I can't remember a more active deadline in recent memory. The next 90 minutes are going to be awesome. There have been far too many years where "journeyman middle reliever traded for 4th outfielder" is the biggest trade of deadline day.

Unless the Cardinals make another good trade. Then gently caress this entire day in the ear.

This is a great trade for the Cardinals, and I hate it.

Allen Craig and Joe Kelly were my 2 favorite Cardinals.

gently caress you, Matheny, for blocking Taveras; I wonder if Mozeliak would've kept him around hoping for a bounce-back if not for Matheny's stubborn bullshit.

Joe Kelly is a fun dude who makes me laugh and has good opinions on videogames. There are no obviously fun dudes on the Cards anymore :(

That's a great deal for the Nats. They're arguably better than a week ago when the infield was Zim/Desmond/Rendon/LaRoche even after Zimmerman's hamstring death.

Having a decent pitcher like Lackey under team control for $500,000 is a great boon to the Rays. Provided he doesn't "retire"

that fact that the Sox traded him for that return tells me that they think there is a good chance he will try to retire/hold out

Yeah, I think it would be more beneficial to them to try to get something from him before any shenanigans occur. Having a 36 year old pitcher (next season) isn't always the best idea, regardless of the price, either. It might be better for them to get some sort of cost-controlled player(s) out of him instead.

I do have an idea. They're not moving anyone. THey're not moving a single loving person, because Ruben Amaro hosed up with lovely stupid contracts that no team wants.

But don't worry, he won't be fired, so the rest of the league doesn't have to worry about trading with the Phillies in 2015 either

Maybe he just didn't want to stick around in Boston and would have rather retired than play there for the minimum.
