I replaced the XL2500 lamp in my TV. I've done this twice before, can't believe its 6 years old. Anyway, this time, instead of replacing the whole housing unit, I replaced just the bulb. I noticed there is a lens in the housing that seemed to have some surface discoloration. Is this an issue? If this happens, why do they say its okay to replace just the bulb instead of the whole thing?

I don't know what the orange is. Is the right side just a hole?

Do you have an attic or a basement? When we did this at my dad's house, we ran it straight up the wall into the attic, across, then down the other wall. Because gently caress routing things sideways through walls, and especially around corners.

Doing this may or may not be allowed, please consult local building codes.

I'm looking for a TV in the 24"-32" range. I'm replacing a 20" CRT in my bedroom, and don't want to go smaller equivalent than that, and its a bedroom TV that gets minimal use so it doesn't have to be huge.

I won't have cable hooked up to this. Smart would be good, or I could always get a chromecast or something. Brand isn't a killer, unless someone's smart features literally blow everything else away. I'd be interested in not spending a ton on this.

Is there really a big difference between 1080p and 720p in this size?

I haven't bought a TV in 6 years. I don't know, Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Vizio?

Yeah I did see that. It would be on the high end for this. I mean, I saw Vizio for like $40 less, so why not get the Samsung? I'd probably get that Samsung, unless there's something reasonably decent for closer to $200.

I mean my main TV is a 50" Sony projection from 2007. I change the bulb every 2 years, I have a 2010 WDTV Live and a Chromecast plugged into it. It could use more than 2 HDMI ports, but I'm happy with how everything looks and works. If I can get everything in one package, I'll be impressed, but a dumb TV with a plugin that works a lot better for the same total price is more than fine with me.

My dad is looking for a 60" smart TV in the $1000 range. This is the physically largest size he can fit over his fireplace, which I already told him was a dumb place to put it. He has a 40-something inch Aquos up there now. I haven't bought a TV myself in 7 years, so I don't really know the ins and outs. Do I still have to worry about viewing angle? Are speakers reasonably the same? I'm sure he just needs to it to be smart enough to run Netflix and maybe Amazon Prime.

Any brands to particulary avoid?

Here are just a few I picked up off Amazon being well reviewed by people who bought them -

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-60LB6300-60-Inch-1080p/dp/B00II6VW9Q/
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN60H6350-60-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B00ID2HGQ8
http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-LC-60LE660-60-Inch-Aquos-1080p/dp/B00NM4589O

Am I way off the mark on these?

The 55" is the best value for size on rtings for under $1000 (there are a couple better overall quality picks under $1000). The 8000 is a lot better, and not too much more money (although I haven't seen a 70" one).

I had a 55" Sony 3LCD from 10 years ago up until I moved last year. I've been getting by on a 40" Samsung since, which is basically adequate, so I'm not going to make a move unless its big - 65" or better. The 70" KU630D is only $100 more at Costco than the 65", so why not?

But now I'm seeing the 65" online for under $1000. I guess the sale price at Costco for $1250 isn't the best deal.

But looking at the 65" KS8000 vs 65" KU6300, they have to be apples and oranges, right?

Do Samsungs have really bad tuners?

I had a 37" Vizio that I bought back in like 2007, never had any reception problems with it, even when I moved into this apartment a few years ago (brick buidling if that matters). After a few months I wanted a bigger tv so I bought a 50" Sharp on a while at Best Buy, and using the same "batman" antenna I used before, I got poor reception on a few channels and 100% lost ABC. I don't give a poo poo because football is only on CBS, Fox, and NBC. Sometimes I would have to move the antenna over to the end table or aim it a different way, but I have almost always been able to tune in those three channels and watch the game. I ended up buying a cheap powered antenna that looks like a flat black bar and have been using that.

About a year later, my girlfriend moved in and brought along her 50" Samsung. We tried using her tv but CBS is the only channel it would get. And then today I bought a 65" Samsung and it does the same loving thing. My old Sharp in the same place in the living room with the same antenna gets everything but ABC (including the local PBS and religious stations).

Do I have to go buy one of those $60 super antennas?

I have a 24" Sharp that seems to get channels when the weather is bad that my 40" Samsung doesn't on the same antenna. I really like that the Samsung tells me the name of the show and has a channel guide though.

In exploring the full range of autism, I've come full circle and back to the KS8000. I sit about 12' away from the TV, so 65" would be better. Problem is that it would look terrible with the rest of the room, while the 55" would fit pretty well with the overall design.

I consider getting the 55" now and upgrading later, but do you really see OLED prices coming down that much in the next couple of years when LG is really the only player in that area?

The $500 difference also seems to make the 55" a better value, but then there's the maxim of always buy bigger than you think.

Why would it look terrible?

We have this 1961 TV/Stereo console that's been hollowed out and is being used to hold the receiver and center channel speaker, and the TV is going to be on the wall above that. Looking at things, there really is no design to this room. We are still building things out after selling all of our stuff and moving across the country last year.

But this console is the centerpiece, and it stays, and I have no say in the matter.

So I'm in the "bad photoshop" phase of this, and haven't gotten to the "cardboard cutout" phase. I'm going with 65" (blue), 55" red isn't doing it. 40" orange is the current TV size.

We just need to put the speakers somewhere really. Those black tower speakers are going to be gone, I have the Polk bookshelf ones for the front channels. I don't want to hang them off the wall because they're 12" deep and would look weird hanging in space. I'm trying to find a couple of stands that look more like furniture, or a small shelving unit, rather than a couple of sticks holding up a speaker. I think if we can do that, then the 65" will work. If I have to put them on top of the console, or hang them out in space, it will have to be 55".

Does the KS8000 do 5.1 out of the optical out? My receiver is saying "Dolby Digital" when I watch stuff in the Amazon app on the TV, and when I watch TV over the antenna, but I haven't heard a sound out of my rear speakers. I don't know if there is something I can play through the TV to test this? Or if it just doesn't send 5.1. I know the speakers work, but it seems like I'm at best getting 3.1.
