I just got a bunch of blue velvet shrimp and I kind of have no idea how to take care of them. They've been doing fine in my planted tank with seiryu in it. Im wondering if the seiryu will be too much for them though in the long run. I just tested my water and tripped out when it went from 6.5 to 6.7 ph area to 7.4 to 7.6 ish after the seiryu went in I mean they seem ok, they're molting and getting along great with my 16 guppy fry that juat were born on Saturday. Is this gonna mess with them breeding? I kinda wanted to turn 10 into 100 with these guys theyre cool as hell. Also I have 3 bloody mary shrimp. If I put em in the same tank will they have blue or red babies or will it be like mostly ghost and wild colors?

These shrimp are all neos, ie they are colour varieties of neocaridina davidi so as long as your tank is stable they should be fine in pH higher than 7. Blue Velvet colouring, if the naming is accurate, come from blue and black coloured colour lines, whereas bloody mary shrimp come from brown colour lines. So I think you're more likely to get brown, black or other dark wild coloured shrimp if the two strains interbreed. That's if the colour line charts I've seen online are in any way accurate and the names you've been given are accurate. Ghost shrimp are a different species, not just a clear-coloured shrimp so you won't get any of those, and in any case I think it's unlikely that you'll get completely unpigmented shrimp from those breeding stock. I don't think it will hurt to keep those shrimp together as long as you have another tank handy to cull your unfavourable shrimp into - you remove the colours you don't like to the second tank, and let the colours you like remain in your breeding tank, keeping in mind that a young shrimp doesn't get full pigmentation until it's older. There's a fair chance that the blue shrimp will breed to other blue shrimp so at least some of your baby shrimp will be blue, but shrimp don't care about colour and are opportunistic, whichever male gets there first will try to do the deed when the female is ready.

If you keep the guppy fry in the same tank as your shrimp they'll sooner rather than later get big enough to eat the young of the shrimp and hamper any breeding projects you have in mind.

Useful info thank you

Like are any too big to be where they are where it'll mess with everything. Any specific tricks to get certain plants thriving. Stocking, too much? I don't know just wanted a few pointers or something. Also anyone know what kind of plabt that is with the five leaves and stripes in the shrimp tank.. My friend gave it to me he has no idea. I think it might be sometime type of cryptocoryne wendtii. Videos are a little long but I wanted to catch as much as I could.

It didn't seem to me that either were overstocked, but (for the most part) you can trim whatever gets too big or pull it out and re-plant it elsewhere.

I'm not sure which striped one you meant, but if it is in fact a crypt, they don't like to be moved so do that very sparingly.

I found this channel very helpful in learning about different plants, maybe it will help you too!

Edit: to mention gravel cleaning like every other betta I've had, he is very curious about it and I have to be very careful not to suck him up or accidentally decapitate him.

You ever try feeding him live brine shrimp? They chase em down and you can watch em eat em easy. Mine loves to hunt brine. The movement triggers em into eating right away. It is kinda annoying tho getting brine shrimp every 2 weeks or so tho. If u hatch baby brine they love that too. You just gotta stay on top of hatching every few days

Nothing seemed wrong until 3 days ago when I did a 50% water change before starting the treat the tank for my eye-infected angelfish. Yesterday I noticed the males chasing the female pretty aggressively but I figured she'd just drop her eggs and everyone would chill out. This morning she's dead. I wonder if they harassed her to death. I feel awful.

E: cool what an uplifting post for page snipe.

So I noticed that tetras like to spawn right after a water change. Like rainfall triggers it or some poo poo. They totally coulda harassed her to death. I have 2 males with a female in a small community tank. After water changes they chase her into a bush where they proceed to spawn. So it totally xoulda been that. My betta tends to chase em away and eat the eggs before anything else happens. It's kinda hosed up but its working and they don't harass my girl to death. So I let the tank go about its nature business.

I run hobs and sponge filters and while I prefer the hobs, sponges are pretty good at building up beneficial bacteria. I dont even run chemical filtration on any of my poo poo and I never ran into an issue stemming from that. Plus I always wonder if chemical filtration fucks with my fertilizers and poo poo. They tell you to take em out during med process so I feel like it filters fertilizers but I don't know. I always wonder if my sponges are actually doin anything or if they're just moving water I don't really see any build up on them ever but then again I clean my tanks kinda obsessively. Ddd fish behavior question for more experienced gourami keepers. On March 24th, I brought home 3 pearl gourami. Two boys and one girl. They're currently the only inhabitants in a heavily planted 40 breeder. They were shy for a week or so, but eventually came around and would hang by the surface waiting for food and eat brine shrimp straight out of a dropper. Everything seemed to be going well. They were healthy, eating and generally hanging out all over the tank.

Cut to 5 days ago, and they've suddenly become incredibly shy. Sometimes, if I come into the room too quickly, they'll spaz out swimming around the tank to hide. They spend all day at the very back of the tank underneath a large amazon sword or huddled in the back corner. Since they live in my office, I know they haven't had any traumatic experiences with people. Based on the glimpses I can get of them, they still look healthy. They're just always hiding. When I noticed the behavior, I checked the water and everything is normal, 0/0/5 nh3/no2/no3 76F with an air stone running constantly.

I've adjusted the light to give them a larger, dimmer space without any impact. I've considered adding my large school of CPD to the tank to provide some dither fish, but since things are a bit wonky in there I'm hesitant to make changes.

Anyone ever experience something like this? When I get a look at them, they don't look distressed, but getting a clear look is extremely difficult. I've managed to coax them out of hiding by adding brine shrimp to the tank, but as soon as they spot me they're straight back to hiding.
I have 2 gouramis doin the exact same thing. I figured my daughter mighta tapped the glass and scared em so I didn't think that much of it but this is exactly the behavior. My gold isn't as skittish but my blue hides and sometimes slams into the glass trying to get away from me. If anyone knows what's goin on im kinda curious as well.

I'm looking for a new fish to breed... Do you think there's a market for neons which are well bred and healthy?

They're such gorgeous fish, it seems almost criminal that the quality is so terrible

Neons are a little difficult to breed. Gotta trick em using ro water or rain water. Something softer than what you got established in the tank theyre in. U trick em by pouring in the water makin em think it rained. They usually breed early morning when the lights come on. Watch for them to "dance" over thick bushes of plants or moss. I get mine to breed but the babies are so small they need like infusoria or some poo poo. Plus my betta will never let the eggs hatch lately. He decided they are amazing snacks. This same tactic is good for rasbroas as well and cpds. But keeping the eggs and babies alive is the hardest part.

Also regarding tank crashes: I just had my 20 gallon crash cause my large gourami decided out of nowhere to terrorize everyone and stress deaths started happening, at least thats what I'm guessing since my water parameters were g. Lost 10 tetras, a yoyo, a platy and 4 corys. Once the first 2 tetras died everything else just started goin with them. Every other day I lost a fish or 2. I know how it is losing a load of fish all at once. Im sorry bud. Just try to keep observing and learning I guess. Also you really put a scare into me. I quarantine my fish for about 5 to 7 days before puttin em in. Now I feel like I should be waiting a lot longer.....

Edit: are mystery snail eggs supposed to be rock hard? I moved mine from my tank lid to an incubator and they were rock hard. I feel like I just killed my first clutch by letting em hang out on my lid for 1 day. They were so soft yesterday I didn't wanna touch em.
