I don't understand why they can't just handle these things with a fade to black instead of inventing weird new plot devices. Then again, I don't really understand why the VN market apparently requires sex scenes in the first place.

Takeuchi is genuinely a pretty creepy guy. Edit: I just remembered that Servants lie outright in Apocrypha a couple times. Obviously Nasu didn't have that in mind when writing Archer's dialogue in Stay Night, but it still seems relevant.

There's a tendency to exaggerate about Shirou's characterization, yes. An example is people taking Ayako's line about Shirou never laughing at her jokes to mean that Shirou has no sense of humor whatsoever, which is simply not true.
