beat the first tokyo xtreme racer (that's 首都高バトル for you weebs) for dreamcast. definitely not that great compared to the later ones but i'm dedicated to working my way through the series at this point

Dr. Yinz Ljubljana posted:original, FES or Reload? picked up Reload 2 days ago and i'm burning through it since it's my favorite one and the new visuals and activities are just so drat good. reload. only ever played portable back in probably 2012 so i'm a bit fuzzy on what's new and such but it's such a good loving remake. loving it! the only thing that's tripping me up is that a lot (if not all) of the vocals in the music are re-recorded and the slight differences in cadence and whatnot are tripping me up a bit. not bad per se but i've listened to the ost so much that it's all super noticeable to me. clearest example is iwatodai dorm where the pitched down sample cd rap vocals has been replaced with some new ones recorded for the game and like it's still an amazing song but i do wish they would've kept the vibe and pitched them down still an amazing remake of what's possibly my favorite game

like in the vast majority of cases it's not all that noticeable and i appreciate the higher fidelity and all that and for the ones that are really subtle like mass destruction im getting used to the new version and i'm fine with it. it's not like with super meat boy and such where they had to make entirely new songs or whatever. it's still the songs i love

RavenousScoot posted:I'm not big into rpgs especially when it comes to grinding, when I do play them they usually have nonstandard combat (superstar saga or undertale) or are just kinda off in general (lisa, OFF, earthbound (which I never finished)) it is pretty standard when it comes to the combat, but it does have a bit of a pokemon style twist to it which is fun. but i also never really hosed with that style of combat when i played it but the stories and the characters all managed to suck me in enough to overcome it. that said not gonna push someone to drop 70 bones on an experience they might not be into but at the very least it's worth emulating the original version to see how you get on with it

i just got done with the second full moon today btw and gently caress it's still sooooo good. just extremely solid additions and tweaks to an already loving incredible game. i had forgotten some of the details of storylines that i remember the broad strokes of so i got the emotional gut punch of the little girl telling you her dad hit her for the second time in my life.

i've gotta say that regarding the persona 3 reload version of the iwatodai dorm theme as i'm coming close to the time where i won't be hearing it anymore i think i prefer it over the original version. the drums are way better and while i still love the original sampled vocals and the way they're pitched down i love the lotus juice vocals and the whole "but we gon' chill today / let me rock the world tomorrow" just fits the whole tone perfectly now if only i could put the loving songs i paid for on my phone

picked up El Paso, Elsewhere on sale the other day and i'm loving it from the three levels i played before making dinner. an extremely solid horror themed max payne clone. i do mean max payne clone with adoration and the inspirations are worn on the sleeve. down to the philosophical musings asking you if you want to exit to desktop or not. highly recommend checking it out
