There's a subtle puzzle there to suss out that gives you an optional item, collect all optional items for a very slightly different ending.

If you're in a position to take advantage of severed cross-buy, do it. Downloading the game on your other device will cost $0 but is still worth 20 gold coins for My Nintendo. Now if you'll have something worth buying with them, that's another issue altogether.

I ended up trading away my Wii because I had a GameCube and a Wii U and didn't see the reason to keep it, so I did a Wii to Wii U transfer and swapped the Wii. Later, I ended up buying another Wii because of some great homebrew stuff that wouldn't work on the Wii U. I almost never trade anything in and this incident reminded my why: I always end up regretting it later. I ended up getting a black Wii with GameCube backwards compatibility and a WiiMote Plus for only $40, but that's as may be.
