About Hand of God....this interview with its creator convinced me that I need to watch it after all. Plus, Garret Dillahunt and Andre Royo. I mean, come on.

sbaldrick posted:Criminal Minds is a great loving veg out and watch some people die horribly show, at this point it's almost to be a B-grade 80's horror movie with how loving crazy it's become. If you watch it that way it's a great show about crazy poo poo. I used to catch this show on mid-day reruns, so I've only seen a handful of them, but there's one episode with Mandy Patinkin in which he meets with a woman on death row, and it was legitimately fantastic and his acting performance was fantastic. It was this one: "Riding the Lightning". That episode made me cry. Criminal Minds made me cry, ffs, because Mandy Patinkin and Jeanetta Arnette were so good in it.

I hope this is kosher to post here. I work at a university library and help stage the exhibits. Last spring we held an exhibit on 10 cult TV series, the idea being that sometimes you can become so obsessed a TV show that you want to immerse yourself in that world, and you find yourself wanting to learn about that world as much as you can. Maybe you go so far as to try to pick research topics in your classes that you can somehow tie back to the show you love, just because you can't get it out of your head and want to put your interest to good use. Or maybe you want help writing fanfiction about it. Whatever, the library is here to help without judgement. (Click for big; sorry for the bad lighting in some) Downton Abbey American Horror Story Dexter The Voice Carnivale Boardwalk Empire Side of Carnivale and Boardwalk Empire cases -- do you know who's who in the mugshots? Once Upon a Time The Walking Dead The Big Bang Theory Breaking Bad Entire album with closeups of each shelf of each case -- https://www.flickr.com/photos/44255616@N07/sets/72157641561414615/ I did the Carnivale and Boardwalk Empire cases (some of the books and all of the objects are mine, including Iris' necklace ), so I got extra close closeups of those: Carnivale album and Boardwalk Empire Album.

hollylolly posted:Okay, so who's going to make a thread? I don't have time right now but if no one else does it or claims it by tonight I'll put one together. And anyone who wants to paint Outlander with the same "mommy porn" brush as, say, 50 Shades of Grey, is greatly misinformed and obviously isn't watching. Do it! I hated the book (and I read it twice, 15 years apart, for some reason), but this show is really entertaining.

Sorry to intrude on this anthropological event, but if any of you are fans of Mad Men, Deadwood, or costume design in general and live near Wilmington, DE, Janie Bryant is going to give a talk on designing costumes for those two shows at Winterthur on Nov. 18. I'm definitely going. Her work is incredible!

DivisionPost posted:As I've said, the whole concept of "Let's pretend we're a gay couple in a progressive school in order to become popular" gets tossed after the first season. The ruse is completely revealed, like, four episodes into the second season, and the public blowback gets maybe half an episode because everyone who matters has already reacted. This is literally a case of the showrunner wanting to dispose of a problematic concept -- one he didn't necessarily have a whole lot to do with (Carter Covington was a hired gun who replaced the original creators of the show) as quickly and artfully as he could manage. What was the original premise replaced with? Is it that one of the girls really is gay and is in love with her straight best friend?

That's one of the things I appreciated the most about The Fall. Jamie Dornan is a handsome man, but the show never made his character sexy nor did it portray his scenes of violence in a sexually appealing way. And even though the audience spends half of the time following him as he goes about his day, I never felt like I was rooting for him or that the show wanted me to root for him even a little bit. He held my interest because he is interesting, but I want Stella to find him and end him.
