I’m old too, but no kids yet, and a much younger girlfriend, so I have not yet settled into old age. I did just buy a sports car though, so maybe I’m actually in my mid life crisis, despite still having my hair.

I can sneak this brag in because I am proud of it but didn't want to flaunt disposable income but since it's like 1/10th the price of your very pretty car, I can finally say it. I just bought myself a Gibson custom shop Les Paul for A Lot. Things are very cool to buy. I love things.

I get not wanting to flaunt disposable income, I usually feel the same way about talking about compensation in this thread. Congrats on your very cool toy! A really nice custom guitar is a special thing. I don’t really *care* about IT but I do like owning cool things, so that keeps me invested.

I’m not buying anything nice for at least ten years because I have two sons aged 3 or younger who will destroy everything. No nice cars, no nice furniture, why bother?

Mine are daughters, so everything they touch becomes sweeter and prettier. I keep the Les Paul in its case in the guest room, though. The rest of the guitars are on racks, but this one's more of a museum piece for me.

RFC2324 posted:I don't like other forums, those people are weirdos There is a way to set a static IPaddress on an ELB but typically the use case is for whitelisting on partner firewalls and that kind of thing. If all you are trying to do is register a name on it you’ll want to set up a CNAME on your registrar that points to the DNS name of the ELB. For more info see here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticloadbalancing/latest/classic/using-domain-names-with-elb.html#dns-associate-custom-elb But if you really need a static IP address on an ELB you will want to set up a Network Load Balancer [NLB] which allows one EIP per subnet to be affixed to a load balancer. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticloadbalancing/latest/network/introduction.html Agrikk fucked around with this message at 06:44 on Mar 4, 2018 |

Just get whoever controls the DNS to add NS records on subdomain.example.com to delegate it to your Route53 zone, then you can use alias records. Edit: I've misread this if you're wanting to do this on the bare domain, so ignore.

RFC2324 posted:Can you get a static ip on cloudfront for pointing A records at? I just want to host websites with https without going back to the days of requiring the www on the front. Again, if all you want is a website pointing at a resource, all you need is to set up CNAME aliases for your website that point to the CloudFront endpoint. Put your static content on S3. Generate dynamic content on Lambda or EC2. Create a new CloudFront endpoint and point its origin at your content. Then, either using route53 or your registrar, create DNS CNAME entries for https://mycompany.com and https://www.mycompany.com that point to the ARN of your CloudFront endpoint. Pro tip: when doing your initial DNS entries use the smallest TTL possible (usually 60 seconds). This will prevent your new records from caching across the internet which makes troubleshooting difficult. When you get everything set up properly, then and only then should you use longer TTLs (hours days or weeks).

I think the problem here is that you can't use a CNAME record for https://example.com - it has to be an A or a quad A The way to do this is to have the record for example.com in Route 53 be an alias type, pointing at the CloudFront distribution. But that's not possible if the zone isn't hosted with Route 53. Thanks Ants fucked around with this message at 18:25 on Mar 4, 2018 |

To clarify a bit further: You will want to avoid using static IP addresses and thinking that static IP addresses are necessary for cloud architecture. A static IP address anchors you to a single place on a network when in reality EC2 and Lambda and S3 and ELB and CloudFront are thousands if not millions of machines working together. Wherever possible you want to use the ARN of a resource (Amazon Resource Name) because it is a virtual construct that acts as a broker for the resource rather than anchoring to the resource itself.

I don't think it's possible outside of having a little EC2 web server doing a 301 redirect to https://www. (ewww), or paying a shitload of money for a dedicated IP - https://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/custom-ssl-domains/

Looking for someone somewhat versed with Avaya IP Office (I think Wolrah frequests this thread, maybe others as well). We just had it implemented (please laugh at our company for buying this piece of poo poo), it's been a shitshow so far and our call center stats are fukt. Really what I'm needing some info on is if there's a way to create a custom dashboard, there's the IPO System Status (or System State) and it's a dashboard that shows active calls, queued calls, status etc etc. Frankly it loving sucks and we'd like to be able to hook into the DB and pull that data and make our own pretty pictures, is there a way to do this?

Oh my loving god it's not a call centre solution. Edit: If you want to interface with it then look at https://www.devconnectprogram.com/site/global/products_resources/ip_office/releases/10_1/index.gsp. Click 'Downloads' then 'DevLink 3'. I have an SSO login somewhere so I can pull all of the documentation for you when I'm next in the office. Or maybe the registration lets you grab it without going through a load of bullshit, I have no idea.
