A Buttery Pastry posted:Most importantly though, you definitely pronounced Heckler & Koch wrong. And yeah, Capcom knows what makes money but they also don't know how to gamble with new ideas either. They always try to keep it safe and familiar whenever they have sequels or new IPs and it really hinders their ability to evolve the franchises the have. You can see this with DMC4, where Dante gets muscled in for 8 missions just to backtrack through the entire game when he could've been that game's "Vergil Mode". Dead Rising 2 had promise, but the fan backlash must've shook Capcom to the core since OTR is just a giant middle finger to every new character in DR2. Also, I have something of a raid mode vid recorded, but its just solo runs. I wonder if I should post those or not.

Picked this up for rent today just to see if I liked it as much as I thought I would. It's nice you can jump into some Raid stages right off that bat, because that really is a lot of fun. And it has one of those things I was really, really missing from Resident Evil 6, which was weapon customization. Skills are okay, whatever; gun-modding is where it's at.

Last week's Raid Mode: (Raid Mode Stage 6, 7) Chapter 4: A Nightmare Revisited Chapter 4-1: Untimely Death, (Uncut Commentary), (Raid Mode Stage 8) Enemies The Wallblister -A new enemy for the HD Rema-OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Ghiozzo -Koi Fish mutated by the t-Abyss Virus. Their primary attack is running into you with their fangs out. They're a fish out of water in this chapter however. Zombie Racheal -Racheal's corpse after being infected by the t-Abyss virus, and this chapters boss! Very vengeful and sadistic despite her past bubbily nature. She's also a unique zombie, but that'll be explained later. Text Dump: Safety Procedures -Or: How to advance the plot while on a boat. Text Dump: Casino Staff's Report -I hope you read this for the puzzle thats 5 feet away! Text Dump: A scribbled memo -Or: Jesus christ, Wall Blisters are horrifying Text Dump: Mysterious Instructions -We just leave our nefarious plans lying around, enjoy! Text Dump: (No clues as to who left this note) -i.e.: Racheal's Obituary Chapter 5: Secrets Uncovered Chapter 5-1: Jackass & Grinder, (Uncut Commentary) Characters Keith "Grinder" Lumley -BSAA Operative and Quint's teammate. Specializes in melee combat with his double kukris. A very chill fellow who seems to get along with everyone. Quint "Jackass" Cetcham -BSAA's operative and resident tech-expert. He was actually the agent who created the Genesis scanner we use in-game. Very melodramatic, and prone to talking about movies a lot. BSAA Soldier -No one overly important but his VA is Patrick Seitz, famous for his roles as JP in Redline and Mondo Zappa in Killer is Dead. I just found it funny how Capcom perpetuates putting big-name VAs as soldiers. Enemies Hunters...? -They seem like hunters, but something feels off about them. Text Dump: (It looks like a piece of a manifesto) -Or: an introduction to Dante's Inferno

I just caught up to the Jackass and Grinder Comedy Special episode, and on the 360 you can totally scan and pick up the screwdriver before either character knows it's missing. All it does it skip the dialogue where they talk about losing it, so you can get to the security feed stuff sooner.

Yes, if you walk around with the scan tool out constantly you can get the screwdriver before its ever mentioned on PC as well. There is no flavor text for finding it earlier.

Highwang posted:Yeah RE:Rev HD is a bit strange. I don't think Capcom altered the wireframes all that much from the DS Ver, as seen in some cutscenes. I'd imagine that or just the desire to make Jill more alluring to draw customers is the reason for her model. The reason for her model changing is that she changed actresses. Jill was played/mocapped by Julia Voth in the REmake, Umbrella Chronicles, and RE5. In this and ORC, Voth is gone and has been replaced by... somebody else. Nobody quite seems to know who. As I said in Lunethex's RE6 thread, it's not that Capcom doesn't know how to innovate. It's that most of their big development names went indie or went to Platinum around 2006, and that they're one of the development studios that got hosed over by the Fukushima quake and the ensuing power issues. They're leaning very heavily on their tentpole franchises as a result, because they don't have the wiggle room at the moment to be as innovative as they've been in previous years. Even in 2013, they still took the major risk of publishing Remember Me, and that game sold something like sixty thousand copies in North America.

Lunethex posted:It's always sad to hear this Well, to be fair, this isn't to say they're in any real trouble. Monster Hunter is still a license to print money in Japan, Street Fighter remains popular, and they still have a lot going for them as a company. They've had a troubled couple of years, but compared to a lot of their competition they're doing quite well. Part of the problem is that Japanese development in general is in a transition period, along with much of console gaming as a whole, and another part of it is that we're still in a down economic period, which is the worst possible time to take any kind of creative risk. It's important to remember that many of the games that Capcom released during the heyday of their creativity, with Clover Studios going strong and the PlayStation 2 ruling the world, either didn't sell well (Okami, God Hand) or were poorly received (DMC2).

