There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I have a better idea for my TOXX.

One Season Wonders!-How about I watch four TV shows that only lasted one season?

Starhunter (Found this in the check out line at Shop Rite, haven't watched it)
Birds Of Prey (I've seen the first few episodes, never finished it)
Season 1 of Wonder Woman (Season one takes place during WW2, 2 and 3 take place in the 1970s and on a different network so I think this could count. I've only seen the pilot movie so far)
Blade: The Series (I have seen this before)

What do you guys think?

I'm six episodes into Orange is the new Black. I was kind of expecting something a couple of levels below OZ. I didn't realize it would be actually pretty funny. And sometimes :unsmith:.

Edit: Also, do we need the sappy music every time Diaz and Bennet are on screen together?

Started season 2 of Orange is the new Black. Like I said before I expected something just a few levels below Oz. I think it's getting there. :ohdear:

Edit: Ok, Bullshit.

There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I just finished Orange Is The New Black. Holy poo poo, if you have Netflix and have not seen it then go see it now.

Our "Lead" is Piper Chapman, a rich white girl who is sentenced to fifteen months at a minimum security federal prison for trafficking drug money ten years prior. I say "Lead" because by the end of the second season her part is small in the whole of the show. The second half of the second season is more focused on the feud between Red and Vee over control of the prison contraband market, The politics of the prison management, the lives of the other inmates before their time in prison, the lives of the guards and a bunch of other subplots. Piper herself is pleasant at first rich woman who slowly turns into this monster who clearly only cares about herself and NEEDS someone to cling to. "I'm scared that I'm not myself in here and I'm scared that I am" sums her up perfectly. As great as a character she is the show is really helped by having others take the spotlight.

My standout favorite is Nichols. She just seems like it would be fun to follow around for a day. Which is a shame because she does become more of a bit player towards the end. Although the ending of season 2 gives me hope she will take more of a bigger role in 3.

The skeeviest character by far is Sam Healy. The prison counselor who is at first nice to Piper because of her situation, but as time goes on he is revealed to be this sad sack MRA with a Russian mail order bride. He starts to almost see Piper as his waifu until he finds out she's having a relationship with another inmate. Not only does he lock her in solitary for it, he sees Piper about to be attacked by another inmate and does nothing to stop it. In the second season his hatred of women is kind of explored deeper but they also try to have him actually care about the other inmates again. This is someone who has DEEP issues with women, especially lesbians, to the point where him working at a woman's prison may not be a good thing for his mental health. They do try to give him some kind of redemption towards the end but it feels forced to me. Screw the "I do care" poo poo, you were about to let an innocent woman go down for attempted murder because you were depressed Pennsatucky didn't come to your group therapy session. Who by the way is becoming your new waifu since Piper rejected you Just gently caress you dude.

One of the other guards goes by the name "Pornstache" Mendez. He smuggles drugs into the prison for sexual favors from the inmates, treats them like poo poo, acts WAY to inappropriately towards them and is an all around dick. Plus he views himself as the prisoner's gift of machismo from god. He is more likable than Healy. I'm actually a little sad, according to wikipedia he isn't in season 3

One of the biggest things that surprised me about the series is how funny and heartwarming it can be. I never saw Oz but I thought it would be close to it. Dark, violent, depicting prison life as a living hell. The prison here is no paradise but this show has it's moments about how life goes on here. Plus we get plots about chasing a chicken that somehow got into the prison grounds, a woman who believes she has become a faith healer, a contest for who can seduce the most women. The show does have it's dark, :ohdear: moments though.

If you haven't seen it, watch it. We got a great cast all around.

Up next I got Hemlock Grove, which I am looking forward to. I am a sucker for the modern horror, World of Darkness, pretty monster genre. Then House of cards. Is it odd that I'm not really looking forward to it?

I'm finally getting off my rear end and am watching Hemlock Grove. I am a sucker for the kind of Vampire, World of Darkness, Urban horror genre. It's dumb, trashy and I should of gotten over it in High School and College but just like anime I keep coming back.

I'm only two episodes in and so far it feels like it REALLY wan't to be American Horror Story in the sense that it is taking a half a dozen plot points, tossing them at the wall and hoping for the best. But it doesn't realize that AHS works when it goes balls to the wall insane. Hemlock Grove on the other hand is trying for more serious, toned down high school drama. Hopefully, with the Girl getting pregnant with an Angel, Vampire family, Gypsy werewolfs, a girl who is some kind of mutant and a obvious mad scientist, it does reach AHS levels of crazy and doesn't just rely on pretty good gore effects.

