because it's a very weird system compared to other AWD systems.

You sound like you've read a lot about cars but never actually driven one.

Lots of cars running up and down to streets being loud and stuff too. theres lots of car stuff going on down there like the Toyota history garage and like some halfords-type car shop that seems pretty popular?

The Toyota History Garage is pretty awesome and my camera was out of battery at the time or there'd be photos here. It's on the 2nd floor of the VenusFort annex. They've got some sweet classic MGs, an Elan, Alfas, and even a Ferrari! (okay it's a Dino) Plus some other stuff. If I wasn't there last weekend I'd take another trip. Odaiba's a good hour from my place and 2 transfers so uuuuuuugh.

Tokyo car goon meet on Odaiba? There's a go-kart track underneath that Toyota museum now, too...
