Because change
So wait, does Element and Mitama fusion require cash up front like DS1? I know they cost 1000 macca for Elements and 3000 for Mitamas. But considering their uses, it's very much well worth the cost if you have the spare cash.

Yeah, they tell you the cost before you can even consider skills and stuff. I don't really pay much attention to it at this point since 1k or 3k is absolutely nothing.

New Game + ~ Tuesday's Disquiet

Not much overly exciting this time around, but we do start off by...

Getting the Compendium back. With this, our real crazy antics can begin. Not so much this time, but I do have plans. Big ones.

This guy doesn't really tie into them though. Sleipnir and Grendel are what give us a Vritra of our own. We've seen a few in the last battle on the previous route, so we know they're nothing overly amazing. More than efficient enough for what we need it for right now though!

....Just realised that yet again I forgot to buy back Grendel to actually use. Dude's actually not that bad but I just keep sticking him in fusion fodder limbo. Because I am a dumb.

Vritra and Nata Taishi combine to give us a Behemoth. In this instance, it's a Behemoth that somehow isn't a colossal liability no less.

If you're curious, his initial Agility? 9. This is actually buffed from Devil Survivor 1 were it was 7!

We don't have overly much new to do this time around, but there is some scenes to do at the start. We skipped over 'em before just to make it easier to do Ghost Q without incident.

Pretty sure this location is actually even unique to this one scene.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

You find Io helping JP's tend to the wounded...

This is horrible.
...Yes. That's why I felt like I had to do what I could...
Oh... You needed me for something, right? Would you mind waiting just a bit?
No problem.
Okay, good. Thanks...

Io goes to put down what she was carrying and returns...

Sorry for the wait... Um, has something happened?
We're going to Nagoya.
...Hm? Ah...! S-Sorry, Hibiki! Hang on a sec!

[Music: Silence]

Mom? Mom! Is that you!? It's me, Io...!
A-ah... I-Io?
Are you her family? Come with us, please. She's critical...

[Music: Requiem]

She said my dad... died from his injuries. She said...
Why is this happening...? This is...
Let it out.
...I won't cry. I won't cry.
But why...? Why does this have to happen...?
Why did they have to die...? My mother and father...

...... Sorry, Hibiki... You needed to talk to me?
It can wait.
......!
Sorry... Hibiki! Thank... you...!

You leave Io to herself and walk away...

Fought Ghost Q last time. Not worth the hassle of doing it again, so let's go see what's up with Joe this time around.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

Hm...? Oh, hey, Hibiki. Haha, sorry for spacing out.
Thinking about something?
Ahhh, kinda. Turns out there's a lot of stuff I need to think about...

I need to talk to you.
Hm...? Whaddaya mean?

You explain to Joe about the group going to Nagoya...

Haha... Nagoya, huh? That's some hand fate's dealing me...

You don't want to go?

Yeah, we already knew this but we could've learned it before even going to Nagoya in the first place.

Some stuff happened between us... So, like, I really don't want to be there.
Daichi, though... We're meeting in Shinbashi, right? I'll be there on time. Is that okay?
That's fine.

You part with Joe and leave the area...

[Music: Exploration]

Speaking of Nagoya, we've gotten nothing at all to do until we go there.

Even still, we don't really have much to do that's new for quite a while.

Like, we turn up, help out Airi and Jungo, get his death clip...

Beat up Botis, free Fumi from Alcor's minion and brainwashing, get the memory, save Jungo...

Get Daichi to... Fate 4... jeez, he ranks up insanely fast.

Beat up Ronaldo at JP's base in Nagoya, Phecda drops in and thanks to Behemoth and Vritra he gets destroyed on the first turn.

So, now we just have a long time to spend hanging out with dudes. We never did this second scene with Joe before. Let's do it now.

Hey, Hibiki. How are you feeling?
I haven't been to Nagoya in a while, so I've gotta see everything.
I used to come here a lot with my girlfriend, too.
Used to?

...Didn't I tell you? I'm from Nagoya, though I don't come home very often.
H-Hey, Joe...? Is that you?

A man comes running up to Joe...

You...! So you were in Negoya for everything!? I'm so glad you're safe...!
Yeah, well. It's good to see that you're okay, too.
I can't believe we're having a reunion here!

It seems this man is Joe's friend. They're both happy to see each other...

What have you been up to in Tokyo? You never called, so I was worried about you.
Sorry. I was busy with work and stuff. Our company's been really busy.

Well, I mean, my job...

[Music: Elegy]

Wait, what?
......? Haven't you heard anything, Joe?
Oh... Right. Yeah, things aren't looking pretty.
......

...... You need to help her. She's been wanting to see you.
...Well, I've got to go. I'm supposed to be meeting someone. See you again!

Joe's friend leaves...

You didn't know?
Uh, no... Not really.
...... Well, at least Kacchin's safe.
Well then, let's go. Haha...
......

[Music: Exploration]

For once, this Fate rank up actually did happen after this scene. Nice bonus there.

Rest of the day is nothing but scenes we've seen before at one point or another.

I'm just prioritising them right now based on people who we never got to Fate 5 before (mostly). If that means we end up with like Airi but Otome not even in the party then, eh, so be it.

...Neglecting Ronaldo this time around did lead to getting to show that we have to at least find out about his completely wrong suspicions.

We already know that Yamato didn't actually kill Dera-Deka but he might very well have tried.

There was some actual proper new content available on Tuesday, but we can't actually do it yet. It's the one we have to buy from the not-Grade store at the start of a new cycle.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

I kinda put together a rundown of the stuff you did today...
Well? Wanna hear it?
Let's hear it.
Ho-kay! Well then...!
First you woke up like usual, right? And then you met with Mako-Mako again...
That's when she dropped the bomb: Daichi went missing in Nagoya!

They call themselves JP's, but they're no good, if you ask me.
Oh, and Io got to see her mom!

What else... Oh, you went to Nagoya! And met guys like Airi and Jungo!
I'm so glad Jungo made it out in one piece!

Seriously, what was that about? You sure you did the right thing?

But then Phecda got in the way so the two of you teamed up to send his rear end packing!
It was cool! Dubhe, Merak, Phecda... Bam-bam-bam! Three up, three down!

Think he's right...? I bet you'd be rilly bummed out if he was!
Well, I think that about sums it up!
Okay, then! Have a nice wheeee!

because she came looking for me... It's not easy to accept that my parents died because of me.

I'd have fallen apart completely if it weren't for you. I'm glad you were there for me.

Well, tomorrow is another day.

Io's bonus e-mail here is pretty obvious what it's for. Have to both go see her mom die and then talk to her about it at Nagoya. We only did the latter last time.

Wednesday'll have some actual new content, honest.

So I picked up my old ng+ save not long ago and went into Al's route. It is honestly surprisingly hard to get out of the Ronaldo/Joe fight with Magic Yin; I keep killing the both of them by complete accident and ending the fight. :argh:

Technically true, everyone else needs overall fewer events to get their rank up. It's just that if you're actively hitting Daichi's scenes he's got a LOT of them.

Nah, that's Io by far. Getting her to Fate 4 requires ~180 points (her 5 is 200 exact I'm pretty sure); getting Daichi to Fate 5 requires 150. Daichi's is still relatively high compared to most people, but he's like maybe third most with Joe in second. Makes sense those three would be the highest since they're around basically the entire game, really.

This Tico really is the best for a second run. When you're effortlessly flying through every map obliterating everything sometimes you want the recap to essentially be "wahey, you blew up all the baddies, nice one".

And then you hit the bonus maps that actually have challenges. I don't remember them exactly, just vague details and that they were mean. Dunno if I even did them all again in the end, think I'll go dig this out and give it a spin again.

I remember that I did actually win the bonus maps, but can only distinctly remember doing one of them. Because that one is hilariously broken if you have the right set-up and I really hope Dragonatrix shows it off. :allears:

KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
Wednesday's Changes ~ Valgate of Eden

So, once again we'll throw some more fusions in at the start. Wrap up two levels this time around since 67 only has the one demon.

