Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Release Date: March 17, 2015 Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U I made a thread way back in October of 2011 for this game, and over 50 of you also signed up to be apart of the alpha/beta testing. Project CARS is finally very close to being finished with a set in stone release date now of March 14, 2015. This sim went from only a handful of cars and tracks, with the tracks not even being anything more then just road with literally no landscape around it, to being a very beautiful looking racing sim. The driving model has also become amazing and is very realistic. You'll get a few iRacing or rFactor dorks that think it's literally Mario Kart, but they stick to their one game only and so they don't really care or matter. Important details: 32 car grids, day/night and weather cycles, huge single player with different racing leagues. There will be DLC cars, I don't know about tracks though. The PlayStation 4 version is 1080p and 60FPS while being a special effect setting or two lower (shadows and reflections don't look as good and you'll only notice it if you are looking for it and doing side by side comparisons) then PC ultra settings. Slightly Mad Studio's has achieved some real amazing technical magic here in order to make that work I am a senior member on the PC beta test, so I can try to answer any questions about the game. I get access to weekly builds and will have the PS4 version once it launches. Wow. I just looked in my gmail for my receipt for buying in to the beta, and tomorrow it will have been 3 years ago. February 7, 2102. This sim has gone through such an evolution it's shocking. It'll only be a matter of time before I break down and buy it on both PS4 and PC.

I don't think you'll have to pay money for one of the platforms. At the very least you get a nice discount.

Most of my experience with driving simulators comes from Gran Turismo 4-6, so I'm looking forward to getting this for my next-gen racing fix. I said come in, you probably know a lot about how this game differs from the Gran Turismo series, so if there's anything you think is worth pointing out then I'd like to hear it. It's coming out in Australia on Thursday 19th March, and in Europe on Friday 20th March, which is also when Final Fantasy Type-0 and the FFXV demo come out. The Wii U and SteamOS versions will be coming later. Some other interesting things about the game are the fully customisable HUD, which would have been really handy in DriveClub since I prefer to have the map on the left side of the screen, not all the way in the bottom-left. I think it also supports day/night and weather on every track, compared to GT5/6 where only some of them did. The number of cars per track is also only limited by the space available on the starting grid, and on the PS4 version you can hear your team members (one of them voiced by a former Stig) through the controller's speaker. Can you customise liveries like in the Forza games? In DriveClub you can unlock patterns, which let you choose the four colours and the type of paint each one uses (metallic, matte mettalic, matte, and glossy), but you can't really create your own patterns.

I remember getting into the beta years ago and then picking it back up when I upgraded my PC. I'm absolutely blown away by it and every now and then I show pictures to my friends and they think it's real.

It was the cheapest buy in (junior?) at 10 EUR. I haven't looked at the forums in years and have no idea if i'm going to get a deal or not.

Does the PS4 still do that stupid bullshit thing where no third party controllers work on it yet? I've got an old logitech wheel and if it doesn't work on the PS4 version that's gonna be pretty loving stupid. Might as well get the PC version if that's the case.

I don't understand the 3rd party controller situation on PS4. :/ One of the things Sony took a huge step backwards on.

I'm looking forward to another decent racing game, that will help drive the current sims to get better. I'm not looking forward to my framerate, though... Running triple monitors with an i3 and Radeon 7750 will be rough for such a graphics-heavy game. How does it compare to rFactor 2 and Assetto Corsa in terms of framerate on decent/high settings?

AC has some seriously impressive ones, it would be cool to see stuff like the 787b in CARS.

On my i5 3870k / 660Ti, rfactor2 has always run like garbage. Assetto Corsa runs fine on relatively high, and a couple months ago last I tried pCars it ran decently at medium settings.

This Youtube channel has been doing gameplay videos of the PS4 version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=user?TeamVVV?videos They got special access to that version of the game. I asked Ian Bell if I could have the PS4 beta but he ignored me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l-vpULIXuQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac1nph_eLX4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdGOzm-cuus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaMkw8S7vDE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOPxwmXl7yY Their videos are a little obnoxious, it looks like they have to have certain content in it when showing off the PS4 version. There are hundreds of videos of the PC version out there too. Also, this video is the intro to the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgkyJtUw4F8

Backed at the full member tier and it is amazing how far this game has come. The physics are really dialed in now and the graphics are jaw dropping. Can't wait for the final version.

Thanks for making the thread, I've been searching the forums for a while for one, and was far too lazy to make it myself. Preordered on Steam about a month ago, can't hardly wait. I just wish they could come through with some JDM licenses, but I guess that is always a possibility with DLC if the game is successful enough. I'm hoping they put out a DLC with the La Sarthe no chicanes, and Old Spa so I can go fast and die like the old days in the Ford GT40. Also I hope there is some sort of mod that I can get that changes the track names to the correct ones, for the areas they couldn't buy the licenses for. Not sure if Nurburgring is still called Eifelwald in the game, for example.

Licensing issues are being sorted out. They just can't talk about it until the contracts are signed.

I really don't see a delay happening. Being able to first hand look at all of the features and actually be able to play the game right now, it is rock solid and ready to go.

Please tell me this feels nothing like Shift 1 or 2 and I'm sold. I've kept this off my radar solely based on how little trust I had in SMS since the recent games kinda felt like poo poo to actually play after I got so hyped up over the selection of tracks etc. I tend to be a controller player and the weird input lag/smoothing thing they had was just too drat annoying.

Linux Nazi posted:Is there going to be any kind of single-player career path like the GT games? Or is it more of a Sim sandbox thing like AC? There are a whole bunch of different racing series, and you pick the one you want to race in. Right now in the beta build you can pick any racing series you want right from the start, but I think there is going to be a progression system in there by release. I am not entirely sure, i've barely touched the single player other then time trials.

Purchased a Senior membership years ago, It's been amazing to see the Nurburgring go from being a track in the middle of an empty abyss to where it is now, then again, that goes for a vast majority of the tracks so yeah.

tell me a racing wheel for PC to buy

Depends on your budget. If you can grab a Logitech Driving Force GT for cheap, they're fantastic entry level. Logitech G27 goes for around $250 new and is the only real option at that price range, but it's a really good wheel. The DFGT wheel itself is good, but the pedals are a bit cheap, there's no clutch, and the stick shifter is sequential only and attached to the wheel base if that bothers you. The paddle shift things on the back of the wheel are more like controller triggers instead of proper paddles but you'll get used to it. I paid $80 for mine used and feel like it was a good deal though I don't think it's worth the asking price of like $200 new, just spend the extra $50 for the G27. For higher end stuff I've heard good things about Fanatec but they're expensive and with a waiting queue for manufacturing/ordering.
