Three weeks ago I had surgery for a teared rotator cuff. People told me it was going to hurt for a long time but I really did not expect it to be that bad. Being stuck for weeks with just one arm sucks, makes you realize how valuable our body parts are (well most of them). Patching and playing with only one arm is a challenge but it sure beats doing nothing all day. Enjoy my recovery track https://soundcloud.com/gautier-gillon/solar-wind

That is rad. You will want a big breadboard (get an rsr mb-106 or something that looks like it) and two packs of breadboard wires. If you start with single supply stuff (cmos/ttl digital sound makers, inherently awful but very convenient single supply opamps), the power supply is just a wall wart, a power regulator, some diodes and a couple of capacitors. poo poo won't spark much or be too scary if you short something. just generally a chill way to get your feet wet. stanley lunetta inspired cmos stuff is cheap and easy to build. electromusic has a subforum for it, but schematics and videos and demos are all over the web. for parts https://www.taydaelectronics.com/ carries most the stuff you will ever need and usually have a promo code up somewhere. you will probably want an assortment of common value resistor, electrolytic capacitors and nonpolar capacitors. you'll need to get those from ebay, or look up the average contents of one and line item duplicate it on a tayda order. you'll want some of these: https://www.taydaelectronics.com/l7809cv-l7809-7809-voltage-regulator-ic-9v-1-5a.html and maybe a heat sink. a couple of 3906 and 3904 transistors these are o.k. to drive small speakers https://www.taydaelectronics.com/ic-integrated-circuits/audio-amplifier-instrumentation-op-amp/lm386-lm386l-audio-power-amplifier-ic.html these are the through-hole versions of the opamps in the korg littlebits synth https://www.taydaelectronics.com/lm358p-lm358-358-low-power-dual-op-amp-ic.html if you want to go analog instead of digital, that's as good a place to start as any. for tools, you'll need a multimeter. frankly, a $20 one from harbor freight will be adequate. you'll need pliers and forceps and tweezers and snips and wire strippers and then you'll need stuff for soldering but you can figure that all out in time.

Get CD40106 for first CMOS. Cheap, runs on a wide range of single side voltages, schmitt trigger so it's not finnicky about sagged inputs. One resistor and one capacitor gets you a square oscillator. You can also use them to make logic gates using passive components (thanks always to Ray ):

PSR EW410, manufactured around 2018 I think? The manual claims recordings are made as two-channel stereo in 16 bit at 44.1 kHz. That matches up with the size and description of the file I was given to play with, so I don't think it's compressed. Audacity hasn't been able to import it as raw data, and I'm starting to think it may be encrypted or something.

Whattup. I need a desk. I have my dx7 on its case on the floor, underneath a table with my desktop/monitor/speakers on it, at the end of my bed of which I use as a chair. It's really bad. I have two laptops (t470 <arch linnux> and 2020mbp) on a suit case trunk of which I sit on a yoga mat. I don't *mind* sitting on the floor, but it makes it hard to play the synth. I don't know. I move so much that portability is important to me (nothing more portable than the floor). It'd be nice to get the keyboard closer to the macbook so I could connect the two. lol, I haven't found a good solution yet to my floor setup. well any small desks that could fit two laptops, audio monitors, typing keyboard, and mouse, and dx7 ?

If you have a couple hundred to spend the best you can do is probably a Husky workbench. they make adjusting-height ones and they’re currently very popular in the Desktop thread. On the cheap side IKEA’s desks, worktops, and diy desk bar line are all good. I had my gear on some $15 trestles and an old door for a while.

Cool lol thanks. As odd as this sound, I fixed my problem by changing position of the trunk to face the room, and put my back against the wall with a big pillow. Now I have something to lean against. Theres a little space to my left I could fit the keyboard. My back muscles were getting sore. I had been playing guitar constantly, but now it's going to be "synth mania" as soon as I get the Philips Audio Philips SHP9500 headphones in the mail.

check out the "post your actual desktops" thread in SH/SC if you haven't already - they cover a lot of adjustable height desks and ergonomic stuff. Personally I got a solid core door and screwed ikea legs to it so I have a 2m+ workspace.

Picked up the NDLR because I couldn't just do some backing tracks in Reaper or Ableton to play music over, I apparently needed a generative monster. Easy to use. I have five synths and five synths would be run off it if I had enough MIDI cords, which I don't but I plugged a MeeBLip Geode, a Neutron and a cheesy little 8-bit box into it and the interface is really intuitive. I ran out of synths so I am going to bust out my two Korg X5s for the 90s cheez. It's been a lot of fun so far.

That's awesome, the NDLR is so cool I'm shopping for a desktop synth to pair with my electric piano's keys. It doesn't have a mod or pitch wheel so I would love to get something that has that for live playing. Something that will do pads well. Thinking about a Boutique Juno.

They're pretty basic and a little rough around the edges, but I figured it was best to get them completed in some form and posted somewhere. They were pretty good exercises for starting to get to grips with the SoundToys suite. Now I'm off to do some noodling in Loom 2.
