Definitely cool. It reminds me of a giant/creature from Mayan mythology (I always forget the name).

Oh jeez, they referenced the Invunche all the time in early Hellblazer and I assumed that was just something to be referred to but never shown. Thanks!

It's hard to tell, because you vaguely praise Snyder's run a paragraph earlier but are you saying to avoid the New 52 Constantine or the New 52 Swamp Thing? Because I agree that New 52 Constantine is really lame and it's a shame how badly they've watered him down but I hugely disagree with the idea of avoiding New 52 Swamp Thing which I honestly think is the best take on the character since Moore's run, better than Veitch and his successors by far and arguably better than the Morrison/Millar run too (the BKV and following runs are pretty poo poo). Charles Soule's run in particular is absolutely amazing and also consists of one of the best takes of John Constantine and really nails what a manipulative bastard he is. I know it's easy to overlook and disregard all New 52 titles for being New 52 but Swamp Thing is a drat good exception and Charles Soule adds a lot of new ideas to the whole nature of The Green. He also does a really good take on that subtle horror feel that Moore's run often had during the Whiskey Tree arc. This image is a pretty good summary of the main Swamp Thing recommended reading:

The ratings are not good, guys. Could just be because of Halloween, though so don't lose hope. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...-steady/322517/quote:Constantine garnered a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating, down 36 percent from a 1.4 for last week’s premiere.

I suppose right now people unfamiliar with the setting might feel like it's aping Supernatural a lot. There's the buddy angel bossing him around, and the big old map that looks like it'll keep him chasing across country to solve monster-of-the-week mysteries forever. Personally I wouldn't actually mind that, because Ryan does the job well and is entertaining to watch, but it might help if they introduced some larger common thread to tie the episodes together and give a more coherent large-scale storyline.

Hopefully if this gets renewed they just let him smoke because dancing around the subject like this is already pretty silly. I'm pretty sure at the start of last week's episode when he was first walking into town they had him smoking, just shot from behind so you couldn't actually see the cigarette in his mouth.

One area I feel the show could improve with would be to make it a little darker in tone. Like...not that there hasn't been some dark stuff and I'm not saying it needs to get so dark it would have to move to HBO, but my original intro to Constantine was his appearance in that early Sandman story where he has to take Morpheus to get the dream sand back from John's junkie ex. When they find her she's so hosed up on the sand that her house is like a decaying nightmare and she's practically a corpse. Ghost coal miners aren't really spooking me out. Edit: Oh poo poo, how about The Corinthian as a monster some day? That would be rad.

# ? Nov 3, 2014 17:32 |
If they aren't allowing John to smoke, there's no way they let his junkie friends be actual junkies. This being on network TV and not at least something like FX or AMC is going to end up making it so they simply can't do a lot of the things that made the comics special.

I was just fan-gushing so it's really surprising to me that others are like "wow that looks awesome" and not just " shut up no one cares," but then again Moore is considered one of the all-time greatest comics writers for drat good reasons and Swamp Thing was his American break-through.

They could do this kind of thing on network television, they just don't have the willingness to do it. Right now this show seems a bit lost. It's getting pulled in a bunch of different directions and isn't doing anything really well. I'm tuning in this week since the previous episode was essentially "Pilot, take 2", but I'm not holding out a lot of hope that this series is going to have the bite that Constantine needs. Right now it might as well be CSI: Ghost Division. Clamknuckle posted:Well Walrus you sold me on Swamp Thing. I've always been a Marvel guy but I've been meaning to get into some DC titles for years. I should have bought that instead of that issue of Superman...

One thing Supernatural should demonstrate, though: don't just do episodic procedural poo poo all season. Create an actual A-plot. Supernatural has already done every possible variation of a one-off whodunnit with demons and monsters. There's no uncharted territory left for Constantine to go on that front.

You should see the group of,surprisingly, Latin American people complaining about the lack of Keanu Reeves and asking if the series is a sequel.