66 brings us the fusion of Purple Mirror and Suzaku in Fenrir. Fenrir's main thing is that he is fast and can either be a spellcaster or a quickpuncher without much of a care one way or the other. Spellcaster was marginally easier since I already had the materials onhand. :v:

Not like we need to be picky any more anyway. Behemoth and Anzu gave us the Yamata-No-Orochi who's meant to be Str/Vit but his materials work better for improving his dire agility. And he gets up to speed really fast too.

Anat is our last level 66 beauty and she comes from Fenrir and Titania. She's nothing particularly stellar compared to Fenrir but she is a good Femme so it works out nicely.

Level 67's only demon is Oumitsunu (Orochi + Behemoth); Jungo's Fate 5 contribution. Very transparently meant to be Str/Vit even more than Orochi was. Improving his dire speed was also easy to manage so it doesn't really matter.

So we beat up Megrez's first bud and we can already see a new scene with Daichi. Might as well.

[Music: Exploration]

You want me to fight demons? All by myself!?
Yes, we just received a request for help. Can you do it?
Oh, uh, but I don't think I can do it alone...
We don't have the manpower. I'm asking you for help.

Y'know, it's weird but Daichi does totally outclass Hinako right now. It's not even an "overlevelled" thing; dude just has slightly more Agility than she does. :v:

Gah... I can't say "No" after that... Hey, Hibiki!
My best friend! You want to help me take on some demons?
Sure.
Yes! I knew you'd agree to help!
Oh, uh, sorry, Shijima... I was going to ask Kuze to do a different job...

All right, fine. I'll go it alone, but anything happens to me, you'll come help me.

Makoto's cell phone rings.

Good, so you made it. Does that mean the Shinjuku area's good as well?
Oh, I see. Thanks for your hard work. ...Are there any wounded?
Wounded...?
...All right, I understand. I'll have the treatment rooms open. Hurry back.

Makoto hangs up.

A nearby JP's member took care of what I was going to ask you to do.
You too, Kuze. The job I had for you has already been taken care of.
Oh... really? Yay!
I apologize to the both of you for keeping you.
...Huh? Oh, it was nothing!
Oh, yeah! You were talking about wounded on the phone... Is it because I took so long?
Oh... No, we can't blame any of this on you.
Don't worry about it. This is our job. Well, I have to go.
......
Hey...! Hey, wait!
......? What is it, Shijima?

I don't really like having to deal with demons or riots or whatever, but...
...Thank you, Shijima. You're a great help.
Can I ask you to take a truck to transport some food?
Oh, a driving job? I can totally do that!
Well, I'll send you a text with the details later. I'm counting on you.

Makoto walks away...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

Makoto denied it, but do you think it would have happened if I'd gone right away?
Nothing to be done.
Hm... Maybe. But did I disappoint Makoto...?
Of course, I want to help out, too!
But if someone else was more capable, and could do it for me...

Daichi smiles, but seems conflicted...

For the sake of the Fate events after The Anguished One smokes the next Megrez bud in the cutscene, we'll keep things consistent so far and go do the morally right thing one last time.

Skip ahead to when its relevant now, and we'll go see what's up with Keita.

[Music: Exploration]

...Tch, it's you. They told me I had to come to Tokyo for a physical. How stupid.
Does it matter if I'm healthy or not at a time like this?
Why wouldn't it?
Because no matter how healthy you are, you could die any moment. Just how it is.
I'm a boxer. I need to watch my health to stay competitive.
Are you a pro?

I was going to go into that stadium as a pro, but those monsters appeared.

Keita stares at the Bugeikan again...

Taking on the world?

...It's not like I live for boxing. It's just one step in making myself stronger...
A battlefield with me on one side, the demons on the other... That's what I want.
...Tch. I'm saying too much.

Keita walks away...

Hey look, Keita's already breaking new ground! It's amazing. :v:

We'll skip ahead a little; let Joe troll Daichi again of course. Already seen Joe's reaction to that little event, so we'll see what Daichi has to say about it.

[Music: A Moment of Rest]

That was close! They almost found out!
Joe almost gave us away! And he was doing it, too! I really don't get him...
Who knows what trouble I'd be in if the found out... Man.
They'll execute you.

I fail at seeing anything while peeping, I have to lie about it... Being bad bites.
How can I get past this with no one finding out...?
Tell everyone you're gay.
Huh... I might get away with it if I said I was in love with Yamato.
......No. That's too risky.

I think I'll just try staying quiet for a while...

Daichi seems sorry...

[Music: Exploration]

Now we're skipping quite a fair bit ahead. We've got the terminals up and running again, had the meeting about how we plan to deal with Megrez later in the day and dealt with the JPs and civil unrest over by Bickman in Osaka. We're just killing time at the moment so let's do the sensible thing and go see Keita some more.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

Hey, Keita, what was that just now!?
...What was what?
We agreed that I'd take the demons on the right, and you'd take the ones on the left!
......
Why would you go after both sides!? It's much safer if we work together!

You can't keep thinking like that! What if something comes up that you can't deal with?

What if they had Phys Repel?!

Yeah, right. Don't pretend you and I are the same.
H-How dare you! You cocky little...
Calm down.

How did your parents raise you!?
I wish I could tell them a thing or two!
...What?
...N-Now what?

Uh... Oh.
I-I'm sorry. I take it back. But still, your attitude's...
You don't understand, you little idiot.
...Huh?
I'm thankful for them. It made me tougher. ...Being alone makes you strong.
Uh... If you don't have family, you could at least have some friends...

......

Hinako sighs and walks away.

You too, Hibiki. Don't start anything you don't intend to finish.

Keita walks away in a foul mood...

[Music: Exploration]

Man this would be nice if it wasn't completely and utterly irrelevant at this point.

Berserker is a nice demon... on a first cycle. And to make it even more weird, Keita technically has two Fate 3 demons because Berserker is the only Fate demon that is a mandatory component in a fusion; because of how Heroes work, the level 39 one needs Berserker.

Might as well keep this train rolling and see what's eating Airi next. Never did do this scene either.

Oh, I know this place! It serves those great crepes, right?
Yeah, but... how would you know? You're from Osaka.
I saw them on TV the other day. I wish I could have eaten there before... this.
Oh... I don't think you could, Hinako.
Huh? Why not?

Hinako's smile glazes over...

[Music: A Moment of Rest]

Don't start pissing me off. I was in high school just last year.
YOU'D stick out, Airi... You look like you're in middle school!

Airi furrows her brow...

What!? How dare you! You're the one plastering on all that makeup!

What!? I don't eat crepes! I've never ever been here before!
Why not? Didn't you say it was where all the high school girls go?
Uh...
You could come here all you want after school or on weekends...
Hrgh...
Oh, I got it! You don't have any friends!
...!

...I don't care! I don't need friends from that stupid school anyway!
Huh? Why are you calling it stupid? What happened?

[Music: Exploration]

...Ai, you shouldn't be saying things like that.
I'm sure you've got things on your mind too, but you can't push people away like that...
Shut up, stupid! Nagoya's off-limits to you now! Don't come back here again!

Hey, Hibiki! Ban Hinako from Tokyo!
Okay.

You guys...
What? This whole thing bothers you, anyway, I know it! Now scram!
H-Hey! What is wrong with you...?

Airi chases Hinako out...

Life's about disappointment.
Wh-What? Is that supposed to comfort me? I quit piano. I don't regret it. Whatever.
Gah! You're pissing me off! You're banned from Nagoya now, too! Now get out!

Airi harasses you until you decide to leave...

...Okay, we've past enough time. Let's finally deal with our first New Game+ boss that is a boss fight. The Original Wife does not gently caress around.

Sounds fun, don't it!

[Music: Dark Clouds]

Lilith... I would give my life for you. Just say the word!

[Music: Countdown]

Oh, who are you?
Are you saying you want these men to return? That's simply impossible.
No man can resist my charms, and these boys will never regain their right minds.
That is, unless you defeat me... I wonder, can you do that?

