The mobius ignition issue is currently causing me grief. The 12v power socket on my car is always live so I don't want to use it for a dash cam, so I'm using the usb socket instead. The problem is when you unlock the car the usb powers on briefly but not long enough to fully boot the mobius, and by the time I've started the car a few seconds later the mobius doesn't seem to catch it in time so its not turned on. This is a known limitation with the mobius where it needs uninterrupted power at 5 seconds into booting.

I don't want to have plug/unplug the camera or press the power button, so its kind of useless at the moment as I can't rely on it actually recording.

I think the only answer is going to be to put in a separate usb socket thats linked to the ignition which I could hide away in the glovebox to be a bit tidier and more discrete.

Doesn't this setting help that?

I tried that setting but it only seems to effect the manual power on button.

So I've the sold the mobius and got a mini 0801 earlier today - that fits perfectly behind the rear-view mirror (mobius was a bit too deep for my car), and has no issues with how the usb is powered in my car.

Now thinking of getting a second 0801 to point out the rear window as the 3 times I've been hit by other cars its always been from behind.

I just put a usb hub under the passenger seat and fed a lead off it to the front and rear cameras. Its easy to mostly hide the usb leads apart from a couple of inches in lots of cars without any tools or disassembly.

This video shows the basic idea,

The mobius won't run off the usb socket in my car - I've got a usb power checker and the volts/amps look fine, and other usb devices (like the mini 0801) work ok. It will run off the 12v socket with a usb convertor, so I'm guessing the usb socket must be slightly dirty power that the mobius doesn't like.

The mini 0801 seems to occasionally refuse to cycle files and I need to format to get it working again. Flashing to a different firmware hasn't helped, so going to try a couple of different micro SD cards.

It will be nice when these go properly mainstream and more reliable like a proper consumer device.

First thing I've caught on my dash cam which was worth keeping - not an accident, just something that made me laugh,

I'm now tempted to add the same signage to the back of my car :wiggle:

Its worth checking the size of the cameras and where you want to put it - a mobius won't fit between the rear-view mirror and windscreen in my car but a mini 0801 fits nicely.

Its also not just the size of the camera, many have quite bulky mounts. Again, the mini 0801 suited me as the mount is mostly built in so fits easily.

Caught an accident on my dashcam - not one involving any kind of vehicle though. Can only just see it for a second in the video but watch the dog,

Having your dash cam record audio can be quite a revelation - I had no idea quite how much I hurled verbal abuse at other drivers or at what volume :ohdear:

I've just fitted an A118C as a rear-facing camera and I'm really quite impressed with the quality, its far better than the mini 0801 which faces the front. Think I'll be upgrading that one to an 0805 for better overall performance, but I should be able to plug it into the exist mount.

Which dashcam to buy? Mobius or B40/A118? They're roughly the same price. No reason to buy a street guardian right?

Mobius $83.99

Mobius dashcam package? $99.99

B40-c $71.99

I was leaning towards the B40 unless you guys tell me I'm wrong.

Its worth checking which actually fits. The mobius wouldn't fit between the windscreen and rear-view mirror in my car but the B40 will. On most cars the mobius will work okay.

Got a new hatchback car where my existing A118 rear dashcam isn't really a good fit to go onto the hatch/window. So I'm currently playing with a couple of neodymium magnets to stick the mount to the roof liner as the 3M sticky mounts don't really stay stuck to the fabric.

Due to the shape of the roofliner theres probably half an inch gap between the fabric and the metal of the roof, but the magnets appear to holding. There is some twisting so I may try a combination of some thin double-sided sticky tape and the magnet. Alternatively I could go for a stronger magnet but think that could lead to crushing the roof liner.
