I've been playing on both for 13+ years. Over the past year I've put about $1000 into upgrading my PC, and I'll be getting a PS4 pretty soon. I prefer the PC but a lot of good games are console exclusive. I don't get people who pick one or the other, unless you can't afford a good computer.

I use a second monitor for non-gaming stuff. Gaming? Just use the primary monitor. Earlier this year I spent $1100 on a PC, getting an i5 (you don't need an i7 for gaming), a GTX760 (so far I haven't had any issues with slowdowns in games) 8GB of RAM, and a 250GB SSHD. That's really all you need to spend.

i only game with one monitor, but having two is great for when i'm trying to work or write if i had a choice, i'd rather play most games on my wii U but between lovely bundles and steam sales, and exclusives i game on PC a lot more But Rocks Hurt Head fucked around with this message at 17:50 on Nov 6, 2014 |

Well nowadays consoles are just low grade PCs anyway so the only deal draw card is exclusive titlesLumpy the Cook posted:I mostly play on the PC now. I got a PS4 when Destiny came out and I burnt out on that game insanely fast and I have nothing else to play for it but PS+ games. Thankfully the new Binding of Isaac is one of them now so I'll actually have something to do after I hook the PS4 back up.

i'm more or less exclusively a PC gamer, but i don't believe console gaming is wrong or bad. the point is not how you game, but that you game.

I'm a PC and Nintendo gamer. Xbox and Playstation seem kinda redundant when the majority of their games are also available on PC, and you're kinda forced to buy Nintendo consoles if you want to play Nintendo games. With a PC and a Wii U, I basically have the best of both worlds.

The last console I bought was a Wii and entirely for Skyward Sword with the gold Wiimote. Almost every game I want to play comes to Steam and with better specs, so I haven't had a reason to get another console. This does not include the DS lines as consoles because those are on a pedestal of their own of which there is no comparison.

Knuc U Kinte posted:On PC, you memorise your current specs (not easy for most people - I used to build computers and I have absolutely no idea how fast the rig my cousin is giving me will be) so you can figure out how many of the superior features you'll actually be able to use. You research if it has restrictive / borderline malware DRM it wants to install, or yet another Origin / Uplay client it needs you to install. Eventually you get the game home (or wait for it to finish downloading) and then go make yourself a coffee while it installs. Maybe multitask and find out if you need to update or roll back your drivers to get it to work. Then when it's done installing and patching, you spend the first hour or so quitting back to the menu and fiddling with the graphics settings until you've reached an acceptable trade-off between graphics and speed. Finally, when all that is done, you can play the game, trying to ignore the hitching as some OS process keeps starting itself in the background. In the bedroom or the office on a small monitor. I don't understand why so many think researching/upgrading PC specs is necessary. I just drop approx 1.5k on a new pre-built PC every 5 years or so and don't worry about the details because I have a job. Saving some money by building a PC and hounding out individual upgrade components for a computer yourself isn't worth the hassle if you're not the breed of dork that enjoys min/maxing your IRL. The fact that PC games are free makes it worth the ten minutes you spend googling workarounds for the occasional tech issue in my opinion.

The fact that PC games are free makes it worth the ten minutes you spend googling workarounds for the occasional tech issue in my opinion. The reason I don't buy series of pre-builts is because different parts need upgrades at different rates. Buying an entirely new computer every time I upgrade my video card or whatever would basically double or more how much I pay. I'm still using a processor and motherboard I got in 2008, but I have upgraded my video card about every other year. It's actually about time right now and I'm looking to maybe get a GTX 970 in the near future. If you don't want to do that then ok, but it can save you an average of several hundred per year if you mostly just want a fairly recent video card for heavy game rendering duties. E: Not to mention that you STILL essentially have to make the parts choices even with pre-builts. Kylra fucked around with this message at 21:26 on Nov 6, 2014 |