[Music: Desperate Situation]

Okay, so this fight on paper seems REALLY difficult. It kind of is because everything here is seemingly on par with last day enemies or better. All the human enemies here have end-game autoskills including Null Auto, Pierce + and one particular rear end in a top hat has Magic Yin.

Even with that, you're not liable to die to the random dudes. No, one in particular has Rage Soul, Double Strike and Attack All; he will probably kill himself on a Reflect Phys demon.

Lilith herself is kind of an irritating gimmick. Temptation is technically a Curse elemental auto skill, unique to Lilith in this fight, but it ignores Null Curse (at least on Human Males; not sure about everything else offhand).

Beyond that she has nothing particularly stellar and wastes two of her passive slots on defending against Physicals and Almighty. Whatever.

She has 2600 HP for what its worth. That's less than some end-game bosses we've fought but still quite a fair bit.

Biggest quarm I have with this map is that because it takes place in the Valgate you need Phantasm and/or Flight in some form to even get near Lilith.

In part this is due to that giant deadzone in the middle of the map. In part it's due to the enemy humans inevitably boxing you in and being stuck having to kill or be killed. Kind of an invisible time limit like that.

It also works in our favour somewhat by having this random dude try and pick a fight with Diachi. Who I had setup to run into this guy's line of fire anyway.

He's the guy with Pierce + but he never uses it. Instead he wastes his turns casting Paral Eyes all the time :v:

Oumitsuni with a Power Hit can oneshot these level ~70 Lilims.

They could Maziodyne if they wanted to hit Daichi's Null Elec. Instead she just Paral Eyes' and hits Daichi's Null Curse.

This random Salaryman is kind of an rear end in a top hat. He has Magic Yin, Megidolaon, Mana Aid and Extra One. Guaranteed double Yin'd Megidolaons and he gets some of that MP back.

That would be worrying if he had the MP to pull it off. One Magic Yin'd Megidolaon at this point is still loving terrifying.

Positioning gets quickly sorted out thanks to Hibiki having a Suzaku. That done, Daichi's putting his Fate 4 to good use and I'm actually using SDTP for the first time this LP. And like my fourth time ever.

Sending Oumitsunu to Hibiki in lieu of the Suzaku he had. Doesn't need that now and it's kind of a liability. Plus actually using SDTP means that I can do both Evil Flow and Agitate this turn; can't pull from stock and Agitate on the same turn.

Agitate and Evil Flow gives a ton of crits and no need to worry about range.

[Music: Shudder]

Temptation goes off regardless. I would imagine Null Auto may be able to stop it, but that requires Hibiki to have stat points in something other than Magic to use. And he doesn't have stat points in something other than Magic.

Ah well, it only procs on Hibiki at the very least. I think Vritra and Oumitsunu's regular resistance helps mitigate its chance to succeed, or at least it feels like it.

Oumitsunu and Vritra both Deathbound. Oumitsunu hits thrice and they all crit. Agitate is loving bonkers.

Vritra only hit twice. If he hit three times, Lilith would already be dead.

Instead, she gets to survive. With 104 HP left.

If she was a lower level, or Vritra hit thrice too, this wouldn't have happened. I am irrationally mad at random chance.

Appropriately enough, her charmed white knights will turn and run to her aid at this point. Even this guy who has no business doing so normally will now head on over to where Hibiki is.

Or rather they will try to. And fail miserably, because Lilith actually opted to move. Bad idea, lady.

Gave Hibiki Grace to see if it would proc after Temptation. No dice; it goes first. At least it heals Vritra and Oumitsunu back to full.

Oumitsunu outspeeds Lilith and punches her once. Dealt 50 more damage than she had remaining (if not, it would've hit more because Multi-Strike).

11.4k EXP isn't too shabby for something like this, but I dunno. Feels a little low.

Hibiki only gained two levels out of it, but that's exactly enough to give him 40 Magic so I guess I can't complain too much.

At the end of the day, this fight is actually kind of hard because the regular enemies are functionally unkillable. Shame too, because the game mocks you with those insanely good cracks.

Which we, uh, already have. Oh well.

I couldn't even begin to imagine trying this without an Avian; that added move is what makes them better than a Genma here in my opinion. True Phantasm would be nice for getting a second person across the map quickly but it's not really worth it.

Since it was functionally a free battle, we still get no bonus EXP out of this. Sucks.

Oh yeah and now we can fuse Lilith, the top-tier Femme, at level 83. Or rather, it would be level 83 but levels are a meaningless concept when it comes to fusion now. Can do it whenever. Won't do it just yet though.

Now we're just killing time and hanging out with people again. Lilith was the big event of the day this time around, and she's been nicely dealt with.

Joe's rapidly catching up with Daichi on the Fate list. He was at Fate 4 by the end of this day beforehand too.

With Io now at 3, we can fuse Hathor proceed to ignore her unless we want her back in the party after alignment shenanigans. She ain't dying now at least.

History repeats and Joe hits Fate 4. This is kind of a contextless montage of Fate levels I realise.

Kind of gonna be a thing in general; maybe in the future I'll just truncate it down further to highest ranks gained on a day.

Probably even combine days when they run out of new poo poo to do quicker. Which they will; next cycle will probbaly have even less.

Oh and yeah, going to see Alcor before fighting Megrez proper is mandatory.

Megrez is still slow and shite on NG+. Can't one-hit him because of his dumb gimmick. Megrez sucks.

Kind of rethinking my initial assessment of liking him a little more than Benetnasch. At least Benetnasch's gimmick was interesting.

Megrez is just a big spiky ball. And an unfun one at that. Benny at least had some good scenes around him, and a cool fight concept.

Don't even remember why I thought he was worse to be honest. Just remembered it being harder than it really was, for some reason.

Oh good, I can stop filling in for meaningful contributions with my semi-rambling now. Other stuff I could've glazed over instead was: Ronaldo's thing never changes, so we'll skip the video he stole. Dudes trying to rob Io and Daichi get their asses handed to them exclusively by Io and Daichi. Nothing particularly exciting.

Let's just go see what Tico has to say.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

I kinda put together a rundown of the stuff you did today...
Well? Wanna hear it?
Let's hear it.
Ho-kay! Well then...
First you woke up! Then you met with Daichi and them.
You talked about finding out more about what's happening in the world!

Thennnn, you guys tackled one of Megrez's buds!

Oh yeah! What did you think of His Excellency?
I got my fingers crossed you get to be super best friends with him! Whaddaya say?
Then Yamato called you out to Osaka! You know, for that Megrez meeting thing.

Ahahaha... Didn't it seem like Yamato got rilly annoyed by His Excellency? What a goof!
Oh, that reminds me. You used the Terminal for the first time! You're good at it!

Oh, hey, you probably know this already...
But don't you think JP's and the civilians are at each other's throats? Look out!

It's not like there's enough food or medicine for everyone. People are fighting over it!
Seriously, what's he gonna do? Is there anything JP's can do about this mess?
Oh, and then! You saw ol' Joe's death clip.
You're lucky Joe's still alive! Good work with that!

You're soooo cooool! And rilly strong!
Oh, but what about that photo of Fukuoka that Ronny got from JP's?
Could it be real? If not, it has to be fake, right?

No new e-mails this time around; we already saw this day's extra bonus ones last time. It was Joe accidentally sending us one meant for his girlfriend and then apologising.

I just find it hilarious that Daichi is almost willing to go along with the MC's idea then realizes there's no way in hell he could pull it off. Some of the characterization in this game is actually pretty good, even if some of the characters aren't that interesting on the surface like Keita.

KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
New Game + ~ Thursday's Shock

As usual, we'll start off with more fusion stuff. I could (and arguably should) just skip to the really good stuff but eh. These levels exist for a reason, and I do want to fill in the compendium anyway.

And not just because it's nearly at 80% done.

