Now this is annoying.

Finally got to Yantar in Stalkersoup. So far having a blast, it's ridiculous how easy killing off the Cordon Military Bridge Checkpoint made the early game. Got an RPD off of the officer, so a fully automatic 76 drum round magazine machine gun for the early stages of the game makes things a tad bit easy.

So, the problem that I am having is that in Yantar, Professor Sakharov won't talk to me. F, and he just stands there blankly. Already killed all the zombies around the area, Kruglov is gone and nowhere to be found, and I really wanna buy NATO poo poo because, like it or not, NATO poo poo is a good deal more effective than Russian guns.

Re-enter the map. I honestly just use the teleport command so I don't have to run all the way to the exit and run all the way back. Also on that note about NATO poo poo, one of his quests gives you, hands down, the best gun in the game. And it's Russian. :v:

That's weird. When ever I had that problem, re-entering would always fix it. Yantar is one of the buggier areas, so you might need to reload an older save. Good thing Stalkersoup saves after basically everything I guess. v:shobon:v

Something to note if you install the Shoker mod. If you use the guys translation patch on his moddb, you need to install if over the base install, then install the Shoker patch. The reason why is that the patch is newer than the translation, and will crash if you do it the other way around. The items seem to still be translated, though I'm sure some of the other things arn't working.

Yeah, that mod needs to hurry up and come out so I can jam every weapon and see what it's custom unjamming animation is. Not even joking.

After playing Shoker for a bit, it really makes you appreciate the upgrade system in base CoP. 9x39 weapons are basically worthless because of how large the ranges are in CoP, and how much you need to compensate for bullet drop and travel speed, which is a real shame because of how much more powerful they are than other rounds. Also the base round is super inaccurate compared to its AP, while also not having the sniper round that most other calibers have.

The switching between scope and ironsights is really cool though, though there's not many weapons yet where it works. Beta and all. v:shobon:v

I've always preferred that bullet drop as I learned quite early to account for it, even out to ranges where you can barely see through the fog. The 9x39 guns tend to be almost 100% accurate, so all you need to worry about to score that quiet headshot is properly leading and ranging your shot.

The Shoker Mod changes the base 9x39 round to be 4 times less accurate compared to it's AP variant. Honestly, the mods weapons are kinda like the base game in that the G36 is the best all around weapon in the game. :v:

I'm playing Misery 2.1's beta as the sniper and I finally got to Pripyat. I did actually discover something likely that was causing crashes in previous making me unable to complete the game. When you order a custom gun from Nimble and Snag accuses you of it being stolen, I left it at that. If you confront people about it, Snag disappears like normal and the bandits spawn, but if you need to load any saves after Snag leaves, it crashes the game. :psyduck: I loaded from an earlier save and ignored it and its been fine since.

What is driving me a bit mad is trying to find the calibration tools. I looked in the usual spots in vanilla and where I think I saw them in 2.0. I'm pretty stumped on where to find any because this SEVA suit needs some air conditioning.

The calibration tools are not in Pripyat any more. They were moved to zaton and Jupiter, and also are different for the different classes. Snipers calibration for zaton is in the Attic of the house at the sawmill, under one of the supports

Is anyone familiar with Zone of Alienation? I wanted to try out a completely new mod for SoC and not use Oblivion Lost for the millionth time, and it seems ok so far, but I can't seem to reload unless my magazine is completely empty. Is this intentional?

Luckily, most of the mainstay weapons like AK's and junk have 2 types of magazines, and you can just press Y to reload between them.

ZoA is an interesting mod, though IMO the magazine reloading mechanic is complete garbage and it only seemed to work maybe a quarter of the time, while the game itself is extremely difficult, and that was only a short amount of time because it has to be one of the most crash prone mods I have played. Even STALKERSOUP crashed less.

So in Autumn Aurora 2 I found a stash with 1200 7.62x51 AP bullets. With the FAL you get from defending the rookie base from Mercs, I am now oneshotting everything from a chest shot. :stare:

It's ridiculous how much more effective this gun is than the AN94, which was taking like 10 AP bullets to the chest to kill soldiers, and like 20 to kill the Mercs.

e: FAL with the scope it comes with and a Saiga filled with slugs up close. Smoking dudes with one shot every time. :clint:

The only thing that really bothered me about misery is how good the sniper class is compared to all the others. Especially since they are better with shotguns than the other classes, so they have the best weapons for both dudes and mutants, which is hella stupid. You'd think the scout would be better with shotguns, seeing how they are supposed to be "close range specialists", and the sniper would have pistols.

Roobanguy
May 31, 2011

The only thing i didnt like about misery is the cost to buy some items, mainly suits, the damage you take from anomalies, and the health that mutants had. Also the AKM doesn't have working animations for some reason.

I never had any issues with people not dying when they get shot. A bandit hit in the head with a makarov always killed them for me. Now, shooting a bandit obviously wearing a sunrise suit in the chest? Yeah, he doesn't die very quickly from a makarov, but a dude in a rain coat will. And the same applies to you, when your running around in your jacket you take a shitload of damage, but once you upgrade to actual body armor and add some kevlar plates into the artifact slots, dudes with pistols/ak's and the like start having trouble doing actual damage to you. You'll still get slowed down when they hit you but most of the time i lost barely any health from them.'

The repair costs from the mechanics was to incentive's you to use the repair tools, which were magnitudes cheaper than repairing/buying a new gun, and i thought that was cool. Yeah, the game could of got rid of alot of the clutter items but that doesn't really affect anything IMO.

I'm doing a run where I basically don't use assault rifles, because they are too good all around and make it boring. At any given point, I'm either going to be carrying a sniper rifle, machine gun, or the KS-23, with a pistol as backup. .40 or .45 FMJ does a good enough job on bandits and other lightly armored enemies, but it would take an entire magazine to bring down an exoskeleton.

i played alot of the specialist for half life back in the day so i'd say go with 10mm

^ im also having that problem. the only artifact i found was from a quest reward.

so playing coc with arsenal overhual, is every gun not chambered in 7.62 or 9x39 supposed to be completely worthless against humans? even when im using armor piercing bullets with the ak74 or m16 it takes like 10 shots to down a dude if im shooting their chests, and these are for bandits. its even more ridiculous when im fighting dudes with actual armor like the military.

Maybe add in the new guns' ingame descriptions that they've been modified to use more easily available ammo.

Even though STALKER may have covered all the bases on guns/ammo I don't really think it did it in a way that feels realistic. I don't think the bandits get enough credit. They're realistically the number 1 link to the black market, so the bandits probably bring in most of the guns used in the zone. Any faction that's paramilitary would have to smuggle guns into the zone. Also I can bet that drug usage is way higher than the game gives it credit for... blow/meth/amphetamines would be highly desirable.
