genderstomper58 posted:Hi, Cop Goons, GIP poster here. Got a quick question for you lads, perhaps top secret info though. I use an Escort Passport 9500ix radar/laser detector and while it works awesome for K band and Ka band stuff, I've heard that you'll only get a laser warning if the Officer is actually shooting right at your car, at which time it is probably too late to slow down. I've only had two laser warning so far and they were both super close and definitely would follow that logic, but I was Hella Speeding and didn't get pulled over. So I was wondering how exactly laser works I guess, and I've never heard of Yahoo answers or google, before you ask. Cheers lads(beanie I drove through LA today and they love speed traps but does highway not use lasers there???) Your understanding for how it works is also how it's been explained to me. LSP has lasers but only select units.

There is a rare chance that your radar detector can catch a bounce from a car that is ahead of you being lasered, but for the most part if it gets a hit, then it's already too late

Radar detectors are rendered useless if the radar antenna is not transmitting. So if the Officer is like me, and waits for the right moment to strike. The radar detector just tells you that you got caught

Or, you know, you could just slow down before bends in the road after a long straight, downhill slopes, or lightly used on ramps.

Turns out my girl decided she really didn't want me to take that position because of how it would affect my schedule, so I turned it down. All good because one of my buddies who really wanted it got offered it next.

I love my schedule. Weekends and Mondays off? By the way our hiring announcement is still open. Hiring 24 officers for a January/February class.

"Police should be encouraged to walk beats instead of cruising through them" So... You want more police? Because uh.. that's the only way "walking the beat" is viable anymore. DC has people walking on weekends because they illegally tamper with schedules to force every officer to work during the summer.

Whip Slagcheek posted:So... You want more police? Because uh.. that's the only way "walking the beat" is viable anymore. Love walking foot patrols, especially in the summertime. When we do though calls start to stack and our Sergeant and Lieutenants and Commanders want to know what the gently caress we're doing walking around. Just not enough officers to make it work and that blessed response time to consider. Also, there are very limited "downtown" residential areas in our beat where actual targeted foot patrols would mean anything more than patrolling by vehicle in the first place.

Yeah so long as you keep a nice consistent 5mph pace and keep the windows down a patrol car can be pretty effective.

I thought the whole point of walking instead of driving was that you actually stopped and talked to the locals, and came across as human beings interested in the community instead of the Eye O'The Law creeping past in your Cruiser O'Oppression I mean when you're not stopping and getting frisky or whatever

I've been arrested for a couple of things and given a few speeding tickets and it was mostly me being a dumbass and in all honesty the cops came across as totally reasonable people every single time?? I just don't get where the hate comes from, there's just no way every one of these morons can have been personally brutalised... Cops seem pretty chill to me? I must be doing something wrong.... Hahahaha someone just posted that cops are a net negative

I've had far more people shake my hand and thank me after leaving the PD after a citation/arrest than walk out hating me or with a sour attitude. You just have to treat people with some respect and dignity, that's really all it takes. Unfortunately some cops don't get that.

Unfortunately when you start to cut police to the bare bones needed to answer calls, you pretty much spend your entire shift bouncing from one call to another and you end up pissing off your coworkers if they have to cover your calls while you are out shaking hands and kissing babies and poo poo starts to stack up on them. This problem could also be solved by people acting like adults and not calling police for every barking dog, suspicious(black) person walking through a neighborhood and mean facebook message. It's been my experience that most people hate the idea of a police state when they are the target, but they loving love calling the police on other people for every little thing.