We'll start off by combining Oumitsunu and Arioch to make the penultimate Genma. Jarilo is mostly nothing too spectacular (insanely good potential Str/Agi antics aside), but that Holy Strike is a special skill we'll see a better use for later.

Keep the penultimate theme going, and make the penultimate Vile this time around by combining Jarilo and Behemoth. Tezcatlipoca's initial Attack All would be insanely cool if I could put it to its true use. Alas, he's stuck just punching all dudes pretty decently. Not much else for it.

A pattern swiftly created is equally swiftly broken via Tezcatlipoca and Anat. Mot is nowhere near the top-tiers of Tyrants; he's only just in the second half. The game showers you with these things.

Bring it back for one last creation. Oumitsunu and Jarilo make Barong who's the penultimate Avatar and the only demon here we won't be using. (for those curious it's here that I hit exactly 80% compendium completion)

Dude's rather vocal about his vendetta with Rangda. She only mentions it when fusing her away. They both agree with one another that they are mortal enemies.

Let's do the sensible thing and stick 'em together via demon fusion.

...For the ultimate Omega. :getin:

In just about every SMT game, Shiva is the result of fusing Barong and Rangda. This combination is almost always the sole way to fuse him at that (like it was here). Shiva's very much above the levels we'd normally be fusing at this stage, but I figured we might as well have a little bit of a treat.

Also it makes Thursday kinda silly that we're running around jumping through hoops to summon Shiva despite him already being in our phone. :v:

Also as usual, we'll spend this morning with Keita (albeit in this case it's after Alioth already turned up). And here's where Keita's scenes get a bit different.

Every scene from hereon in has Jungo in it. Naturally this is not possible if Jungo dies. To make up for this fact, Keita gets wildly different scenes in that case rather than them just stopping.

...So, yes, at some time in the future Jungo is going to have to die. I don't like it any more than you do.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

You... What are you trying to do? Who asked you to help!? Huh?
Hm... I just...
Shut up, rear end in a top hat! I was killing that demon!
What's the matter?
I was fighting a demon when this idiot butted in.
But it's dangerous to fight alone...

So don't you dare come around me and...!
......

Jungo holds a chawanmushi out to Keita.

What...?

Y-You jackass! Whose fault do you think it is that I'm so pissed off!?
...? You don't want it? It's cold, but it's still delicious.
Tch... This is ridiculous.
You're my comrade. That's why I'm going to stay.
...!
Say that again!
Hm? You're my com--

Keita glares sharply...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

We're teammates.
Don't be ridiculous! I don't need to make friends. Don't make me kick your rear end.
Tch... Everyone...

Keita looks away from Jungo...

Keita walks away...

Keita...

Jungo watches Keita leave...

Since the music doesn't actually change back here, might as well follow up and see more Keita.

Just be glad we're getting it out of the way now; he can be ignored again once we're done.

......

Jungo sits beside Keita, watching him silently...

......

Keita stops punching the bag and glares at Jungo...

Huh? I'm not doing anything.
I don't like your attitude. You look like your entire life has been peaceful. Sickening.
I told you before, stay away from me. If you get in my way, I'll...

...HUH!?
You and me are similar, Keita. Right, Hibiki?
You're like twins.
Are you blind, or just stupid?
You've got to be kidding... We're entirely different.

[Music: Elegy]

...Huh?
I was in an orphanage all my life... Just like you.
......Tch. Who'd you hear that from?
But I was never alone.
The orphanage headmaster, friends at school, my head chef, the other chefs...

......
We'll be your friends, Keita. Me and Hibiki.
......
That's right.
...I've had enough of this. Friends? Are you kidding me?

That "friend" was trash, but so was my father in believing in him...
If you can't live without clinging to other people, you don't deserve to live.
...!
I'm done talking about this, understand? Now go away.
......

...What?

......
You're wrong...!

Jungo walks away...

...Huh!? What's with that idiot...? How am I wrong?
You're screwed up.
Hmph... I'm just a realist.

Keita throws the chawanmushi away and walks off...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

Back to the usual affair of skipping ahead through stuff we've seen before. Getting Hinako and Airi to do their actions needed to bring back Kama and Shiva.

Or we could just spend the macca and buy spares from the compendium. Be easier.

In between their fights, might as well see what Airi has to say about... things.

Hey, Hibiki! What is up with him!? He makes me soooooo mad!
Kama?

[Music: A Moment of Rest]

Yeah, him! What's wrong with him!?
He took forever to show up, and then he made fun of me! I'm seriously pissed!

Must not be sexy enough.
Huh!? But I did my best!
How could I not be cute enough! It can't be!
Other people are the same! Like...

Yeah.
Right? Being normal's the best thing, like me.
...Then, how about Io?
She's cute, but she lacks that edge.
I agree.

Okay, that's enough agreeing with Airi for fun. Time to mess with her a bit...

...What about Fumi?
She's a freak. Just being near her is enough to tire you out.
Yeah, I bet she's freaky.

...What about Otome, then?
She's so nice. I can see her getting stuck with some loser.
Like Daichi, huh?
Oh, that's perfect. Well, her niceness is gonna be her downfall some day.
What about Makoto?
She's like the perfect human being.
Isn't being that perfect a huge weight on anyone's shoulders?
She only looks perfect.

Urgh... I'm getting tired. Complaining isn't going to do anything for me anyway.
Whatever! I've got so much potential! You wait two or three years, and you watch!

Airi seems supremely confident...

Airi's Fate rank up here actually did come from that scene. Now to skip ahead some more...

Otome gets a rank up from saving her life, of course.

And then again basically immediately afterwards from Fate scenes.

Rest of the day is basically just more Fate stuff by the by.

Thursday DOES have a bonus boss, but it requires you to buy Tuesday's because its special.

Tuesday's boss purchase thing is kinda misleading that way. Cover that more on the next cycle though.

Oh, remember this fight? Probably not. It's against some random schmucks after we kick Alioth around a bit. Notable solely for being the only fight we've seen to come up after that day's Septentrione fight.

Well, it's not really a challenge. But it does let us get Ban Curse.

...Which would've been nice to have last update. Mentioned in-thread already, but this stops Lilith's Temptation from working.

Battle Aura was just to fill in the slot, so I get all the skills. Because there's an achievement for it, and I guess I'm semi-determined to get them all?

Ah well, let's see a scene we skipped over before with... Makoto?!

Yeah its a small, easily missed one. We kinda missed it last time, making it a rare time we're not actually hanging out with Keita, Airi or Daichi onscreen.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

...Kuze. I don't want you to hear this. If you don't mind, could you--
...It doesn't matter. Continue.
But, Chief Hotsuin...!
Let me hear this.

So, what did you want to talk about?
...Chief, you said there were no people in Hokkaido when we fought Alioth.
...And? Is that a problem?
Is that really... Well...
What is it? This isn't like you. Speak up, I'm busy.

Makoto seems hesitant to speak...

You can do it.

Makoto looks at you and nods...

[Music: Dark Clouds]

As far as I know, there were still people in Hokkaido. I wasn't told they were dead.
There's no need for you to know. It's outside the scope of your operations.
But, I'm part of JP's, too! ...I have a right to know!
What would you have done, then?

...!?
It was necessary to sacrifice Hokkaido in order to bring Alioth down.
Given the choice between saving all of Japan or just a part of Japan, which is best?

Oh...?
I can see the logic... But to make such a sacrifice for the greater good...!?
Do we all want to die together, then?
Th-That's...
What's done is done. There is no reason to answer your question of ethics.

......
...Stop wasting my time.

Yamato walks away...

[Music: Elegy]

The Chief's right... His battle plans are flawless. I'm the one complaining.
...But it's so hard to convince myself of that...
What should I believe in...?
Yourself.

...Sorry for making you worry. This is something I have to come to terms with.

Makoto seems deeply troubled...

And she does, and we know she does since we've seen her do it before. This is just the scene that gives her that last needed push, I guess.

