Any news about AC/DC is pretty depressing nowadays so it's quite appropriate that the thread is too.

I mean let’s be honest, they’re pretty much done. But at least they had one of the most consistent runs in rock n roll.

Well this certainly makes me feel better about Angus stubbornly refusing to throw in the towel I guess Brian just decided to say "gently caress my eardrums, I don't need to hear anyways"

That's what I figured after thinking about it for a while I never did get to see the band with Axl, but I was opposed to the idea, mostly because it seemed like they hosed Brian over pretty badly. I dunno how I feel about album singer/touring singer, but I'll still buy the album the day it comes out, of course

Solid recent interview with Chris Slade. One especially neat bit:quote:I’d been doing demos with the guys in London; Angus, Malcolm, and myself. Mal was playing bass, and Angus was playing rhythm – no lead guitar, just rhythm guitar, which seems very strange, because Malcolm, being one of the greatest rhythm guitarists ever. But he played bass in these sessions, and that went on for weeks, and they were writing as they were going along as well. I thought; “Well, the guys are in the studio and I wouldn’t mind playing drums”, and I put that to them, and they said; “Yeah, come along”, so that’s what I did, again, for weeks and weeks. I’m terrible with titles, but it was for the next album that came out [1995’s ‘Ballbreaker’], and I demoed every track for that album. https://www.eonmusic.co.uk/chris-slade-acdc-eonmusic-interview-october-2018.html P.S. Sorry for the lack of actual news, folks. AC/DC is very good ( too good, actually... -_- ) at avoiding the spotlight. Synthetic Hermit fucked around with this message at 03:08 on Dec 4, 2018 |

Eh, the duck walk was a Chuck Berry thing long before Angus, and the song sounds like any generic AC/DC sounding song. Maybe it is a new official song, but if it really is, I’m not impressed at all.

FWIW, a promo clip for this year's Grammys was shown during the Super Bowl, and it used two brief clips from AC/DC's 2015 performance. https://twitter.com/MendesCrewMedia/status/1092227726063423489 They aren't listed as performing (nor are there any rumours for it), but Brian was in L.A. recently (where Terrorizer met him)... This popped up in my news feed today. Alan Niven (former manager of Great White and Guns 'N Roses) speculated on a recent podcast that Brian may not be able to tour with the band due to his hearing condition. More importantly, Eddie Trunk had this to say: quote:So I have a source that will remain nameless but a very, very, well-placed, reliable source regarding AC/DC who I did run into and ask about AC/DC. This source told me to his knowledge that album is done, that they went to that studio in Canada, made this record and what people speculated on, meaning these were riffs, ideas and more of a tribute to Malcolm Young is true. Meaning that Malcolm had a bunch of stuff recorded that they worked off of and they sort of incorporated the record. So, this is sort of a unity thing to come together, put out some of Malcolm’s music and celebrate AC/DC.“ They've been though a lot. Malcolm passed away, Cliff retired, and Brian potentially can't tour anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if they did this one last album as a tribute to Malcolm and the fans and hung it up. They've had one hell of a ride. It's all up to Angus at the end of the day, though.

Those are variations of the same vague rumours that have been going around since the studio photos. I honestly don't put much value in AC/DC rumours. Nobody predicted Phil's return, just as nobody predicted Chris Slade rejoining. Most big name music artists, we know what time they go to the bathroom. AC/DC is like the NSA, except we don't have a Snowden.

The AC/DC Facebook page has suddenly come to life, celebrating Highway to Hell’s 40th. Tour imminent?? I’m also going to take this opportunity to say that after having lost my copy years back I recently reacquired Stiff Upper Lip and it’s low key one of their best later day albums.

# ? Jul 16, 2019 20:47 |

Stiff Upper Lip is definitely one of their better ones. I like it better than anything else released past Live or The Razors Edge (though I think I like Razor's Edge a little better). Rumors have been swirling that because they updated their YouTube channel and such that THEY'RE GOING TO ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES ANY DAY NOW GUYS OMG but we'll see what happens within the next week. I have to go if they do. I went on the last two tours and I'm not missing this one.

I have quite a lot of love for most of the Brian Johnson led albums. Besides the obvious ones and Razors Edge like you mentioned, Flick of the Switch is one of their best, and I quite like Ballbreaker and Rock or Bust. Black Ice was awesome when it came out because of the tour and the general AC/DC renaissance associated with it, but I think I prefer what came before and after it in terms of solid albums.

If I had to rank the Brian Johnson studio albums, it would be something like:
Not saying the ones near the bottom are "bad" either. If Live was included, it would be near the top. I could swap Blow Up Your Video and Stuff Upper Lip back and forth depending on the day. The newer albums probably just need a little more time to grow on me but they haven't had the staying power the other ones have had obviously.

Not sure I could go about ranking them, but I know Fly on the Wall would be at the bottom for me. Not a fan of most of the songs, or the production on that particular album. I like the song Danger, though. I'm also in agreement that Blow Up Your Video is better than most people give it credit for.
