It’s fine, but I don’t like the WebKit monopoly on website rendering

It's certainly better than in the IE days though. Firefox renders most everything fine, I've only encountered a couple sites that refuse work properly and it's generally traceable to firefox's aggressive approach to privacy.. usually I can fix it by loosening the controls on cross site stuff. The only hard exception I can think of is icloud.com, I couldn't come up with a way to convince it to work.

I don't love the monopoly either, but calling Edge that is doing it a disservice. It also allows users to log into the browser to sync their settings with their Microsoft account, allows for seamless SSO for that, and lets you do some other neat stuff with Microsoft solutions. We'll be switching our default browser over to it from Chrome here pretty shortly.

If you want to give people the option of Chrome then force this extension down with a policy

We have some scary old web apps that are IE only. Like they launch their own network agent and basically disconnect you from your domain while you use them scary

I had to go on 8 hr, trip to sister location. This was planned in advance, they knew I was coming. My contact at the location was out Thursday and Friday. So I could not verify that the items needed had arrived. Monday morning guess what nothing had arrived.

Bonus: none of the industrial electronic supply companies in that city carried rs232 ( serial) cables or head of null modem cables. I had to spell out n-u-l-l modem and c-r-o-s-s-o-v-er cable.

Edge's market share went from 0 to more than Firefox's in like 6 months. I would expect to see pretty significant growth as Microsoft abuses their monopoly to push it further.

I wonder if the market share calculation included 80% of the users in small businesses I support who thought old Edge was just "the internet."

We still have a business critical (used to process orders for items costing €100k-500k) that only works in IE, forces you to change the security setting to “I trust this website website with the lives of my children”.

It uses ActiveX to find windows (Java)scripts that starts Word and uses word automation to type out documents for you. The web app is hosted on Windows Server 2003...

It finally getting replaced this summer!

I like how the naming of Edge obviously started from “we have to keep a blue E as an icon or else a ton of people won’t know how to go on the internet” and worked backwards from there.

In my days doing computer repair during the height of spyware, we’d often install Firefox on the computers of our “frequent fliers” and update the IE shortcuts to point to it but retain the IE icon.