And we skipped it like jerks before. Oops! :v:

Oh, right. As before, can't skip talking to Alcor to find out that he tried to murder Otome so he could by-proxy murder Yamato.

I can't help but think people would be more sympathetic of the latter goal if his method didn't involve the former.

And that's it for today. Let's see what Tico has for us this time.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

I kinda put together a rundown of the stuff you did today...
Well? Wanna hear it?
Let's hear it.
Ho-kay! Well then...
First you woke up, right? Then you met with guys like Io, Hinako, and Ai...

You met Yamato at Shiba Park, too, huh?
And the floaty thing! You saw Alioth for the first time! Yamato got some of it's poison!
Alioth zipped away to Sapporo after they cut the power to Tokyo Tower...
But Tokyo's barrier got a little weaker while the power was off, huh?
Are things rilly gonna be okay for you guys?

Foomy got all happy, so she switched on the Fukuoka Terminal again. So stupid!
Was it after that you found out about Shiva and Kama? The guys for shooting down Alioth.
I didn't really get it, but you used Hinako and Ai to bring 'em back! Awesome!

I know you just wanted to save Otome, but I don't think that was such a good idea!
Y'know, His Excellencey has this cool plan that you guys totally probably wouldn't understand.
I'd like it if you could try not to get in his way too much and be a better buddy for him!
Oh, and then you went to Fukuoka with everyone, right?

Soooo... Does that mean the city getting busted up and stuff was all Polaris' fault?
Oh, you also fought the life outta Alioth's core when it fell on Sapporo!

Ohhh, and one more thing. You know about Yamato's little plan, right?
He's gonna play off Polaris and change the world to the way he wants it, huh?

Well, I think that about sums it up!
Okay, then! Have a nice wheeee!

No new emails again this time. The one for today is from Makoto, and we saw that one last cycle anyway. No new hidden emails until we've picked a route now, at least not as far as I know.

Pretty much, except instead of having a bunch of faceless NPCs she interacts with, it's the rest of the party. Something about that drives home the feeling of "Yes yes whatever you say I need to rank you up so we can bang now. Er I mean so I can make more powerful demons. Er because we are friends. Yes. Alternatively, she just had a demeaning experience and is looking for some support from one of her friends? I mean, her interactions with Hinako and her past as a pianist makes it pretty obvious she's got some self worth issues. And there are only so many girls that she and Hibiki know.

Maybe if I called it 'Interpretive Stabbing'...
It's a reasonable enough scene from Airi's perspective. She's 15 or something, being catty and talking poo poo about her friends to cheer herself up is pretty normal, or at least seems normal. I just think the way the responses are set up (I'm assuming here that Dragonatrix is picking the responses for maximum fate points except where humor is available) make Hibiki come across as very insincere, like he's just agreeing to manipulate her into liking him. So it's a bit uncomfortable on the whole, kinda like the Moon S.Link in Persona 3.

Yeah, you're just letting her get it out of her system, with an undercurrent of fishing for someone to tell her she's cool too when confronted with the fact that literally every woman she knows in the world is cooler than her.

I've always like Airi's scenes, because to me it's 100% believable for some 15 year old who was just on the cusp of having something really good happen for them to suddenly have their father disappear and the city start to collapse and just want to bitch about it to someone understanding.

Man, uh, Friday runs on for a bit longer than I bargained for. So, splitting it in 2 I guess. First one'll just be the usual Fate scene stuff with the requisite boss fight in the second one. And I guess anything else that occurs after Mizar and Ronaldo's attempted homicide.

ApplesandOranges posted:

Ronaldo's still sitting at 1, so yeah. He's not even close to having a chance outside of actively doing his route at this point. Alcor's also at, uh, 0 so he's not got a chance either. I think at this point Makoto and Fumi are at 2, Keita, Airi, Io and Otome are at 3; everyone else is 4. Could be misremembering one or two, though.

KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
New Game + ~ Friday's Partings (I)

Friday starts off with the whole paired off arguments and whatnot. These do actually give a very small amount of Fate points, but I guess the Fumi/Airi one was enough to push the former over the edge.

...Oh right, I totally forgot to fuse things until right after this.

Alilat and Fenrir make a Garuda. Probably should've made one that is more physical oriented, but in a rarity he's not unique so it doesn't really matter.

It would've helped out later I reckon, but no matter. He has a special use we'll get to later.

Shiva and Rangda came together to give us an easy Pallas Athena. A fairly solid Megami even if she has basically no MP to use Goddess Grace with.

Also at this stage, it actually costs more MP to use than Prayer. Not by much but it does add up quickly.

Those are the only level 69 demons, but there's also only two level 70 demons. One of which we're not using because he's an Omega. So...

Murmur and Nata Taishi are the sole way we can make our newest hero, Guan Yu. He initially has more of a bend towards magic but he can do both spellcasting and fistpunching really well. So why not play to both strengths? Genuine hybrid demons are a rarity, competent ones moreso.

Admittedly, his magic is just to reduce damage because getting spells on him is actually kind of a pain but hey.

...Okay, let's do one more thing.

Guan Yu, Garuda and an Elec Set that I'm surprised I actually had give us my favourite demon in the series bar none. What up, Metatron? He also makes no.3 on our list of demons that can only be hurt by almighty. In this case, though, that's very convenient and actually useful.

Now we just skip through a bunch of scenes and plot beats for a bit. And by "a bit" I mean more than half the day, which works out as about 30 minutes real time.

Lots of scenes, a few forced fights, one of which is the stake stuff at Mt. Fuji which is just slow and boring.

So, yeah, nothing new until we've already seen Io's death clip and freed Lugh.

[Music: Countdown]

You idiot! How many times do I have to tell you that you're in the way!?
Mhm...
What the hell were you thinking!?
What happened?
Tch... It's you, Hibiki. Nothing. Just this idiot being an idiot...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

I wanted to help Keita, but... I got in his way...
When you're running around like that, it messes up my attack pattern!
Dammit... I almost died because you stuck your face in my business!
Do your friends jump in front of you and keep you from getting things done?
......

......!

I want you to listen carefully. I never want to see your stupid face--
You're wrong.
What? What'd you say!?

[Music: Elegy]

You would be stronger if you believed in your friends. If you can't, you're the weak one.
...!
......

So what you're telling me is that you want to die!

Keita glares at Jungo...

Stop it, Keita.

Oddly, this dialogue choice has no influence on Keita's Fate points. Instead, it's for Jungo's benefit.

What...!? You're the same as him, then. I'm not gonna mind killing you both!
......

Jungo runs off...

Tch... What a joke. If he says something that stupid again, I'll kill him...!
Believe in your friends.
......! What did you say!?

Keita walks away in a foul mood...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

Hey cool, we could totally ignore Keita now if we really wanted to!

More important is that from this same scene were Keita hit 4, Jungo hit 5. First time this kind of dual rank up has happened so far this thread and might even be the last one too. Pretty drat rare to see it even happen.

...We could ignore Keita but we might as well see it through to the end at this point.

...Tch, it's you. Leave me alone. Go away.
Don't say that to me.
Huh? Don't talk to me like that. I'll kick your rear end.
And tell that idiot to never come near me again.

Hinako comes over to you, panicked...

...Another loudmouth.

[Music: Countdown]

Hey, come with me! Jungo started fighting demons all by himself to protect me!
Whaaaat... What's he doing now...?
I came looking for backup... I need you two to help me!
...This has nothing to do with me.
Wh-What...!? Why not!?

...! A-Are you seriously telling me this!?
...That's right. If you want to help him, Hibiki, then go on.
Are you scared?

G-Guys! If we don't hurry, Jungo's...!
I said, I don't care. Do whatever you want.
Let's go together.
Why are you so persistent!? You know how I live.
...Dammit, you guys are annoying!

Keita walks away.

Ugh! Why is he so... Whatever, Hibiki. Let's go. Jungo needs our help!

You follow Hinako to help Jungo...

[Music: Exploration]

All the demons are gone, right? Phew... We're done.
Thank you, Hibiki. Thank you, Hinako.
I should be thanking you. You were trying to protect me.

