Pfft. My TV Tropes page is four times the size. In ANY EVENT: Mindjack was in competition with another Square Enix game with a similar gimmick at the time it came out: the PSP game "The 3rd Birthday." Which, uh…well, I don't think it was a good game but it certainly was a lot more fun to play than Mindjack. It had an actual color scheme, for one.

So since your youtube channel 2 years of men Drinking Coffee thing shows a video of you guys playing Mega Man Zero..."3", does that mean we will see that in the future? (I know it's a typo, but I would actually not mind seeing you guys play that game, or the 4th one as well why not). Edit: Ok, so I actually watched the video now and how the gently caress did you actually run into people playing this game? goldjas fucked around with this message at 09:49 on May 10, 2014 |

You made a very professional-looking OP for the game's story and characters... and I cracked up when I actually read them. I assume that the manual actually provides some backstory and useful info. Believe it or not, that is still occasionally a thing in this day and age. As to whether knowing the backstory would improve the experience... that's another matter entirely! (Dammit, replacementdocs.com doesn't have the manual. What a glaring omission!) OK, totally gonna buy this game now so I can become a red ghost and mess with you guys. Gotta let me know when you are next playing.

The thread is a bit restless, and I think I know why: people want to know more about the MindJack universe! So this video will put your questions to bed, some sort of futuristic bunk bed, I'm sure. It's the introductory cutscene. There's no commentary on it, but I remember Chris saying one of the women looked like Ellen DeGeneres to him. your evil twin posted:I assume that the manual actually provides some backstory and useful info. I dug out the manual and it's better than Ride to Hell's. However, the backstory is fairly incorrect and uses a lot of passive voice construction: The Manual posted:AD 2031, an era where technology has begun to advance beyond the realm of human imagination. Jim Corbijn, FIA agent, was waiting for a woman: Rebecca Weiss, an anti-government activist due to arrive on the last flight of the day from Shanghai. The pair's encounter is marred by a sudden terrorist attack. As they fight to survive, they are soon sucked into a vast, overwhelming conspiracy. To the masterminds behind the scenes, however, this battlefield is nothing but a game. To them, everything is an illusion, a figment of their imaginations. They participate in this battle without anyone being aware of their presence. They have the power to access the vast networks spread across the cities, taking over the hearts and minds of other people. To them, Jim, Rebecca, and the soldiers and citizens on both sides of the conflict are but mere pawns in their game. They are the Mind Hackers, and the technology at their fingertips makes them the true overlords of the 21st century. MassRafTer posted:Or someone else can...

Toying with the lives of armed soldiers and armed civilians alike? If the game were actually smart that could honestly be an interesting deconstruction. I like how in the cutscene jacked civilians just randomly have guns appear in their hands like it is in the game. It shows a strong dedication to verisimilitude.

The guns don't appear out of thin air, it's just that in this world everyone knows that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is with a good guy with a gun. Gun nut utopia.

I'm curious about one thing. Is this magic or technology? Also, did that event in the intro occur before or during the events of this game? And, why are the Mindjackers color coding their jacking balls? Can not Mindjackers see the balls? Can Mindjackers see the balls? Why is it that a civilian aims a gun at a cop for a few seconds, and it takes a Mindjacker for a cop to retaliate after they have shot? When people have guns, do they not know how to shoot if they are not Mindjacked? If there were so many Mindjackers and they can freely move through bodies, why have we only seen 3? (I'm assuming Diaper is playing a Mindjacker) Are the Wisps the actual bodies of the Mindjackers? Just the one question, though.

Having played through the game before, you guys can rest easy knowing that none of the story in the manual past the point about the terrorist attack is relevant to the game. At all. The tutorial is literally more relevant to the ending than all that. I'm serious, play through it and see if you can't guess what the ending will be. Also pretty much none of that intro past the soldier bit is relevant as well.

I like to give credit where it is due, and I must say that intro was pretty cool. Also, like everyone else I thought 'huh' when the possessed civilians suddenly had guns. In the game I just assumed civillians suddenly had guns for reasons of gameplay, but they even put that into the intro cutscene, so... huh. Of course, it could simply be that the game is set in America. Where everyone has a gun. EDIT: Hahahaha, I went and did something else for a couple of minutes, then finished my post, and discovered everyone else already beat me to it.

This is a cool gameplay mechanic, but a stupid story idea, although on par with much military sci-fi. Let's say the magic guns are nano-machines. Yes, that's exactly how humanity flourishes in the 21st century (to create this amazing technology) - by endlessly manufacturing (nano-lego) single-shot pistols, and conflicts are resolved by random skirmishes.Brassherald posted:I'm curious about one thing. To be fair, those are actually useful. Their main function is to get possessed (hopefully by you) and then suicide into enemies. To be fair, this would require you to leave your character under AI control which is not a good idea.
