Felt the urge to replay Ocarina of Time, and realized I'd never gotten 100% done so I'm working on that, and holy God is the fishing ever terrible. I have no idea how I did this as a child, though apparently the 3ds one is harder for some reason.
I have to wait for a fish to be where I can catch it, then I spend about 10 minutes casting and trying to entice it, then when it finally does bite I fight it for another 5-10 until it inevitably breaks the line and gets away. Rinse, repeat. It's awful in every possible way.

Meanwhile, my 2nd man is throwing a grenade into the basement to collapse the floor underneath the enemy. My sniper is cracking shots at anyone poking their head out. My fourth man is sneaking below windows and popping up to spray his SMG point blank at fools inside. Hell yeah, that house is literally falling apart around them! Bad-rear end!

I think the big difference with RE3, for better or worse, is that it's a lot more action oriented, but it doesn't really commit to that all the way, so you get basically a survival horror but with way too many bullet sponge enemies.

I'm still missing an achievement that never popped for one of the perks and several came in days late, I'm not convinced they had play testers checking any of these things

It's inevitable that any large game will pad out the playtime with collectibles and challenges. Who does it best and worst?

Resident Evil series: Good. You're not turning all the rooms blue on the map to make it tidy, though that is an incentive. You need to scrounge for every round of ammo to keep on edge unless you are somehow able to kill Hunters with a knife. In the REmake you are strongly encouraged NOT to to retread old rooms because any zombies you felled will return as stronger, faster Crimson Heads. This encourages planning and optimizing your route on replays.

Arkham Origins and Red Dead 2: poo poo. You have to complete challenges in a strict order and progress is not retroactive. The stealth challenges in Origins are straight up unwinnable because they hinge on Predator rooms, which are limited in number. The infinitely superior Arkham City had no such restrictions. Red Dead 2 has gated challenges as well as collectibles that are difficult to track. I don't know why Rockstar puts poo poo in their games that isn't fun to find, barely reward you, and aren't even needed for any trophies.

Just Cause 3: Good. This game had a ton of issues but I do like any incentive to flex your move-set, and that what counts as collectibles are mostly buildings and military bases you have to blow up.

Anthem: poo poo. There's a point in the game where you're progress is blocked unless you fill a checklist of poo poo that in other game would be optional stuff located in the stats menu.

Assassin's Creed: Mixed. The series has been overkill with useless crap since its inception but Unity takes the cake.

The only good collectibles are ones that are easily trackable. Either with map upgrades a la Ubisoft games, or are specific things so you can look them up and see what you’re missing. Nothing takes the wind out of my sails like have 99/100 of something and zero indication of what I’m missing

I can't quite say exactly why, but I have an unusually hard time following the plots of Assassin's Creed games. I guess I'll just go to the quest marker and stab whoever's there.

At least in the main game the motivation of 'masked assholes killed my son, must kill masked assholes' was straightforward enough.

I just started the main game and felt like I missed a cutscene, but apparently it just jumps ahead like that. I mean I get it and I don't really need to spend 20 minutes watching Templars kill my family again, but a little synopsis would help (although I assume there will be a big cut scene later explaining exactly what's happening)

If I remember these Bethesda games right, I can just stick to the main quest for the most part and will find enough to make it through; doing side quests and poo poo when I feel like it. Yes?

I just made it to the first town, found my dog, grabbed a laser gun and met up with The Resistance but am already carrying a bunch of poo poo I don't care to deal with or bother to figure out how it's used. Shadow of War was nuts for that. Finishing the game gets you an insanely long series of very hard fort defense events, and your reward for eventually slogging your way through them is a 3 minute cutscene wrapping up the ending. Absolutely bizarre choice

There was a terrible Sherlock Holmes game where a new PS4 Holmes meets with a recycled PS3 Lestrade.

I had a very poor impression with Psychonauts because a lot of the characters you meet look like rear end next to Raz. Come to think of it everything about that game was busted to some degree right up to the last level which most people never beat, myself included.

That example IS different though. If I buy Avengers for Xbox and PS4 I pay the same price for each system, but arbitrarily have less content on the Xbox version. That's pretty hosed up and very different that a game that isn't on the system at all.
It's also different than what Soul Calibur does because each system had a different guest; if the Xbox version of Avengers had Black Panther or something and the PS4 didn't that's a different matter entirely, right now they're just making a complete game that includes Spider-Man, and then removing him for other systems while charging the same price.

Also, again, an entire game being made for one system and not entire is super different than a game have less content on another system.

I gave up on Alien Isolation last year because I was playing on the highest difficulty for the achievement and it was just not at all fun. Decided to give it another go on Medium and just not care about achievements at all, and it's still just not that fun.
I WANT to like it and it's a cool concept, but it's mostly just a dreary slog where either the xenomorph is down the hall and I get to crawl tediously around, or he sniffs me out from across the map and pounce even if I'm in a locker nowhere near it.
The lack of an autosave is the most glaring thing, even just adding that would make it less frustrating. As is you have to use the save points, and you can't have multiple saves so if you gently caress up and the xeno happens to be behind you (tbf it does warn you if enemies are nearby) then you get to restart the whole chapter.