...You're such a good kid. Why do you like Keita so much?
...Oh, well. We got rid of the demons, so I'm gonna go home...

[Music: Countdown]

What...!? J-Jungo!

[Music: Over the Brink of Death]

Keita! You came!
No, you idiot. I was just walking by.
And you "just happened" to be walking past? This isn't the kind of place for a stroll...
...You. Zip it.
...Hey, Kuze, Jungo. You once said I was weak.

Stop kidding yourself.
Wh-What!? Who do you think you're talking to!?

...Shut the hell up. I'm out of here.
...Keita!

Hmph... Tell it to Kuze. Whatever.
......

Jungo watches Keita as Keita walks away...

That's Keita done with for now. Let's switch tracks down and see what's up with Daichi. Haven't had a chance to do that in a while after all.

[Music: Countdown]

Run... Hurry...

You hear peoples' voices in the distance...

...Hey, Hibiki. DId you hear something? A voice from that direction?
You...! Mr. Kuze... and Mr. Shijima, right?

A panicked JP's member runs over to you.

Y-You need our help?
Enemies have appeared just past here... I can't take them all myself!
Huh? ...Enemies? You mean, demons? Then sure, leave it to us...

What!? That's really, really bad! We have to call everyone else...!
No, it'll be too late! If they attack the tower the barrier will fall!
We're going to have to stop it ourselves!
R-Really...!? But, I mean... A Septentrione!
There's no way we could take it down! This isn't a joke!

Gah... Hinako!?

Fine, stay here! ...So where's this enemy?
Thanks, Ms. Kujou! There are conflicting reports, so it could be east or west!
We only need to hold on until the other JP's staff arrives. Go east to meet with them!

B-But...
Don't worry about me! We help each other-- it's what we do. Gotta hurry, right?
Thank you! I'll meet the others to the east! Let's both come out of this alive...

Hinako and the JP's member run off in different directions...

...Aaaaaaand they're gone.
Dammit... Why!? Why are they all okay with running off into danger!?
We're going after them!

......
F-Fine! Let's go!

[Music: The Operation Starts]

I've got to man up sometime, so why not now!?
Let's do this.
Y-Yeah! Let's go west and meet up with Hinako... It's more dangerous there...!

H-Help! A demon! There's a demon over here...!

I don't know, it just looked like a demon to me.
You kids should run while you can! Some girl's fighting it, but who knows for how long!
So it's just a normal demon? Phew! That's such a relief!
Let's kick rear end, Hibiki! She might already be done with it...

Huh...? A cell phone...

[Music: Silence]

I've seen this one before...
...! Hey, Hibiki! Could this be--

[Music: Countdown]

Aaaaaah!
...! Was that Hinako!?

Gah! This blows...! I'm not going to last much longer...
Wah! There's so many demons! And Hinako's all alone!

We've got to do it!
Y-Yeah...! Wait for us, Hinako! We'll save you...!

Aaaaaahhh!
Gah...! Dammit, dammit, dammit! This is bad, Hibiki...!

Dammit! Move! This is all my fault...!

...! Who do these demons think they are...? Seriously!

[Music: Battle of the Brave]

...! This... it's my fault!
I have to do this! I have to do something...!

...Daichi!?
Yerrrraaaaaaahhh!

Oh... Sorry. I'm sorry for everything.
...... I forgive you. Who knew you had it in you, Daichi?
...Huh?
I'm seeing you in a different light now. Thanks for saving me.
Oh... Uh... If I'd helped you sooner, this wouldn't have happened...
Don't worry about it. What matters more is that you came for me at all.

A-Awesome...? Me?

Good for you.
Y-Yeah, thanks... It feels kind of weird, though.
Hahaha... The sky really looks blue today...

Just the one scene with Daichi this time; he technically had two if you count Concepts but we saw that before.

Just leaves Airi for the time being.

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

...What's with everyone? A merit system... It's just...
Are you okay?
Oh... Hibiki. Y-Yeah. I'm fine.
Oh, hey, Hibiki... Um, about Makoto...
Do you think... she's going to go along with Yamato's merit system...?

......
...Ban, Kuze! What are you doing!?
...Huh? Makoto...!?

[Music: Countdown]

Huh...? You don't have to yell about something like that. We'll just defeat them.
No, there's too many of them! We don't have the numbers to take them on!
B-But, if no one defeats them, what's going to happen to this place?

You want to retreat...? A-And what about the concert hall...?
I don't know. If we're lucky, nothing's going to happen to it...
"If we're lucky"!? Isn't it JP's job to make sure it's kept safe!?
No...! I don't want anything to happen to it!
Calm down.
I can't stay calm! This is... so...
Ban...

Don't start with that. It's just not possible for us to do it!
I'll fight alone, then! I don't care if I die, if I can protect this place...
...!

[Music: Silence]

Ow...!

[Music: Elegy]

Listen, Ban. Don't get so blinded by what's happening now that you risk it all.

Please, understand...
B-But...
Withdraw for now.
But...Hibiki...

After a long pause, Airi nods...

Thank you, Ban, Kuze...
All right, we're pulling out! Let's go!

One quick fade to black later...

[Music: Silence]

Demon remains are strewn all about...

...Hello, Shining One. Why so worried?
You...!

You recognize the man who walks over to you...

[Music: The Anguished One]

Did you kill all these demons alone?
I suppose so... If my existence relies on the definition of "alone."
...Why?
Haha... "Why"?

About a "different path"?
That's right. And that's why I did what I did.

A new... possibility?
Think of this as merely a token of my gratitude.
Demons are mere pebbles in my path. It is easy to kick them aside.
......

The man vanishes...

[Music: Connected Hearts]

I don't know how, but it looks like we're saved...
......

Huh...? I-It's fine...
...I'll go back to JP's and make a report about that man. ...See you.

Makoto walks away...

Are you okay?
Yeah, I'm all right. I'm just a little surprised...
......
...Go back without me, Hibiki. I have to go somewhere.

Airi walks away...

Airi finally getting to Fate 4 is nice. Took her long enough; she was like one scene away before so it's only fair after all.

Just got some time to kill before we can go fight Mizar which means more Fate scenes in the interlude.

Not too many of them that matter for right now though.

Io surviving the fight with summoning the Dragon with Lugh is what brought her to Fate 4. And just in time too, since now we can go fight Mizar.

But first, let's take a short break. Pretend there's a commercial here or something...

KNEEL BEFORE THE WICKED KING!
Friday's Partings ~ Lord of the Fries

Now that we've got Mizar pinned down and can go murder him... we'll skip that for now. First, some more fusion!

...I swear there's a reason for this.

First, sticking a couple Ara Mitama's down Guan Yu's throat. Enough to push him up to 40 Strength, in fact.

And rewire Metatrontimus Prime to be a little faster too.

Next, I combine Shiva and Tezcatlipoca to make Vasuki the final Dragon. A fair fast, strong dude that has a decent amount of Vit.

And then bring Shiva back to combine with Pallas Athena to make Nyarlathotep (...yes, the Lovecraftian horror). Much like Vasuki above, he's a decent physical attacker who's fast and quite tanky.

...We won't be using either of these though. At least not right now we won't be. We will later, though.

So, are you ready for what is arguably the second hardest fight in the game?

I mean, I wouldn't say it's the second hardest. But hey, you might disagree.

[Music: Countdown]

So... I would like to use my army to see just how powerful you really are.
I came all this way for you. If you disappoint me, I will never forgive you.

[Music: Desperate Situation]

...Hmm, actually y'know what? This fight's a bit different to the norm. I think it could do with some different music too.

[Music: Deep Night] (Overclocked)
devil survivor 1's music is fantastic (as is the overclocked stuff) please click these links

We're not touching Beelzebub for a while. Not because we can't, but because his gimmick is dumb.

Oh yes, it's one of those fights.

