All I can tell you is that I tried watching the pilot right when the CTE news was really heating up a few years back and it made it basically unwatchable. Even taking that out it was scattershot at best. Maybe it picks up after the first ep? Like you I've had it endlessly breathlessly recommended to me (except for season 2 which everyone pretends didn't happen) so maybe I was expecting too much.

It's below a 1.0 which is pretty much ABC these days, but it has yet to be cancelled and remains a massively expensive debacle. They're probably airing the rest because Summer but there's no way it's getting a second season. It's funny because the show is entirely driven by social media and having the show's app to vote, but then you see something like this from one of the judges:

Keep in mind that Ludacris has 9.5 million followers, several of whom probably retweet any drat thing he says.

The way this season is going I am not even joking about having no idea. Premiere numbers matching last seasons' finales without any bump at all has become the norm, Utopia is still on the air, anything and everything is down a half to a whole point... honestly until the first round of cancellations for each network comes through I won't be able to calibrate my expectations. It's that strange.

Why don't they just say viewers instead of making some arbitrary metric?

It isn't arbitrary. 18-49 spends all the money and it's the only group networks care about, and traditionally they've only cared about them watching live to see ads. That may be changing. I don't know. But 18-49 remains the only metric they give a poo poo about at all.

Nah it's just gonna get canceled shortly after MLS and A to Z (which is too bad because the A-Z pilot was pretty sweet). Fox is having a horrific season for debut series not dissimilar to ABC last year (one standout-ish new performer among a bounty of debacles) so they're probably giving it a lot of rope - but a 1.0 debut is DOA.

So far, absolutely yes. It's early in the run, you've got time. Also that bad acting makes more sense as the season goes on, if you can believe it. If anything my concern about the show is that it won't be able to sustain its premise beyond one season but it's working fantastically. Also if you haven't seen the first ep you're missing the best pilot since Mad Men.

It started off kind of charming but as the series has gone on it's become increasingly mediocre. The leads don't really have any chemistry with each other and Betty White gets all the money lines so there isn't much left for the rest. Their recent animated episode is possibly the single unfunniest installment of a comedy I've ever seen. It's probably going to run until TV Land gets out of the business of original series, and it's started showing up in syndication. If you watch any one episode after the first season, you've watched them all.

this is the same guy who ten years ago was a washed-up alcoholic former comedian whose biggest success was co-hosting a lovely mtv dating show

hate hardwick all you want, and i'm often p cool on him, but his sheer business success is ridiculous and he earned his hosting gigs

This guy gets it. The amount of material that Hardwick puts out is astonishing, and comedians (and their writers) can't always make every joke land.
