I'm really not looking forward to the stunt host extravaganza they've got going after Couric.

Ken's getting better with experience. I like when multiple contestants buzz in incorrectly on a clue because then he has to use a second, different inflection from the unvarying "...no?" he otherwise uses 100% of the time

Ken is doing a great job IMHO.

One thing he can improve is what to say after a triple stumper. He always says "we were looking for..." Needs some variety.

I don't mind Ken (though I'm another person who thinks Burton would be better) and yeah that poo poo is gonna be bad. Not really sure why they thought it was a good move.

Looks like Couric is only hosting for a week? That would leave about 20 weeks after her until August, which is about when the season usually ends. Things could get ugly.

Interesting, I remember thinking when Richards did that on-air message that he seemed like he could pull off hosting. Wonder how he'll do!

I do think Ken has been doing a great job though, and would be fine with him continuing.

They're doing stunt hosting because this is a great time to bring in new viewers, you dingdongs.

Then Blossom, then Aaron Rodgers. So that's into March accounted for?

I imagine it's been mentioned multiple times in the thread before, but how does the buzzer timing work on Jeopardy? I remember being told a lot of success in Jeopardy can be had just by mastering the buzzer timing.

You can't buzz in until the host finishes reading the clue and someone offstage presses a button. If you buzz in too early, you're locked out for a quarter second which is usually enough time for someone to beat you.

Most contestants know most of the answers, so winning has an awful lot to do with buzzer timing.

Are there any current Jeopardy! datasets available? I see a bunch of sets created from scraping J-Archive back in 2014-2015, but very little since. I could do it myself, but you know, lazy.

This. On either side of the big board are a set of lights that turn on when it's time to buzz in that you can't see on TV, so as soon as you see those lights come on you want to ring in as fast as possible.

KICK BAMA KICK

Didn't it used to be conventional wisdom that the lockout for buzzing in early was short enough that it was advantageous to simply mash the button as fast as you could even before the clue was finished?

That's the exact opposite of what I've heard

HookShot
Dec 26, 2005
Yeah that's not at all accurate, the lockout is 1/4 second and you will 100% get beaten by someone in that lockout time if one of the other two contestants know the answer (and 90% of the time, at least 1 of them will)

I kept ringing in too early in the first round of my second game especially and you can check out J-archive if you want to see how well that went for me!

They still have time for them to try out Levar. Maybe, and this is just me hoping, they’re like “ok we will get these bullshit ones out of the way and then we will go with our real choice of Levar Burton.”

I mean, I don’t trust anything at this point, but I can dream right. Right ?