Beelzebub himself is kind of a pain if you're not prepared. Dude's level 91 and has a good chance of one-shotting anyone who gets within his 6-space attack range.

So, yes, you can ignore his dumb gimmick and punk him from a distance with Evil Flow/Chaos Breath. We're not doing that though. At least not this time around.

It'll kinda take a while at our levels (he has 6000 HP which is more than everything else we've fought so far) but it's totally doable.

In a nice rarity, we can actually crack stuff in this fight. Both skills are only on Beelzebub and I want to say this is the only map where you can get Holy Strike. There's a second with Ultimate Hit but it's much better to get here.

So, this fight's weird gimmick? If you looked at Bel's load-out, you'd have noticed he had primarily Fire elemental spells and the Fire Amp. All of his demons on the map are oriented around Fire.

You know how in Final Fantasy and other such RPGs there's sometimes a boss with a rotating weakness? This is how that would work here. And it's stupid.

The kicker is that Beelzebub isn't even really the biggest threat here anyway. The random mooks are all around level 80 themselves, which means they could probably take Lilith if they wanted to, but they don't run solo.

So there's 12 actually relatively tough middling demons that will try and gently caress your poo poo up.

Yeah, not letting that one happen. I am significantly underlevelled for what it feels like you are expected to be at this fight.

See, I get the impression that you were meant to buy Tuesday's fight and take out each NG+ boss in one runthrough. It would explain the spontaneous level jump between Sage of Time and Lilith at least.

Beelzebub's defenses change in weird ways. He starts out Strong to every element, save for Physicals (drain), Curse (null) and Almighty (neutral).

Taking out one demon improves his resistance to the appropriate element, in this case Fire, to Null.

This map also happens to be a rare time when I bother to use the Hero racial skill. The upgraded version, in particular. This straight up reduces all damage by 50% for the next skirmish.

This is what saved Hinako from getting obliterated by Tlaloc's Maragidyne at least.

Athena doesn't quite get us the win in the extra turn, but it did stop Tlaloc from getting in a second hit.

So, Fumi's turn to waltz up to Brigid and kick her rear end.

Takes significantly more damage than Hinako did. Hero's Proof actually does make a significant difference.

Fumi did drop it, but got hurt a lot in the process. Titania actively cannot be hurt, aside from by Beelzebub himself, so Recarmloss to fully heal is efficient here.

With Brigid down, Beelzebub's fire resistance is back where it started. It does actually drop down from here, but we'll put that to its real use later on.

For now, we'll just have Jungo and co. ruin a set of Pyro Jacks.

Could've risked taking out all three, but this map is long doing it "normally" so just focusing on the leader at times.

Decarabia opts to try and capitalise on whatever it can and take out Jungo.

I'll give it credit that, yes, it hurts. A lot.

Garuda might not have 40 Magic, but his Holy Dances are efficient enough to wipe out Flauros and Decarabia.

We get a short window at this point to capitalise on the opening we just created. And it is VERY short.

Come Beelzebub's next turn...

He summons four new demons, this time Ice elemental.

This is technically true but it's also a lie. Every round from this point on, Beelzebub's Physical resistance is upped to Reflect.

Doesn't even matter, but it's something.

Speaking of which, Yuki's trying to punch Titania is great. Quite a lot of things we'll use at this point is going to repel Physicals anyway so these small bits of mercy are magnificent.

And Fumi has Magic Yang, and three Elemental Dances just to be safe. Cuts through things remarkably fast, even if they're around 30 levels above us.

Considered having Hinako take out Kudlak, but opted for the Jack instead.

...And, drat. In case it wasn't clear, this kinda stuff is what happened when you forget to use Hero Proof. Doesn't matter too much in this instance, but hey.

Hibiki's gonna drop the Kudlak instead.

Because of these guys. The two Wendigos are physical oriented, moreso than Ice elemental, so Hibiki's the ideal person to tangle with them. Brutal Hit crits reflecting to deal quad damage is fantastic.

And Purple Mirror might be a base level 61, against stuff almost 20 levels his senior. Don't give no fucks.

That leaves the second Jack Frost who opts to try and take out Jungo.

In this instance, I could definitely have had Shiva drop a Multi-Strike and wipe out all three. Didn't quite expect it to go this well though.

...Titania's Fairy Dusting quite a lot. This kind of a side-benefit is absurdly great (for, y'know, obvious reasons) but really not to be relied on.

Those down, Beelzebub's getting excited by this fight and throws more demons at us.

Electric ones this time around. I'm sure you've figured out the pattern at this point.

[Music: Battle Beat] (Overclocked)
i dont know why but i feel the need to remind you that overclocked's music is amazing and you should click this.

There's a reason that I kept mentionined how Shiva would've been better off using Multi-Strike before now. It drops a large amount of numbers and is enough to wipe out, uh, nearly everything quite easily.

At this point, even if something DOES survive a regular punch from Jungo is close to being able to one-shot them at max HP.

Seriously, over 600 damage from a relatively low-level Jungo on this map from a regular attack is pretty nuts.

This random Nue is probably the easiest fight even with that though.

Hinako always goes first, and her Multi-Strikes do have a chance to petrify. Quite easy to wipe out things whenever that procs.

This other Orobas is harder than the previous one, if only because of his demons.

Or, uh, it should be. But Suparna accidentally wipes itself out with a Hassohappa. Oops.

This one would actually hurt Hibiki. I say would because...

It hits Purple Mirror first, bounces off of him and kills Orobas first. It never gets a chance to touch Hibiki! :v:

Possession here is kind of completely unnecessary, but it ensures that the Nue doesn't get ideas to, like, try and fight Hinako or something.

It, um, had no alternative to fighting Hibiki regardless. I just spaced on that for a moment I guess.

Seiryuu wiping itself with a Hassohappa. Sometimes I wish the AI would learn from its mistakes just to make things interesting.

...Especially since immediately afterwads, Nue used Mighty Hit on itself.

That's three down, and the Force wave is probably the least interesting of the bunch.

At this point, we've gotten strong enough to go toe-to-toe with these things and come out on top.

This one should have gone badly, but, um, they forgot to Tetrakarn. Very definitely not complaining.

There is something that the AI can still do to gently caress me over, but it's not that likely to happen.

And, uh, Badb Catha being weak to Force in the midst of the Force wave is fantastic. Makes things so much easier.

It's a good thing we can plow through these because this fight has outlived its welcome at this point.

And I do mean plow through them. I've been putting all of Hibiki's stat points here into Agility. He can now outspeed most things in this very fight. It's kinda great.

Let's just bring this one to a close and then get ready to end the fight itself.

Anzu's Megidolaons should hurt by all accounts. If they both did them, then they definitely would hurt.

The second one opted to use a Mazandyne. Which, yes, is boosted by his amp. Which makes it heal Hinako better.

I gave Guan Yu those Mitamas for a reason. This is that reason.

Lastly, we have the physical wave. After this, it cycles back to Fire and begins anew. Seen everything there is to this fight; let's gear up to end this.

You'd think the Physical wave would be the hardest, right? Well, uh, it's not. Fire (the first time through) is because of the level disparity.

Only the two Cerberuses have Pierce. Across all 12 demons, it's just the one that can ignore resistance.

Shield All was a precaution since these guys can still hurt if given the chance. It is proving rather unnecessary

Y'know, I'm not entirely sure if Hinako can petrify dudes whenever this happens. It doesn't even really matter but hey.

Putting this Cerberus down, because its the one positioned in a way that can gently caress things up for me.

And since Hibiki's entire team reflects Physicals, stuff like this is really common.

Oh, and when Metatron does the Holy Dance he makes it count. Over 1900 damage with only Magic Yin to boost it. That's pretty bonkers.

This random Yaksa is kind of our final hurdle before we can go and win.

Admittedly, when they suicide on dudes with Reflect it's not much of a hurdle.

Doubly so when its their team leader doing it.

Now the real tricky part: not killing this Cerberus. Or, rather, not letting it kill itself. If this dies, we have to do all this poo poo again.

