I liked it fine overall, but my early thoughts are that "keep it 100" is a real waste of time to do with the panel every night, but if it becomes like the moment of zen that could totally work.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I think I was expecting him to at least not be terrified of saying something the vets on the panel might not agree with.

After the anti-vax episode I'm wondering if this is just going to be his MO. Have someone with bad opinions in the front left seat and refuse to call them out.

I get that his is a new show and that eviscerating the opposing opinion could make it hard to get them on the show but come on. The big fluffy kid gloves he's handling them with only get even more starkly apparent when keepin' it 100 is blatantly not keeping it 100 with bullshit softball questions to the one panelist.

I don't see the problem, at least someone saying they voted for Obama because he's a republican are being both honest with themselves and with what Obama really is. This "keep it 100" stuff just feels so forced and dumb, especially the last episode where it was involved in pretty much everything he talked about the whole episode. Is this some new college thing or is he honestly trying to make this a new thing?

I'll probably stop watching too, the episodes are just not that good so far. The obesity episode on monday sounds interesting though, I'll watch that. They definitely need to retool some things, hope they realize that and do it.

As I said very early on, and it's still early on, the keep it 100 poo poo is terrible as a nightly thing, and could maybe work as a The Word type thing, but TNS keeps doubling down on it. I really hope someone steps in and talks some sense, because I'm very close to turning off TNS after the panel like I do/did with TDS and Colbert for the interview most of the time.

I'm starting to come around to thinking the panels need more time.

Maybe three days a week they could change it to a proto-daily show style opening bit like we got tonight for our first segment; and then an issues discussion with someone of interest to Larry about the topic; then for Thursday we could have a full episode of four person panel.

Or scrap keep it 100, which continues to be a total waste of time.

Nothing changes about the format, no. Barney Frank was pretty good on the panel. He also seemed very annoyed at the panel format.

I don't want to defend Nightly's problems too much, but Colbert has entrenched the feeling that I want a little bit more after The Daily Show, and Nightly still does exactly that, without feeling like a network Late Night show. The problem is it doesn't do too much more. (And I'm not worrying about Stewart leaving TDS yet.)

I'll repeat that if they want to do a panel, it should probably just be the full episode and maybe only once a week; with the rest of week having a format closer to Stewart and Colbert. It won't solve Larry's lacking presence and bite; but it'd still be a "good enough" program for "a little more" after TDS. Without Stewart, I'll be even less likely to watch Nightly, even if the show improves a bit. I'm not sure if Nightly will even last until Stewart's run on TDS ends.

Barney was straight up saying "I thought I was here to sell my book."
