What's the deal with TV's under 32" with built-in smart features like Netflix or wi-fi ready not having digital audio out? It means that no matter what you have to use the cheap built-in speakers. I would love to create a petite netflix TV station with a small TV and small soundbar near my PC but it probably wont be happening

Twerk from Home posted:You could do the poverty-spec solution that I have on my bedroom TV! Those low-end TVs usually have analog audio out, which you can run to a T-amp and some speakers. I have this in my bedroom and it sounds way better than it has any business to: I do have the hardware for that, still bulkier than a soundbar, but if this doesn't work out I'd consider your idea and find a way to make more room But unfortunately the new Vizio smart TV doesn't even appear to have analog out, just in, and it otherwise seems to be "the" small smart TV option for 2014 http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-E241i-B...s=vizio+24+inch

Dr Tran posted:I think that TV has digital audio out via HDMI/ARC. So connecting to a soundbar via HDMI should work. Checked the online manual pdf, it can. Shame as the cheapest small (good) soundbase option is the ZVOX 220 which is optical only, and would require, at cheapest a 39 dollar hdmi-optical converter. I guess I'll call it off and just hope the TV's speakers are good, unlike the trash ones on my 2009 era 19" vizio

Well I was dumb So in total I got a 24" vizeo, an HDMI cable, a 38$ hdmi-spidf converter, and the ZVOX 220 sound base http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Premium-Audio-Extractor-Converter/dp/B00AHS8LD8/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t Hooked it all up and it did not work. HDMI to the splitter, selected Pass, 2CH and 5.1, turned off and on, checked optical to the ZVOX I am pretty bummed. I guess its something to do with HDMI fuckery, or the fact I just found out the ZVOX soundbase does not actually have a dolby decoder. Only the analog RCA to red/white works Basket of Kittens fucked around with this message at 00:42 on Jun 14, 2014 |

So what's the deal with this HDMI "ARC". Can it not do plain PCM out or non-Dolby signal with digital? Can it not be converted to SPIDF?

Aphrodite posted:According to HDMI.org... How infuriating. So if I were to hook the HDMI of the TV to this thing: http://sewelldirect.com/HDMI-toHDMI-Audio-Spdif-35mm-Extractor-Adapter-with-ARC.asp Which claims to have ARC, then run a SPIDF to the soundbar (running PCM since the zvox doesn't have a dolby decoder) it should work right?

I'm now in the market for something between 32" and low 40's due to limited space and close viewing distance (6"~ 185cm or so). I'm planning on doing an upgrade for an old 720p 32" sharp LCD, which was top of the line then but I want 1080p. 3 days of researching while slacking at work I've noticed the 40-42" range is kind of a quality and technical dead zone. Pretty frustrating, looking at A/V sites and reviews of must-have TV's, top 5 lists and all are pretty much all 50"+ range sets. A few options, all flawed in some way, inconsistent reviews. I just wish there was a 400-600 dollar 40"-ish TV that spent all that 400-600 dollars only on picture technology, refresh rate and input lag. Not smart TV stuff (can get a Roku 3 which I read is better), not 3D, not 4k Something that's odd is this TV, only one review (despite similar models by Vizio having hundreds), and a warning about inventory http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-E43-C2-43-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00SMBFP2W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426788197&sr=8-3&keywords=vizio+42 So far what I've made of the messy reviews: Vizio E series has problems, Wirecutter blog says hold off, rating dropped to 4.0 on Amazon Vizio M series 42" is top pick by CNET, consumer reports though says its below the others in motion and accuracy tests CNET didn't rank the Samsungs as highly, but Consumer reports puts them at top A lot of people say just get a Roku 3 instead of needing smartTV internally, but few say why. Next-Gen posted:You just happened to find the brand new 2015 version of the vizio e series, which is why it has no reviews yet. the 2014 models have a b in them after the dash. The only change appears to be 1" bigger and possibly 120hz refresh rate on them. Ah, only to make it more confusing. Now I have the M-series 2014 model which I want the most, but the newer 2015 E-series. The 2015 M-series appears to be a 4k though. It's hard to tell whether or not a year's change in model makes it better than an older M-line M-series 2015 manual out: http://cdn.vizio.com/documents/m43c1/um-m43c1.pdf