It does not like making it easy for me.

The Pendragon dropping an Attack All and killing itself is perfectly fine though.

Next we just skip turns until the turn order works out in our favour. This is very definitely in our favour.

So now we can kill Cerberus. This map is unofficially over.

At, um, at the start of this fight Hibiki had 9 Agility. He has gained 17 levels.

He, erm, he is also the exact same level he was when I wiped out Polaris on the last runthrough. This is low for the number of levels you can get in this fight. If you're insane enough, grinding here to level 99 is more than possible. And some people think they have to get to around 90+ just to stand a chance against Beelzebub himself...

Yeah, gently caress that. Beelzebub is weak to punching. Jungo can eviscerate him now, thanks.

[Music: Shudder]

...Actually, Shudder's nice and all but variety is the spice of life. And we are fighting Belzaboul (albeit with a stupider gimmick)...

[Music: Coldheartedness] (Overclocked)
again, this alternative music is phenomenal. click it.

That's better.

Now, with all his demons dead and a Blitzkrieg to make it worse, Beelzebub is going to die horribly.

I considered using Rage Soul, but then that wouldn't be quite as nice and efficient. Only getting to deal single damage regular attacks and all.

Garuda's just here so Jungo can waltz up to Bel in one go from outside his attack range. The damage contribution is nice but it's not what he's here for.

Beelzebub hitting himself for 1900 with Deathbound is great though.

At this stage, Jungo is tanky enough to take the one hit of it and come back swingining. Shiva repays the favour for him first, of course.

And then Jungo more than proves why he's Jungo. Goddamn.

Extra turns now, and Garuda with a cherry tap. Double Extras are why Jungo has Shiva here by-the-by. Not needed now, but if they were then they'd have been what pushed it over the edge.

But, Shiva's regular attack is more than a match for Beelzebub at this point.

And that's all she wrote. Ultimate Hit is our real prize here. This is the final component of the raw physical build.

Holy Strike is nice and all, but it's eh. To say its exclusive to this map it is not worth the hassle.

Fwah ha... You're above and beyond my expectations. I had no idea you'd be this good!

So, yeah, that's the three regular New Game+ bosses done.

Three down, three to go. And the remaining three are quite, ahem, special.

And as per usual, we just destroyed Beelzebub so we can now fuse him. He's the second best Tyrant and one of my prefered demons for a final-final party. Lucifer, naturally, is the best Tyrant.

So, we have Ultimate Hit. What can we do with it?

Oh, y'know, just ruin the days of everything else ever. Double powered, Almighty-elemental fists that hit every enemy unit without exception and they do so twice. The minimum stat requirements for this? 22 Strength and 14 Vitality. You can, in theory, do this as early as level 28.

That's a good start. But I want more. MORE.

Rage Soul is quite nice, if you haven't gathered yet.

So, that's Mizar promptly dealt with. Friday took a while here mostly due to the Beelzebub fight.

It takes a while to play regardless because of some lengthier maps.

Mt Fuji still takes far too long for my liking, just due to navigation. I should've stocked multiple Garudas, yeah, yeah. My fault I know.

Aside from that bump, it's just gots lots of stuff to do due to the nature of the day.

Oh and we can't avoid talking to Alcor about the current Not-YHVH.

I actively tried to skip as many of his scenes as I could. Doing that with most people keeps them at Fate 1 or 0. Alcor's a mandatory 2. Weird.

So, aside from Alcor and one other person, this now means...

Everyone is at Fate 4 or higher. Poor Ronaldo's still being completely neglected. We'll learn much more about him in due time too, but his time is not now.

No, this is the time to count the final votes. See who's route came out on top. It was really close this time too, but...

With a super-super narrow margin, Yamato picks up the victory. I'm actually kinda surprised by this one. Not really where I figured we'd be going so soon.

For what it's worth, A New World isn't listed here because we didn't meet the requirements for it to be available.

...So you've come, Hibiki. You're late.
Sorry to make you wait.
Hahaha... What cheek. Though it's true, you're the only one I'd be willing to wait for.

Oh... I see... You wish to have Kuze join us?
Heh, naturally. It's obvious from all Hibiki has achieved that he can be of use to us.

Away, fools. I'm speaking with Hibiki now. Can't you wait your turns?
Haha, I forgot about that. All right, we'll leave this to you, Chief.
Now then... to business. I won't take up much of your time.

[Music: JPs -Geomagnetism Research Department-]

Hibiki, you know that man has never known equality from the moment of his birth.
It's as plain as day. There are countless people in the world, each one of them unique.

Individuality must be preserved by a truly skillful man leading the foolish masses!
Until now, that was not possible. Preposterous logic and bizarre mores prevented it.
Those were merely foolish ideals of the powerless who fear their own downfall...!
As long as such fools remain in power, do you think these wrongs will ever be righted?

Hibiki! You are strong... You are one of the few who might surpass me!
Join hands with me and let us lead mankind to true victory!
Okay.

[Music: The Operation Starts]

Heh... Good call, Kuze. That's what I expect from you.
Hello, Hibiki. Looks like we're comrades now. We've got a ways to go, but we can do it.
Ha... Hahahaha!
I've finally found someone...! I thought you'd agree, Hibiki.

Starting tomorrow, we will eliminate the opposition and open a path to Polaris!
I will prepare a room for you at the JP's office in Osaka. Rest well.

You say your farewells to everyone before heading to your room...

[Music: In the Devastated Town]

I kinda put together a rundown of the stuff you did today...
Well? Wanna hear it?
Let's hear it.
Ho-kay! Well then...
First you woke up! Then Daichi and Io told you about Ronny.

Looks like your pals didn't all see eye to eye with Yamato either!
They've all got their own thing going. I say, good luck with that!
Oh, then you and Ronny saw that huuuuge magic circle under the government building!

I bet Yamato never woulda brought it up if you hadn't said anything!
After that, you fought Mizar and saw how whacking at it just split off little copies!

If you hadn't pulled out those Stakes and made the dragon munch on the thingy...
I'm sure it woulda been a rilly huge pain in the butt!
Oh yeah, that reminds me! That was about the time you saved Io!

After that, you used the dragon to curbstomp Mizar on the roof of the government building!
Those barriers over the cities are gone now, but who cares! Mizar was a jerk.
Oh, that reminds me. Daichi was thinking about the scar that Polaris' attack left...
And about the absolute void, and all that!
Foomy was talking all big, saying, "The world's just information," and stuff.
After that, you find Ronny and Mako-Mako fighting each other...

Then you had to pick someone's belief to lend a hand with for tomorrow's big fight.

But... how's it all going to work out in the end? No one knows!
Oh...! Man, I nearly forgot to tell you something rilly important!

But hey, you've picked a path, right? I'm sure you don't need us anymore!
You're on your own when it comes to fighting for the future now! Have fun!
Um... I think that's all I needed to tell you!
Okay, then! Have a nice wheeee!

Yeah, so Friday's emails are a bit different.

Pretty shocking

I don't think it's right for us to fight like this

So we're enemies now... But I'll win and make you wee what I mean

Well, see you tomorrow

They're given to us by the route leaders that we didn't choose.

you, but it's for the greater good.

I'll give it my all, so I have no regrets, and I expect the same of you. See you tomorrow...

We didn't get them when we sided with Alcor because, um. Actually I'm not entirely sure why; maybe they figured since our affiliation wasn't known (before we rocked up with Al and ruined plans at least) that we'd bowed out and chose not to back anyone. Or something. I dunno, just a thought I had when thinking about it.

So, yeah. No new optional bosses remaining this time around. But hey, just in time for a new route to take over so that's a happy coincidence!

Oh, and if you're curious about something, Ultimate Hit and Holy Strike are the only skills exclusive to NG+. Some stuff on GameFAQs and the like calls Anti-All NG+ exclusive too but that's straight up wrong. Skills we're still missing?

...Huh. According to my checklist, we're only missing three now. Probably be able to grab all three throughout this route's Saturday. We shall see!
