Hello, I'm Phylodox. I do arts. You need arts? I will do arts for you! I will make ALL the arts for you!!!

You want samples? I have samples:

ILLUSTRATOR!!!

PHOTOSHOP!!!

Tom Waits is awesome!

NOT ON THE COMPUTER!!!

Okay, that last one was a little bit on the computer.

If you want, you can see all that and more on my ONLINE PORTFOLIO THAT I HAVE!!! Generally, I charge between $10-$25 per hour depending on how complicated the job is. If you just want me to do a quick sketch of your otherkin fursona then it'll be super cheap and I promise I won't judge you to your face! If you want me to do a super-detailed painting of your dog dressed up like he thinks he's people...well, that's gonna cost you. I have PMs, so you can send me your message that way and no one will have to know! Or you could use the contact form on my website, too, that's always fun!

I might be able to help you with this. You can email me at alan at phylodox dot com if you're interested. I've vectorized a few images in my time. You can check out my portfolio (http://phylodox.com) to see a couple of examples if you like.

Are you going to be paying for the pages or is this one of those "it'll look good on your resume" dealies?

Phylodox
Mar 30, 2006

College Slice
I mean, you say that, but the average comic page costs probably somewhere in the area of $200 to $400. That's usually with separate pencilers, inkers, colorists, and letterers. For one person to do all of that (and layout) themselves, you're probably looking at 3-8 hours per page (and that's a very uncomplicated page).

Phylodox

College Slice
Well, that's okay, because Alex Ross probably charges thousands of dollars per page.

Nobody's saying you won't pay. But can you honestly say you're willing to pay someone what their time is actually worth, here? You have a choice between either shelling out some serious cash, settling for some stick-figure drawings, or taking advantage of someone who doesn't know any better. I'm not making any accusations, but as someone who does this stuff for a living I don't assume anything vis-a-vis payment and I don't appreciate anyone else thinking I should. This is a job, not a hobby. Treat it with the respect it deserves.

Something Awful's great for that, really. There's so little bullshit as opposed to the dedicated freelancing sites I've tried (Guru, 99 Designs) where the client has you do a million revisions and then just abandons their posting without any consequence.

I stumbled across the sketchmob site and had the idea of having a friend drawn as his favorite warhammer 40k character for his birthday. Then it occurred to me I'd much rather have it done here. I however have no idea what kind of prices would be charged for something like this. Would 30-40$ be reasonable? Or am I way of?

That depends. "Drawn" is kind of a vague term. Did you mean a sketch? A caricature? A cartoon? Do you have anything you can point to and say, "Something like this"?

Phylodox
Mar 30, 2006

College Slice
Yeah, something like that would take...well, it would take me maybe seven to twelve hours. At $20/hr that'd be $140-$240. For $40-$50 you'd probably get something more along the lines of a good sketch or a more cartoonish drawing like these:

Maybe with some colour added, but nothing fancy.

There's also shipping to consider. The one time I shipped a painting someone commissioned I remember being surprised at how expensive it was. I think plain ol' Canada Post was somewhere around $150.

When you say you need someone to do inking for you, does that mean the penciling is already done? If so, how would you be transferring the artwork back and forth? Will you be physically mailing pages or scanning and sending digitally?

I should have been more clear, thanks for letting me know. I do need the penciling done as well. I'll update my post with that.

And how will the artwork be given to you? Are you going to need physical copies mailed to you or just digital copies? Also, I know you said money is tight, but did you have a tentative budget in mind?

Phylodox

College Slice
Yeah, that's pretty low for penciling and inking and design work (I'm assuming, since you said your last artist bailed after two character designs). Is there any way you could condense your pitch into fewer pages, maybe? Or is six pages mandated by your teacher?

I'm gonna go ahead and give the advice that's always given when someone asks for a tattoo design: find a tattoo artist you like and work with them. They'll be better able to tell you the limits and benefits of the medium and help you find a design that'll suit both your taste and their skills.

I'm looking for an artist to draw a D&D character for me. I have a ton of detail and previous commissions to help bring out the picture I want. I'm after quite a detailed style and nothing cartoony please. Also just so you know incase you have troubles with certain species, the commision will be of an Orc. I may also be looking for a background to go with it depending on the price!

Please PM me with an email address I can reply to you on and we can see if the price/style is what I am after.

Thankyou!

Do you have messaging? I don't see a "Message" icon below your post. Either way, I could probably help you out. You can take a look at some of the stuff I've done and see what you think:

I’m Looking for someone to create a 2 Comic book covers as a gift for my brother. The design could be as creative as you want I just have a few basic ideas on the layout of them. I would want one cover to be in the form of a superhero comic (I can include a picture of the comic book I have in my head if that helps). The other cover I would want to look more like a horror comic or maybe even an old horror movie poster.

Hey, I’d be happy to help you out with your project! If you’d like, you can check out my stuff here:
