Literally the first plot thing from Final Fantasy 7. I expected better from these people.

You must be new to TVTropes, then. Everything eventually connects to Final Fantasy 7 there. Or something written by Joss Whedon.

Their ideal fictional work would probably be Final Fantasy 7 as written by Joss Whedon.

Is anybody here actually prepared to explain what the original definition of deconstruction is?

Considering Derrida could never actually give a coherent definition (to the point that Michel Foucault accused him of being deliberately abstruse so as to deflect all criticism), it's pretty much whatever you want it to be.

He did claim there were things that deconstruction wasn't, and pretty much every use of the term on TV Tropes falls into that category. So there is that.

The Remains of the Day is a goddamned masterpiece that unfolds beautifully and devastatingly. Read it someday. The movie version starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson is also really good.

I checked out the page on the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl." This is the picture they use.

Have they seen Roman Holiday?

What's exceptionally pathetic is that the Onion A/V Club writer who came up with the term "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" (which is a loving stupid term, incidentally) used Holly Golightly as one of his examples. Right actress, wrong character.

Classic TV Tropes. So close, yet so far.

The closest I can think of is "archetype". Which doesn't entirely fit.

Honestly I think the best way is to say that when someone uses the same characters over and over they're just "[best known example of the character type] with the serial numbers filed off".

Reminder that Project Horizons is fanfic based off of My Little Pony/Fallout 3 fanfic. Also it's full of rape and pissing and making GBS threads with a lot more rape on the top. I know this because a sample was posted in an earlier TV Tropes thread and I will never ever be able to forget what it contained.

Hopefully I didn't miss it being said, but didn't Orwell himself say that the "The last part was written in past tense, meaning BB is eventually defeated" thing bullshit?

If Orwell did say this then Thomas Pynchon sure messed up when he wrote his foreward to 1984 a few years back.

Wait, The Lion King Adventures is just fanfic? What the gently caress? You don't need to sneak in adult jokes or whatever because there's nobody who would conceivably even want to stop you from writing whatever dumb poo poo you wanted. This is the worst thing.

Like seriously the way tropers were writing about it I thought it was like a Saturday morning cartoon spinoff or something. Jesus.

Everything is worthy of inclusion on TV Tropes. What's depressing is that the "no notability" poo poo was originally supposed to mean something like "don't worry about adding citations for a random episode of some show you remember from 1987 that featured a guy hiding in a phone booth or whatever". Of course this quickly spiraled into everyone adding their unwritten slashfic to every page on the site because tropers are horrible people.
