Ruth Negga who plays Tulip in Preacher is also the voice of the Emerald Herald in Dark Souls 2. She suppressed her Irish accent in Preacher but you can absolutely hear it in the Herald’s dialogue. Going back and listening to the Herald’s dialogue gave me chills. She owns.

That is until you realize that any set of stairs in the game has a wheelchair lift available. Just a neat nod that the environment designer put some thought into things.

Little thing 2: You don’t just open chests you find lying around, you yeet dodgeballs at them to pop them open of course.

The climbing poo poo in horizon zero Dawn is easily the worst part of the game. It requires no skill. The only challenge lies in finding what surfaces you can actually climb. It’s clunky as hell and I have fallen through the floor and had to restore saves 3x now.

Why even bother? Also the slo-mo jump thing was neat the first time it happened but by late game, please just stop

I dunno but the “run around this structure 5x before you figure out where the handholds are” OR “we highlight everything yellow to tell you where to climb” (but oddly never both) just gets old. It’s especially bad in the DLC where you can’t use your focus to scan for collectibles and they are like, super camouflaged.

Climbing done right? Only game I can think of where that is a core mechanic and was done well was Shadow of the Colossus.

But man, i need to go talk to Persephone again.

And yeah, of course a cthonic god on an orphic quest can't escape the underworld permanently. :( in retrospect, not a surprise.

Also my dad is such a dick.

I beat the final boss for the first time yesterday with aegis/aspect of chaos and the ares special doom buff along with a bunch of the Artemis + crit perks. As if that wasn’t enough, I also got the legendary perk that makes the Ares call do incremental damage on consecutive hits from Charon’s shop in Styx. It ate half his 2nd form’s health bar in one use lol.

I think it’s kinda cool that bosses will react to what you’re doing situationally. Like the final boss will shield himself and summon minions if you damage him too fast. Also occasionally if you use a call ability on him, he’ll say “how dare you drag the olympians into this” and throw up an invulnerable shield.

Now I have to go back and beat it again but I’m not looking forward to it since the only weapons I like are the shield and the spear and I have no more titan blood to upgrade the others.

Edit: also I’m kinda annoyed that the achievements for this game are hosed just like Returnal. Some of them unlock fine, some refuse to no matter what (catching fish from each region, killing the skeleton guy 15 times)

Yeah Styx is close to free, it's Elysium that can be a huge bitch. The only thing dangerous in Styx is poison spam being annoying as poo poo when you have low damage to bosses.

Elysium especially when you start turning the heat up and suddenly everything there has healthbars 2x normal size + armor. Those loving archer swarms are the absolute worst. I have found very few builds which can dish out the necessary damage to deal with +10 heat in there. The machine gun/grenade launcher thing works well. If you can swing the rocket launcher upgrade and triple shot with it, it's pretty much easy mode assuming you can get a couple Chaos/Artemis power-ups to boost the damage a bit.

I have rarely had issues with Styx unless you get super unlucky and have to do all 5-6 chambers. Plus you get a heal at the end without having to fight the boss and a ton of cash for last-minute upgrades.

quote:

there's never a god that I'm disappointed to encounter

Aphrodite's stuff is pretty weak except for her insane call ability that does a metric fuckton of damage along with a 7 second charm that actually works on some bosses

Also don't sleep on turning up the heat especially the "extreme measures" thing that remixes the boss fights. The Elysium fight is particularly hilarious:
Theseus gets a horseless chariot, gold armor and dual wields motherfucking machine guns. He spends the fight racing around the arena cackling like a madman. Funny as hell

Yeah, I figured out pretty quickly that trying to melee the final boss was a risky strategy at best. He has very few windows where you can get in, hit him and dodge away. His swing arcs are incredibly wide, especially in his 2nd phase so if you don’t have some sort of mobility upgrade from Hermes, one screw up will cost you quite a bit.

I usually use something like a spell or ranged attacks while constantly running away to whittle down his health and take melee shots only when I’m sure it’s safe.

I think that’s the main reason I hate the sword weapon. You can have a fantastic melee build that will get you all the way to the final boss and he’ll just wreck you since he’s immune to knock back and hit stun. The only way I was able to ever beat him with the sword was to use aspect of Poseidon and go full caster build which is incredibly luck-dependent in the early game - because you aren’t getting through Elysium with a cast build unless you’re really racking up damage - and the set of boons you need are fairly specific (exit wounds, casting speed, one of the bigger “nuke” spells etc). I haven’t tried out excalibur yet but it looks kinda promising.

Speaking of which, I’ve unlocked most of the hidden weapon aspects except for the machine gun and the fists. I have both upgraded to at least level 4 in one aspect with another at at least level 2 but haven’t had anyone give me the key phrase for either. Zeus and Artemis both commented on the gun but neither did anything with it. Am I doing something wrong or is it just one of those “keep playing and it’ll eventually happen” things?

Edit: also if you’re having trouble with the final boss, Eurydice’s keepsake is incredibly useful for both learning his attack patterns and staying alive. I usually run Persephone’s for the first 3 levels and then switch to Eurydice for Styx.

Ah to the Bull? I didn’t know that. I actually did that last night but he had his new fancy armor on so we talked about that instead. Oh well.

One of the things I love about these sorts of games is that everyone develops their own strategies for dealing with challenges. There’s no right or wrong way to go about it as long as you win in the end. Always fun to hear other people’s impressions.

Theseus can be a pain - it totally depends on what god he calls. Some are just horrific (Zeus, Dionysus). Others not so bad.

I just had the funniest run ive had so far. I got the crystal beam Demeter cast early on and then like, every single boon to buff it somehow:

Chaos +cast damage
Crystal Beam
Glacial Glare
Pressure Points
Battle Rage
Deadly Flourish (barely used lol)
Greatest Reflex
Hunters Mark
Demeter's Aid - which builds CRAZY fast with the doom beams active
Drunken Dash
Strong Drink
Crystal Clarity (duo that makes the beams hit harder and last longer)
Urge to Kill
Positive Outlook
Arctic Blast
Flurry Cast
Cruel Thrust and Double Nova (barely used again)

I’d just walk into a room, drop all 3 death laser turrets and everything would instantly melt. I didn’t actually have to do anything else. Theseus and the bull melted almost instantly. Theseus took a little more time due to his shield but it was still a joke. Hades went down without even touching my acorn.

Aspect of Poseidon/sword. Hilariously, I knew the build I was going for but asphodel was rough because of a +60% enemy spawn chaos thing and I lost 2 respawns. Shortly after, I got the laser tracking thing and it was all over.

Edit: wow ok the Lucifer aspect is super disappointing. I turned the difficulty way down to just run buck wild with it and it’s so slow and lovely I just got fed up and let myself die in Styx.

Double Edit: Also just FYI - you don't have to be wielding the weapon to get the unlocking phrase from Zeus. I was using the fists and he gave it to me anyway.

All of the gods apparently say something unique when you try and use their own call against them. Dionysus said,” Seriously bro?”. I want to see the others too but it’s such a specific set of circumstances you have to set up in order to make it happen.

The amount of unique dialog in this game is astounding. Seriously, I have no idea how many “Zagreus dies” narrations there are after he escapes, but I have yet to hear a repeat.

Also little stuff like - if you happen to fight Tisiphone a LARGE number of times, she starts attempting (and failing) to say your name rather than just screaming “MURDER!” over and over.