Just finished Season one of Hemlock Grove. gently caress THIS SHOW!

There is a podcast called We Hate Movies that did an episode of The Butterfly Effect. Everything they mention something hosed up happens their response is "DUDE! That is hosed up! :350: We're really saying something man!" That's the whole show. Just moment after moment of actually good gore effects and hosed up things happening. Plus it throws Vampires at us in the final episode like we didn't see it coming since episode 1.

gently caress, there's a second season to this. Why did I agree to this!

It's over...I finished Hemlock Grove.

Hemlock Grove is an experiment by Eli Roth. His hypothesis is as follows: I can make an audience watch a show about pretty white people problems where nothing happens if eighty percent of the budget is poured into gore and special effects. Season one of the show is about a crazed werewolf killing high school girls in town *because they dared express sexuality. Season two is about a cult killing families, trying to find a baby that will destroy the world. This is all REALLY secondary to the relationship issues of The Godfrey Family, some mad scientists, and our rich protagonist's one gypsy-werewolf friend. Very little actual story progresses from episode to episode and entire plot lines that, if this was made for TV instead of Netflix, would dedicate one maybe two episodes to are stretched across four or five episodes. Characters are introduced that only serve to effect the plot ONCE and then are killed off some time later or never effect the plot at all and get killed off.

For example we have a Russian scientist who is wanted for war crimes in Europe. She, for some reason, convinces Mama Godfrey to let her kill her son, Roman, because he is getting gene therapy so he can no longer be a vampire. We never learn WHY she would get involved or what she would get out of it. Why? Because before she can kill him, Roman kills her. Her only purpose in the plot is to make a serum that could kill a vampire (Which never gets used) and to give Mama Godfrey the idea to eat the other mad scientist's artificially grown human. Their also TONS of scenes in this show that are there either to give us more gore effects or to just pad the run time. You could edit season two down from ten episodes to maybe six.

The worst thing of all about this show? Towards the end there were some REALLY good ideas in this. A vampire that suddenly becomes human has to come to terms with their mortality and all the horrible poo poo they did in their lives? HELL YES! A girl with a deformed body is given a new one? But the new body will simply have a copy of her brain and the original will be put down? Plus giving us moments where the new body and the original interact with each other and wonder if this is such a good idea? HELL YES! But all of the best stuff from both seasons are saved for the final few episodes and it feels like it's to little to late. Plus you introduce new poo poo like flying lizard people (Yes, flying lizard people) To get me to watch Season three.

gently caress This Show. If I had a review show I would be ending this by beating up a cardboard cutout of Edward Cullen recolored to be Roman Godfrey. I still got House of Cards to go. I'll start it tomorrow.

*I do wan't to write a longer review of this show when my TOXX is done. One subject is going to be two characters who are WAY overly sexualized high school freshmen.

There's no one I'd rather be than me.

House of Cards is a drama series about veteran southern Democratic Congressman Frank Underwood. The series starts with him being tapped to be Secretary of State by the newly elected President, Garrett Walker. However he is then told that he won't be the Secretary of State because the President believes Underwood will be best used as the majority whip in congress. Underwood then proceeds to destroy the Walker administration through sheer ruthless politicking. Frank Underwood is one of the latest of anti-heros to come to TV. He's a vile, ruthless man who is willing to trample anyone to get what he want's and god help you if you stand in his way. What sets him apart from someone like Walter White is that he is someone who's morals and ethics were cast aside long ago. Along side him is his wife Clare who is just as cold and ruthless as he is. It is kind of amazing to watch them work because they obviously love each other and encourage each other to do what they need to. The best scenes tend to be when Frank and Claire are relaxing, sharing a cigarette with each other. They don't hide anything for each other and are totally honest and clearly love each other. We also do get rare moments of humanity from Frank like when he visits his Alma mater, spends time with his friends from school and says that he misses his best friend.

Seriously, if you love political drama then you need to see. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are amazing and worth the binge watch through. This isn't as long because I could gush about this show all day and there was little I didn't like. There was only one scene in the whole show that made me think "Wait, what the gently caress is happening?" :psyduck:. But other than that, no complaints. It's odd, I think after Hemlock Grove I almost forgot what a moving plot and likable characters felt like.

That said, I am never doing a toxx like this again. Towards the end of this this wasn't all that fun and I was forcing myself to watch this show rather than go at my own pace.

:toxx: Complete! WE OUT BITCHES!
