Does anyone watch the Ustream shows on their iPad? I always used to hook up my iPad to my TV to watch the New Japan shows, but the first G-1 show is giving me a "video not available on this device" error.

I'm still amazed at how smooth that Styles Clash > Tombstone counter went. What a great spot.

Also there were fighting spirit no sell spots in each of the last three matches and people still want to act like that isn't overdone.

Finally finished watching Night 1. Some thoughts:

- Loved the intro with all the guys training and Naito randomly diving after line drives, apropos of nothing.

- Ishii/Fale was a really good giant v. midget match, but man, it's getting tougher and tougher to watch those ridiculous battering ram headbutts. A lot of guys in New Japan do them but Ishii's are so much more :gonk: for some reason.

- A good Tenzan match appears! That match was about 5x better than I expected. Early in the tournament, I guess we get the best out of guys because they haven't spent the past week straight getting their rear end kicked.

- Some nice surprises with the Tenzan and Yano results. Mixing things up helps.

- What the hell did Takahashi do to Naito on that slingshot suplex type move? Did he accidentally drop him right on his head?

- It might be because the last wrestling I watched before this was Battleground (I imagine this happened to a lot of people actually), but I thought all three of the main events were in the ****1/2 or better range. And Goto/Makabe and Nagata/Kojima were in the **** range. The dueling suplex over the top rope spot in Honma/Tanahashi was so well done. And in Okada/Styles, yes, the Styles Clash into the tombstone spot was awesome, but the high angle German suplex Okada used right after looked even cooler. I thought it was a good look for Okada to overcome the outside interference and win after the last two Styles matches.

- This was the best show I've seen this year. Other shows have had better single matches, but nothing has worked top-to-bottom like this show did. I'm going to have to start waking up to watch these live, because this tournament is shaping up to be so great.

p.s. Fighting spirit is great, fighting spirit forever.

Tomorrow's card is at 5 AM EDT.

quote:

NJPW, 7/23/14 (Samurai! TV/iPPV)
Aomori Prefectural Budokan

1. G1 Climax - Block A: Satoshi Kojima vs. Tomohiro Ishii
2. G1 Climax - Block A: Shelton Benjamin vs. Bad Luck Fale
3. G1 Climax - Block B: Hirooki Goto vs. Yujiro Takahashi
4. G1 Climax - Block B: Tetsuya Naito vs. Lance Archer
5. G1 Climax - Block A: Yuji Nagata vs. Tomoaki Honma
6. G1 Climax - Block A: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
7. G1 Climax - Block B: Toru Yano vs. AJ Styles
8. G1 Climax - Block B: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Kazuchika Okada
9. G1 Climax - Block B: Togi Makabe vs. Karl Anderson
10. G1 Climax - Block A: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Doc Gallows

This is probably the weakest card on paper but I'm sure it'll still have some decent matches. Doc Gallows in a singles main event is kinda weird. Hope Ishii/Kojima and Nagata/Honma get decent time since they have the potential to be very good.

I'm morbidly curious for the Yano vs. Styles match because I have no idea what that match is even going to look like, other than the finish.

Day 1 was good, Day 4, 7, 8, and 9 look to be good ones too. Based on the Arena's at least and match ups. Day 9 has a typo that says Kojima vs. Nagata, but it's Kojima vs. Nakamura. It was also announced that reDRagon vs. Time Splitters is for the IWGP Jr Tag titles and Adam Cole & Mike Bennett w/ Maria vs. Captain New Japan and Jushin Liger was announced.
