I was more concerned with characters talking in hashtags and a plot that revolved around cell phone hacking and revenge porn sites than I was about Babs getting drunk and hooking up with a guy. I think I saw one of the creators on Twitter saying they understood the fans' complaints and not to worry, so maybe things even out. I'm not going to stop reading after one issue, personally.

I just saw that Batman Eternal started a new arc a few issues back - would that be a decent enough jumping in point, or am I going to be completely lost without having read the previous issues? I have the Vol 1 collection coming from the library but that's all I'll really have access to as far as catching up.

Has anyone been reading Catwoman with the new creative team? I dropped off the Nocenti run, but I heard it's started to get better with the switch.

This is another "here's why no one buys DC comics" things more than comics in general, but their insane inability to actually do things to make stuff appealing to new readers is a big part of it too, I think. They relaunched their entire line, gave everything new #1s, and said that it was all new continuity...but instead of starting from the beginning they start 5 years in, to the point where not only would new readers with a casual knowledge of things be confused but even us nerds had no clue what was in and what was out. They couldn't even keep poo poo consistent within the books. Meanwhile I gave a friend of mine who had never read a comic in her life the first issue of Hawkeye and she was instantly hooked.
This was exactly my problem. I started reading comics a few months ago, and the existence of the New 52 was a pretty big reason why, since the main reason I never read anything before was due to decades of previous continuity and feeling like I'd have no idea what was going on. So I jump in with all the New 52 series, and sure enough, I for the most part had no idea what was going on. I kept thinking I was just missing obvious stuff until I talked to other people I know who read comics and they had to explain to me that unless you knew all this poo poo from before the New 52, you'd be clueless. The whole thing still baffles me.

I don't know much about the DC universe so I was hoping the character in Arkham Manor was related to Olive somehow.

I think that besides Snyder's Batman, Gotham Academy might actually be my favorite current DC book. I have really enjoyed it.

Snyder confirmed a 2nd "season" of Eternal in a Reddit AMA, but there hasn't been any word other than that.

I really liked the final issue, too. The little check-in on all of the different Gotham stories put a nice bow on things leading into Convergence.

It's a lot different than the other Bat/Gotham books but yes, it is very good. Think a more spy or secret agent type story rather than the normal superhero stuff. First trade is out in June, I think, if you want to check it out.