A funny side note on Julia Voth is that she apparently wanted to transition into a career as an actress rather than a model, so naturally, the acting gig she's most known for at this point is... Project SERA, a short film series starring Voth as a former soldier named "Gillian" who fights a military conspiracy surrounding a bioweapon that creates zombies. Whoops.

Chapter 5-2, Needlessly Stupid Machine, (Uncut Commentary) Chapter 5-3, The Midnight Sun, (Uncut Commentary), (Raid Mode Stage 9, 10) Enemies Sea Creepers -The result of the t-Abyss virus infecting a female host, turning it into a sort of swimming cockroach. Grenades, or more specifically the Shock Grenade, are the answers to these fellows. If you're out of grenades, Rifles are generally the better alternative in order to deal with them. An interesting thing to note is that apparently the t-Abyss virus is sex-dependent, which is why we have Oozes and the Sea Creeper. The weird thing however is that Racheal managed to get infected yet turned into an Ooze variant rather than the Sea Creeper model. This is because apparently much like the Pincer/Tricorne, the Sea Creeper is a unique mutation that only occurs in females and only occasionally. Text Dump: Steam Pipe Maintenance Report -An OSHA inspector's worst nightmare Text Dump: Memo Left in the Engine Room -Puns! Enemies The Farfarello -Hunter BOWs modified by injecting them with the t-Abyss virus, giving them invisiblity on command and also giving them an ANGRIER disposition. Though invisible, you often fight them in environments that give away their position anyway so they're not all that hard. The Genesis device and grenades can also reveal them temporarily. Also, though its hard to tell, they are slightly different from hunters. They have little feathers to distinguish them. Raid Mode info Quint Cetcham, Snow Gear skin -Shotgun Mastery 1: Shotguns reload 30% faster and fire 10% faster -Grenade Mastery 2: Grenade blast zone is increased 230% -CC Mastery 1: Melee & Execution damage increased by 130% Melee Attack: Horizontal knife swipe Execution: Claymore Mine. Affected by his initial trait and possible grenade & melee gun mods (Might need confirmation, haven't done extensive testing). Keith Lumley, Snow Gear skin -Machine Gun Mastery 2: Machine Guns reload 50% faster and fire 25% faster -CC Mastery 2: Melee and Execution damage increased by 160% -Melee attack: Double Kukri swings. Two hits. -Execution:: A Kukri combo. Hits 3 times if fully charged, but only twice otherwise. 100% badass. Zombie Racheal, Paid DLC (Thanks Toxsyl for showing this off) -CC Mastery 4: Melee damage increased 160% and Execution damage increased 190% -Regeneration 2: Recover HP super quick. Save on herbs today, become a zombie! -Melee attack: A quick claw swipe with her Dead Space-esque arm -Execution: Z. Racheal lurches forward and attacks by swinging her throat-parasite at the enemy. (Not shown in this vid. Oops) YMCA Sailor Chris Redfield (Thanks again Toxsyl) -Shotgun Mastery 2: Shotguns reload 60% faster and fire 18% faster -Rifle Mastery 2: Rifles reload 50% faster and fire 18% faster -Sailor Man: Using a herb makes you invincible for 3 seconds. A dandy perk! Same Melee & Execution as basic Chris

Just to clarify: There are two(?) characters that require you to get rare weapons in order to unlock, but I noticed when I bought a High Roller from the shop, it didn't count towards unlocking Jill's extra costume, but when I got a Drake to drop, it did. So to get the character that requires all rare weapons, all those weapons have to be random drops, right?

I figured I'd should say this now, but Julia Voth wasn't involved with the voice/mocap of Jill. Capcom just used her likeness. I can't remember who voiced Jill in REmake, but in Umbrella Chronicles and 5, she was voiced(and in 5, may have mocapped) by Patricia Ja Lee.

The melee centered characters are great to play as because of how melee works and how easy it it to stun things if you know what you're doing. It's pretty easy to end up not having to spend anything on ammo and just become a human meat grinder.

Wanderer posted:They do now. The original PC rev of RE4 is basically a war crime. Ah yeah thats right. Back in the pre-HD era, they had that problem since console coding was very unique per console and getting stuff on PC was a bit of a nightmare. Games like MGS2 and XIII were testament to that. With the advent of MT Frameworks (sp?) however, Capcom pretty much started making new PC Port standards. Between DMC4 and RE:Revelations, I'm really impressed with what they did. RE4's new not-ubisoft port looks good already performance wise.

I'm enjoying this LP. It reminded me that I bought the game during the steam christmas sale. I rather like raid mode compared to mercenaries which I could never really get into. I think it is all the weapon and gear collecting that really does it for me. I am curious as to what kind of guns you look for in raid mode though since they can come with built in bonuses or trade offs.
